That's probably how it is for the general public. When I see clips of the Stones reunion with Mick Taylor it's hard to imagine he would've stayed with them all that time, the way he comes across. It wasn't anything like his young years when his good looks and wonderful playing was enough. I think their musically best years were with him, but that's for a big part because Jagger and Richards were at a songwriting peak (among other reasons). Wood gave them staying power and was the right man at the right time, when music was dominated by disco and punk.

POV: it's 1978. You just saw Bruce Springsteen on the best tour of his career at Sam Houston Coliseum four days ago. You've just started listening to these newer bands called Talking Heads you just heard about Elvis Costello. You listened to "One Nation Under a Groove" by Funkadelic on the way back to the Sam Houston Coliseum to watch Peter Tosh open for the Rolling Stones and they just ran through this song before your eyes.

The first concert of my life, World Series of Rock, Cleveland Oh 1978, Peter Tosh backing up The Rolling Stones. Yes, my dad let me and four of my friends drive from Toledo to Cleveland before we were juniors in high school to see The Stones--not sure that was a good idea dad lol, but I was a Stones freak then and just as much now. RIP dad, you were much smarter than I realized then--I miss you so much, long live The Stones!
