Another absolutely smashing walk, thanks John. Actually, I have a confession to make. When I was a callow, unregarding schoolboy of 16, in1964, I blew up Beverly Brook. Our school, on Brixton Hill, had no playing field, so we were often taken to Wimbledon Common to engage in 'Cross-country Running'. The reality was that we jogged the length of a football field into the tree-line, mucked about for an hour or so, then jogged back. This often consisted off the setting of of 'explosive devices', fashioned out of lengths of pipe, or round brass doorknobs, made out of a weedkiller (which you could buy over the counter at hardware stores), mixed with sugar. Some of the 'chemists amongst us fashioned a fuse that burned underwater. We used to toss these into Beverly Brook; thay exploded with a satisfying 'whump', and an eruption of water. How we were not maimed, or killed is still a mystery to me. If anyon e walks that length of the Brook, I would be grateful if they could, possibly throw a votive offering, on my behalf, into her waters. A broken sword, or a spear head, or, more prosaically, a 2 penny coin. This may form an appeasement, and, hopefully, an expiation for my youthful misdeeds. My apologies to Beverly Brook.
Thank you for this walk, the Beverley brook was my youthful playground and place to learn. the last part where the dam is and the "wider bit" was where barges were push in to the council vestry to take away putney's waste. that river has a big part in my life.
Love this walk, I used to take my forest school children to Barnes common, visit the cemetery with them and play pooh sticks off of the bridge into Beverly Brook, this film was like visiting an old friend 💚

I used to walk footpaths for miles and miles, but nowadays as I have got old, I cant walk much anymore. It dose wind me up that I cant walk to much anymore, as I get out of breath very quickly, but I love going on your walks on my computer, and this walk must be one of your best ever made by you. I used to do so many walks and lead rambles too. years ago. Thank you so much for what you've done, giving me so much pleaser going on walks with you in my minds eye. Keep up the great work. Yet another inspirational walk, John. I live fairly near the Beverley Brook but have never taken the time to wander along her banks, the Wandle being my usual stroll of choice. Thanks to this lovely film, I will be visiting beautiful Bev as soon as possible.
Greetings John. Great river walk in another of my old stomping grounds - I used to go to school in Raynes Park and remember the brook being close by. The Pyl brook is a tributary of it which runs close to where my Mum is buried in Merton & Sutton cemetery. Will have to do this walk one time.
I like the sight and smell of those alleyways paths at this time of year with 'urban' wildflowers. Cow parsley is also known as queen anns lace. It is an essential pollination plant. London is home to large no. of ring-necked parakeets.

Hear the lark and harken to the dog fox, gone to ground, see the splashing of the kingfisher, flashing through the water and a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees, laughing as it passes through the endless summer, making for the seas ( Grantchester Meadows - Pink Floyd)
Love your river walks. Even though I've never been to London, I feel connected in some way. Perhaps because Vermont has 800 rivers and it's one of the smallest states in the USA. Where we live in Barre, we are surrounded by rivers and brooks. Like London and parts of England, they use to use the waterways to transport goods and services, especially granite, from the queries. I think the waterway gives a feeling of tranquility and peace. I used to live by a waterfall, and it was lovely, it would lull me to sleep.
Great stuff, I grew up in south west London and Beverly Brook in Richmond Park was the venue.of choice for Pooh Sticks. Now living in Leyton and my son had his first game of Pooh Sticks in the jubilee park stretch of Dagenham Brook the other day.
The nearby Hogsmill river ( Ewell to Kingston and a similar distance) is even better John. A very rare example of a Chalk stream, sourced from a spring at the foot of Epsom downs. You’d love it!
Despite living in Richmond, I've never followed the whole Beverley Brook walk. I always assumed that it included long road stretches, which put me off. Along the section in Richmond Park, you often see egrets (pure white birds like small herons) and even kingfishers (if you're lucky). The Tamsin Trail is a well-maintained wide trail all round the park. It was created by stringing together and improving various small footpaths, paid for by a wealthy local man who asked for it to be named after his daughter.

Fantastic walk. Maybe add The Norbury brook to your list? Starts in Croydon then Selhurst, Thornton Heath, Norbury and enters the Wandle after becoming the river Graveney. Look forward to the next one wherever that may be 😊

Really it starts just parallel to Nonsuch Park in Worchester Park and works it's way through Motspur Park before reaching New Malden however that part isn't as walkable. Loving the vid though, John, it's my home town!

John, what a lovely walk along the Beverley. Yes, you are right about the 🦫 beavers being helpful - if you open the stream, the sound of running water draws them to the site, and makes them dam it up. Have been used as an engineering resource in one of our not-quite-National parks.

I walk the Tamsin circuit regularly. Would love to know more about the person and family. I liked to think it was named after Tamsin Gregg.

It’s Craven Cottage, Fulham FCs ground. It had a massive redevelopment on the river side stand in the last couple of years.
