    I would have never thought running waxed paper through your paper punches could lubricate it. I have one from my grandmother I "retired" because of it's sticking, worked amazingly after treating. Thanks Lindsay!

    Another paint palette saver I made many years ago uses two small cookie sheets, binder clips, and weather stripping. Peal the backing from the weather stripping and place around the edges of one cookie sheet. Place your palette paper in the pan. Put your wet paper towel under the palette paper. Squirting your paint on the paper. When you are finished painting for the day place the other pan upside-down and use binder clips to hold the two pans together. The weather stripping makes a great seal to keep the air out. Cookie pans with a little bit of handle on the ends work best.

    Thanks Lindsay, This was such a helpful idea. It totally works! It is also great so you don't forget what colors you were using if you have to stop in the middle of a project.Thanks again'

    Idea- you could put four pieces of the sticky-back magnet tape in the outside corners of the takeout box, then use either the magnet tape or some of the little rare earth magnets to hold down your palette paper.
    In a similar line of thought, I have an old tin I found one year for Christmas (it held cookies), and I've repurposed it to hold my needles for sewing and crafting. I have tiny rare earth magnets spaced around it to hold needles on both the top and bottom of the tin. This way I don't have to worry about them spilling if I drop the box.

    Magnets... one in each corner on the inside, and one on each outside corner (on the bottom of the take-out container), ought to do the trick and not accidentally roll into your preserved paint. I suppose the external magnets could be hot-glued into place, but if that's too hot, double-sided tape might suffice.

    I have wasted so much of my acrylic paint when i first started. then i had this "bright" idea to put each of my colors i was using into their own tiny plastic clam shell like container and close them after every dip. it was such a pain.lol i ended up using a dvd case and put a strip of silicone along the edges and the two holes where the dvd holder tabs were to help keep air tight and works great and very travel friendly. But, when i do bigger projects, this idea is fantastic. thanks for another great tip! even tho im pretty late.lol

    I have used this "paint pallet" for a while and it works great for me too. The only thing I do different is I do not cut the wax paper to the exact size of my plastic container. I sut it a little bit bigger than the inside of the plastic, the just use my fingernail,( or a bone folder will work too) to make a crease along the bottom edges I have not had any problems with the wax paper curling since I started doing this.

    also if you watch your local Dollar Tree they sometimes have the plastic food containers that are about 8" square I would think that would be nice and give more working area. Not free but a dollar is still cheap. And I was also going to suggest the magnets in the corners of the container.

    A great sub for palette paper is kitchen parchment paper from the dollar store and I make my own Sta-Wet palette with a piece of thin sponge, a piece of parchment and a sealable container

    We still have a few Ben Franklins here in N. CA. The one in Grass Valley is wonderful. Good thing for me it is a few hours away :) Great upcycle use for the take out container. Easy size to store!

    Great tip. I do something similar. I use a plastic paint tray, put down wet paper towels, then palette paper and tape corners with masking tape. I spritz my paint with water and then seal it up in a large Rubbermaid cake container. Works great.

    I was just thinking of painting some kids tea cups that i got from the cheap shop here in town. It's a pretty warm spring here in Aussie, so this is perfect. I use wax paper for transfers too as well as pallets, It's pretty wonderful stuff :D

    Well I was going to suggest some type of adhesive to help hold down the stones in the corners but I read on down about the magnets on both sides and I like that idea even better! I just bought some palette's to hole one for water color paints and one for the acrylics but they have the lids on them. Will that not work even with a lid? Will they still dry out?

    • @thefrugalcrafter

      +Southern Angel Btq. Tammy Dameron (Southern Angels Boutique) yes, you will need to must it with water or put a wet sponge in the palette

    The trick to keep your paint from molding is to put a small hole in the corner of your container lid. You come back every week or two and give your paint a light mist if they look a little dry.

    Lindsay, great ideas, (didn't know that about wax paper and punches) but I love your video's and have learned so much in the last few months.. I have a question about some Acrylic Paints that I have. They are new, never opened before, but I had put them in the back of my craft closet and forgot about them. I found them tonight and when I opened a few of them, about 12 of them, (They are the SILKS, Acrylic Glazes, I believe from Luminere) they are very thick mud consistency and some are dried out..They are brand new, and I hate to throw them out. IS there anything I can mix in them to REVIVE them to a liquid consistency? Distilled water or Denatured Alcohol maybe? I don't know because they have so much mica pigments I think. I hate throwing out something I have never used, or opened. Thanks you so much.. I know your a artist and I trust your opinion. Please HELP? thanks, Victoria PS Just something I learned in soap making that might work with paints to..using distilled water will keep things from turning moldy~maybe it would work with paints. I dunno'

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Victoria Ciolek you can squirt some out and add a few drops of water and try remixing them with a palette knife. if that does not work they might have to be tossed:(

    • @tc247
      @tc247 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lindsay I forgot say they are in a JAR~so no squirting out..but i guess my question should have been is it ok to mix water with acrylics or should I use something else?..a blending liquid, Gesso?, or what? I am not a artist so I don't know these things. IF I can save them I will try it..thanks again, Lindsay.

    Lindsay, does the wax paper work as intended? I was informed to use only parchment paper (baking paper) as wax paper prevents moisture, baking
    paper allows the paints to keep more moist. Would be interested in your thoughts? I know someone who also adds a few drops of bleach and milton to the water underneath to prevent mould.

    Lindsay, Don't know where to ask this. I have a box of Write-on transparency Film, 8 1/2 by 11 that people write on with markers and then put in a projector, like at work during meetings. I tried stamping on it with black Momento dye ink and used my embossing gun to dry the stamped image. The stamp still smeared a bit, but film was getting out of shape, and I was afraid to heat it anymore. Can I actually stamp on these? Did I use the wrong kind of ink?

    • @LoveSarella
      @LoveSarella 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      if not, they're great as pallets for different mediums. I have a bunch as well, still with the tissue paper to separate each and I love them for that. I don't know about stamping though. If you also dye cut stuff, you can also try some fun things with that. I hope you enjoy the few ideas, good luck to finding out how to stamp on them! ☺

    • @deepowers3117
      @deepowers3117 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah Nunes Thanks Sarah. How kind of you to give me some ideas. Mine still have the tissue paper between each sheet, too. I had a tiger image that I wanted to stamp on the transparency and put over a piece of Japanese paper that would give him his colors instead of trying to color the stamp. Maybe not a good idea.

    • @angelaballou1715
      @angelaballou1715 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Deirdre Powers I've had success stamping images with StazOn inks onto transparencies. No heating required; the ink will dry on it's own and not smear so no warping of the transparency.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Deirdre Powers you can use staz-on ink or acrylic paint to stamp on them. Next time try the ink jet transparencies, you can print or use dye inks and even watercolors on them.

      This was just something I tripped on at Good Will that I was hoping I could put to some use. It was a box of 100 sheets for about $2.00. Is there anything at all that will color in stamps on them?
