Thank you so much for such a comprehensive explanation of how the patterning mechanisms work. I’ve watched several videos on this subject but yours is the first to cover every aspect, plus in easy to follow sections. A fantastic guide for any machine knitter!!

Thanks, and yes, there must be plenty of people who have figured this out for themselves while taking the machines apart with the help of the service manuals and the various repair videos that already exist. But I hadn't seen any end-to-end description of how it actually works, not focused on any one repair.

Very interesting video. Thank you for an in-depth explanation and views of the inner workings of the patterning mechanism.

My machine is clean. I have removed old grease and re-lubricated the carriage and the punch card unit. KC won't select properly. Could it be damage to the spring?

My KH892 punchcard’s patterning offset, ie, instead of patterning L12 to R12 it patterns L4 to R20. (Ie 8 needles to the right).
A simple work around is to change how I centre my work on the bed, but I was hoping this might be an easy fix. Watching your video it seems a lot more complicated and not at all obvious to me what to needs fixing. Any ideas appreciated. In the meantime I’m going to see if I can find the service manual, and whether that helps (though interpreting technical schematics is not a strength of mine!)

You could check that the belt is lined up correctly. Download the KH830 service manual from mkmanuals dot com, it's not your exact model but all the machines are the same in this area. On page 37 where it mentions "concave part of clutch wheel" that's a little dip in the pulley, which needs to line up with an oval hole in the belt.

@@machineknittingtopics Thank you so much. I figured out that what had happened is that the needle selector cam was out of alignment with the clutch wheel. This is cause 2 in MK service manual for the KH864 (p52). Unfortunately, by figuring this out I accidentally broke the punch card mechanism. (I don't think I physically broke anything, it's just that I've not been able to put it back together properly with everything in alignment. So it's off to get serviced and repaired. And hopefully the needle selection fixed!
