    I use my Ninet Jet RDO with 120 of travel for XC racing. I like the stability and the ability to get through tougher terrain than a hard tail or 100 mil travel bike. Plus, it does well on small jumps. I am looking at the Spur as well.

      That's kinda funny, you use the Jet 9 for XC racing. Syd & Macky used their Jet 9s to race an enduro last year.

    What’s the low down on powered shifts compared to XT/XTR? I’ve balked on all this wireless stuff simply because my Shimano drivetrains are so great. Not seeing the big benefit.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you'd need to try it to form an opinion on it. I have XT on my current bike and have demoed a few bikes with Transmission and my thought was, if a bike came with Transmission I'd keep it and be happy with it, but it's not enough of an upgrade for me to ditch the XT I currently ride. Though I'd probably dump GX Eagle mechanical for GX Transmission.

    How does the Smuggler
    compare? Is it worth the extra weight for the extra travel?

    I tried for 3 years to buy a Transition Spur during the pandemic and I could never get one. When the pandemic ended, Specialized had 30% off sales on the 2023 Epic Evo, so bought that instead. So far, I'm loving it. Downcountry bikes (Don't get you panties in a twist. I said the D-word.) have become my favorite category of mountain bike.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. I think at the end of the day, down country bikes will make 100 mm cross-country bikes obsolete for most riders. I don’t think I’m any slower on this bike.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was my take on downcountry bikes as well, if I were to get a second acoustic bike for the quiver I would get one, probably leaning towards a RM Element if I went that route as my main bike is currently a RM Altitude which I absolutely love. I demoed an Element and the geo and riding position felt like a trail bike, but with a level of pedal efficiency that blows away trail bikes. The main thing I liked was that it didn't have a super short reach or slammed stem like a lot of XC bikes have, but still pedals like an XC bike.

    Nice build, a spur might be one too look at for me after a short travel bike. Hmm a spur with ohlins and 12spd xtr 🤔

    Great vid Clint, that bike looks solid! Side question about the garmin, did you switch back to the 1030? I have an 830 but am contemplating getting the 1030. I recall your comparison vid mentioned weaker display brightness on the 1030, has that changed? Thanks

    What crank length were you riding before the 170’s? Wondering how far I would jump from 175’s.

      175. More pedal strikes for sure with the longer ones

    Clint do you think it would be worth upping the fork travel to 130-140mm for a heavy rider like 235 @ 6’6 love the reviews/ I want to buy a Spur but not sure if it’s enough travel for DuPont and Pisgah black/blue trails at my weight. Currently riding a Ripmo Af and over the weight for climbing as a 50 y/o plus rider. Thanks love the new build.

    wondering what the weight limit is for those flex stays. As a big boy I don't think they will hold up.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They look pretty beefy for flex stays, Transition frames in general are beefy. I've never heard of anyone breaking them. I usually only hear about cracked flex stays on Cannondales.

    Interesting that you went with the KS dropper on a dream build, rather than something like an AXS dropper or Bike Yoke.

    I hate to be a stickler for political correctness, however, I feel that it is my duty. If you wear a sweet button down like that especially while riding a mountain bike, you must not button any buttons above the nipple. I'm sorry but rules are rules. Another violation will send you straight to jail.

    Somewhat unrelated: giant just released the new trance advanced frame. It is very similar in spec to the niner jet 9. You've owned the jet and the older trance. How would you compare the two? The frames are similarly priced. Thanks!

    A very steep STA just made my new xc bike too uncomfortable, I also moved my seat as far back trying to feel comfortable and natural, couldn't adjust, I sent it back, hope you adjust, it's a damn nice bike otherwise.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just out of curiosity which XC bike was it? A lot of XC bikes aren't as steep on STA as trail or especially enduro bikes.

    What's your average speed on a ride like this, you look like you're really motoring.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pushing hard you could probably average 12.5 to 13, but these trails have some pretty tight and rooty sections that really slow down average speed. I typically don’t show the boring climbing on these videos.

    Being an avid follower of the industry, it seems the Spur is the best short travel bike on the market. It’s able to do things other bikes can’t.
