I love this series! Stumbled upon Mister Slaughter first but figured best to start with Speaks the Nightbird, and wow! Love the Michael Gallatin books as well. I really enjoyed the sense of self awareness in this novel. The MC novels usually seem to have a crazed tragic hero character, and so what did McCammon do? He made the whole plot revolve around madness 😂 the epitome of a theme throughout the series
So well said. How much loss can a person accrue before madness seems like the only way forward? Even if that person is afflicted by the King of Shadows and can't quite remember the loss suffered. A well as the theme of, what our father's impart to us and how will those lessons continue to shape us. So many amazing themes!
Dutch fan here. I have the signed limited edition. I’ve only just started reading it but I’m sure it’s going to be brilliant. Last (huge) book read: Shantaram. Highly recommend it… it’s an atmosphere/world-building book as well but I guess that’s where the similarities end. 😀
Great review and I couldn't agree more turn the rating of this book and your thoughts on the series. RC is one of the few authors whose prose can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. He is criminally under read here in the UK
Thanks so much! What would you say your favorite MCCammon is? I would probably say Swann Song but then again Mine is the best thriller I think I have ever read. Tough call.
@@Talking_Story Swan Song for me too, there is a scene in that book where I held my breath and the hairs rose on the back of my neck. I don't normally react like that. I've been writing for 13 years and can only hope to evoke am emotion like that from a reader. Loved Mine and Boy's Life is fantastic.
I’ll come back later to finish once I’ve read this series, but this totally sounds like something I need to try. I’ve only read Boys Life, and I loved it. I like him better than Stephen King.
@@Talking_Story it’s definitely on my list to read. The Stand was mediocre for me, but I’ve been told the extended version may have been a bit too much for me lol. I’ve heard great things about Swan Song, and I already know I like his writing better.
Matthew Corbett is quickly becoming an all time favorite series for me; Recently finished off book #6 and plan to get caught up soon!
McCammon stays on my all other things get pushed aside when a new book comes out list. Let me know what you think of King of Shadows

Try Swann Song it is alot like King's The Stand and it is wonderful!

I just finished this novel. About to read 7 shades of evil and can't wait until October. Yes it is addictive 😂
Leviathan has a December release so will have to wait a bit longer.
I love this series!
