That glasses one got me really surprised. Not many devs would program a detail that small just for the sake of consistency with a mechanic many either wouldn't notice or run into at all.

Here's a detail I think you will enjoy checking out. In the Dragon World mode in Budokai 3, all the locations on all maps are almost 100% accurate to the anime in terms of scale, distance, and area on the map. Especially the Namek map as it has all the destruction and battle damge that was made during the fights in the anime.
(e.g. The house that Gohan knocks Dodria into can be seen, as well as the rock formation that Frieza was chasing Krillen through.)
Yeah it’s crazy how good the attention to detail is. They even incorporated the SS Goku vs. Frieza/dying namek part of the saga into the map. You can see Frieza’s damaged spaceship in the craters.
Its hard to believe its 100% accurate but I do believe there is everything that happened in the anime.

The world map between Ball and Z are pretty much different. I blame the furry genocide wars that happened in the 5 year time skip before Z.

@@fabiohenriquefontanateske7067 Yes. Think about how many animal humanoids there were in Dragonball and the lack there of in DBZ and after. There was clearly a war incited by the World king at the time or the cause of a coup.
Regarding Ginyu's Body Change: In FighterZ, it properly swaps bodies with the opponent. You can't inflict self-damage at will, but when you perform the Body Change input, you can hold down the Super button to have Ginyu punch himself right before doing the change, taking a chunk off his own (soon to be the opponent's) life bar.
A detail I like in Tenkaichi 3 is it's references to the anime represented through basic combat. For example, if you use Early Piccolo, jump, and then hold the attack button he'll do a flipping double knee attack in the same motion he used on Goku in Dragon Ball. And it would make sense for "early" Piccolo to have it.
thats for most characters, though for whatever reason Goku can use a kienzan if you do the same motion.
Edit: it's a reference to Super Buu vs Goku in the Buu Saga. And bt3 is the only game to have Goku use a kienzan

The fact that they put so many little details in Tenkaichi 3 which was a PS2 game is why I loved that game so much. I hope they give Tenkaichi 4 the same love they gave Tenkaichi 3
I feel Trunks has Super Saiyan 2 because they weren't going to make Ascended Saiyan a form but wanted to give him a power up.

@@kadazee Devs probably did not have enough time to update the model, code it, and properly rig it. So, they just gave Trunks Super Saiyan two as a compromise.
This is 100% what I was saying. Plus by the time Budokai 2 came out, USS was outdated and irrelevant compared to Super Saiyan 2 and 3.
@@kadazee I’m not sure if the devs ported the models from Budokai 1 to Budokai 2. I heard that the poly count for the Budokai 1 models are higher than the cel-shaded ones from Budokai 2 up. So I think they just made new models for Budokai 2 onwards

I believe SS2 Trunks was just a game exclusive thing and the anime turned it into a reality. Just like the Final Kamehameha for Vegito
I always thought it was something he achieved after being revived at the end of the cell saga
He goes back to kill cell in his time and it’s not clearly ss2 but he’s definitely got a zenKai boost from it

I think it was given to him out of convenience for the devs. The game highlighted the Buu saga, so the Super Trunks and Super Vegeta forms were obsolete and irrelevant by then. Plus every character who could, used Super Saiyan 2 instead, Vegeta included. So rather than give Trunks his own unique USS form where they’d have to make his own unique stats, have it take up more space, or even adjust his character model, I think the devs just opted to use Super Saiyan 2 as a convenient stand in. That way it saved them some effort and space. I mean if you look at Trunks’s Super Saiyan 2 health bar mugshot in Budokai 2, it literally looks like his USS/Super Trunks form.

I think they prob thought that it had happen at some point off screen, especially someone who is alone and whole purpose is to protect Earth. He was not that far from being a SSJ 2 after the Games. And you got to ask, how did Trucks survive Babidi and The Demon King's encounter after beating Cell in his time ( I don't know if they stated this in Super, I never watched his parts ). He isn't like Gohan, Trucks does nothing but trains day in and day out like Goku and Vegeta.
Another really cool detail in tenkaichi 3 is during some story missions if you defeat characters earlier than you're supposed to the mission completes early like in the Frieza saga when you play as Frieza to fight everyone if you defeat Vegeta at the beginning before pressing the progress button the mission ends and has an alternate ending cutscene and still counts the mission as complete. Similarly if you defeat a single story boss with a different unintended character an alternate ending will play as well like in the Saiyan saga if Tien or Chiaotzu defeats Nappa the end cutscene is different
Yeah, you can pretty much give any mission that has switching characters an alternate ending if you can overcome the odds.
Best by far is Stan vs cell as a kid i beated it With mr Satan and i liked how cell acted exactly like like how mr Satan would if the crowd see him loosing to kid trunks

One small correction:(I hate to be like one of those people who corrects people but...)the only member of bardock's squad to be in bt2 and bt3 fasha/seripa for unknown reasons.
She's there to increase the number of female fighters.

@@kadazee i know the solution for ssj2 trunks it's because he turned to it in his own Majin Buu saga as seen in DBZ kakarot after completing the cell saga you play as trunks in the Majin Buu saga who turns into ssj2 after the supreme kai's death
Yeah this series makes me realise how much heart developers used to put in even tiniest details people might even ignore meanwhile current games like kakarot which should be accurate to source doesn't even care about ssj power up aura being blue instead of yellow
The reason they don't allow you to use techniques of switched characters is due to the fact that when he got Goku's body he couldn't even use half of his strength or moves for that manner

3:40, in the first Tenkaichi game, you do actually swap bodies with the enemy character. Don't know why they changed this for Ginyu in Bt2 and Bt3
The character customization in Budokai Tenkaichi 3 radically and dynamically changes the game, and I'm surprised so few people played with it.
I don't know if I ever play with or against a non-customized character anymore. The fights are longer, better, more intense. All around it's just more fun

There’s one Easter Egg that everyone’s missing. I don’t think I’ve seen any Budokai Easter Egg video covering it. In some instances in Budokai 3, when Vegeta performs his Final Flash, the beam planet destruction cutscene shows the ocean water being lifted as the Final Flash is being fired out of the planet. This is not only faithful to when Vegeta used the Final Flash in the anime, but it’s also the only Beam Planet Destruction cutscene to do so. It’s entirely present in the HD Collection. In the PS2 version I’m not sure how to trigger it. I remember it being a thing when I played it as a kid, but when I watch PS2 gameplay footage of Vegeta’s Final Flash on TH-cam, some people’s have it, some don’t.
I also have a theory the Super Saiyan 2 Trunks in the Budokai games (For anyone reading this about to say Trunks went SS2 in Super, do remember that these games were made in 2003 and 2004. That’s a whole decade before Dragon Ball Super was even conceived). My take is that they used Super Saiyan 2 in place of the Super Trunks/USS form. Since Budokai 2 covered the Buu Saga, nobody was using the USS form anymore (Vegeta included because he regularly uses SS1 and SS2 in the Buu saga). So I think rather than giving Trunks his own unique USS form where they’d have to code new slots/stat boosts/new model for the form, it was more convenient to just give him Super Saiyan 2. Like Gohan and Vegeta, his SS2 model is exactly the same as his SS1 model. The only difference is that they basically just added the lightning aura on. Even his Super Saiyan 2 mugshot in his Budokai 2 health bar looks more like USS than SS2. So yeah I think it’s definitely a convenient stand-in to make it easier on the devs.
As confirmed by the Manga, and DBZ: Kakarot, Trunks went SS2 during his own Buu Saga in his timeline to destroy Babidi and Dabura before they release Majin Buu (after the death of Kibito, and the eventually death of Supreme Kai)
@@thebat42069 Talking about within the context of when these games came out in 2003-2004. AT THAT TIME, none of Dragonball Super existed. Wasn’t even a thought yet. So the devs making Super Saiyan 2 Trunks in 2003 and 2004 was a convenient compromise that coincidently became canon.
I actually like this theory and i think it’s true. I did notice that his mugshot in his health bar is closer to USS than SS2.

Another thing to add, is that all the transformation skills are pretty much uniform in the power increase and ki gauges required to activate the skill. Example, all Super Saiyan 2 skills across the board require 5 ki gauges to transform (4 in Budokai 2). So it would’ve been difficult to determine how to implement USS for that. Would they just stack the transformations like Budokai 1?
Funnily, Yamcha when dying to the Saibaimen he does his iconic pose rather the usual poses.
Are there any more fun details on quest/story mode on Tenkaichi 3 by beating/losing some fights as a what if? I loved those you did in the other video, I even try to actively search too, but some are so hard to do or tedious. (Say, the Nappa vs Z-fighters one)
I know that in one of the frieza saga battles, if you kill gohan as frieza phase 3, you get to battle vegeta

I once tried beating both Android 19 with SSJ2 Goku with the virus taking effect, and I was dissapointed that the end is the same, altough Gero does get mad at 19 lol

So, in the Xenoverse games, Body Swap actually _does_ swap characters with your opponent. AND it's a CAC move in XV2. And body swap builds are actually meta - what you do is make a small male majin with no stat boosts, give him body swap and a bunch of useless joke moves, let your opponent beat him down a bunch and then swap when you're low on health.

I wouldn't say it's Meta. It's a "Win More" situation. If you can manage to stamina break your opponent as a small male Majin without any stat boosts or skills, then that's a player you definitely could've beaten with a normal build

It would be a "win more" if it was just tacked onto an existing build. But in this case it's a dedicated build - the win condition is getting the stamina break and then swapping.

Male Majins only get buffs to health and stamina, and increased defense when stamina is above a certain percentage of full which doesn't help when you break their stamina. Plus their moveset is awkward if you're not used to it. Female Majins get faster stamina regen and recovery and running less stamina can actually be a benefit for them, so they're not as optimal for this strat.
Also it's just funny as hell to steal your opponent's character and leave them with a small fat orb of bubblegum in a silly outfit.

It's funny you did forget Fasha she is the only character to this very day he playable in anything. Side games or gets referenced in a lot of other games. Like her armour in Xenoverse her hairstyle and or moves lol. It's cool she still gets some love to this day. Even though she showed up once within the series.

This is why I love these series of games, playing them as a kid back when they released, of course I only cared about the combat and transformations but after really being able to comprehend the series of Dragon Ball and playing these games with that knowledge and seeing these little details the devs included is amazing considering a lot of them were things people wouldn’t notice initially such as the Kame house one and to think they did all this with PS2 games. Both Dimps and Spike were perfect DB game developers because you could tell they genuinely understood and loved the source material and weren’t just trying to make a quick buck off of Dragon Ball’s rising popularity at that time

I believe the Trunks SSJ2 thing is because, Trunks went to SSJ Grade 3, which was a HUGE difference to the classic SSJ. But the Devs couldn't (or didn't want to) change his playstyle, since this Trunks didn't use his sword or couldn't be that fast.

basically you dash attack with LSSJ Broly on the front door and after a few tries, you should be able to get inside!

Just to add a little to the the Ginyu Easter Egg, the character you change into will still taunt and pose like Ginyu when idling!

I remember being able to clip into Kame House in BT3. You had to position the opponent just right, play as LSSJ Broly, and if you ran at the corner, you’d phase through the wall and be in Kame House.

As a kid I always though Trunks somewhat achieved that "ssj2 level" after the Cell Games.

One that I like, is in raging blast 1. Super saiyan hair has that yellow glow, but if you get hit or are knocked down or aren’t charging, it’s that bleach white like from the buu saga

Something worth noting is that in Tenkaichi 3, if you level a character all the way to the top of the ladder the final, strongest opponent you’ll face in the end is surprisingly Krillin. Seems the little guy at least gets some respect in this regard.
I always figured they added Super Saiyan 2 for Trunks as a replacement for the buff form.

His name was always Freeza. It was mistranslated to have an I in it. Similar to how Vegito is supposed to be "Kakarato" and "Vegeta". But in English there's no O to add from Kakarot making the name not work as well.

Here’s something interesting. In the Budokai games, when Cell fights against Teen Gohan, he uses his Perfect Form voice instead of his base form voice in the intro dialogue. Quite an oddity really

Fun fact: the Japanese @5:04 above Tora actually says Grandpa Gohan so probs a placeholder. I remember them using Nappa for the Tenkaichi 2 story mode - I guess they really didn't want to go to the trouble of making another one-time model?

Last thing about the Super Saiyan 2 Trunks debacle (I promise).
In Budokai 3, when characters transform, they either just grunt, yell, or they say a quick quote. Usually when they say a quote, it’s actually a direct yet subtle reference to when they actually transformed in the series. It’s a nice little touch by the devs.
Examples:
-SS4 Goku: “I’m stronger this time.”
-SS Vegeta: “Prepare yourself!”
-SS2 Teen Gohan: “I won’t forgive you!”
-Ultimate Gohan: “You can’t win!”
-SS3 Gotenks: “The mack-daddy of justice!”
-Unlock Potential Krillin: “That’s more like it!”
-Sync with Nail Piccolo: “Let’s do this!”
-100% Full Power Frieza: “Here’s my full power.”
-Super Perfect Cell: “Even more perfect!”
SS2 Trunks has a quote. He shouts, “Come on!” after he transforms to SS2. Even if it’s not that profound of a quote, the devs put in the extra effort to give him that instead of a random grunt or wail. So what that probably means his that his SS2 form is indeed directly referencing something. Whether it’s a reference to his USS or not, we may never know.

I think Super Saiyan 2 Trunks is a sort of placeholder for Ascended and Ultra SS, since developer didn't make them in Budokai 3, proffo could be that in story mode both Vegeta and Trunks use SSJ4 against Cell.

Now that you said it, on top of yellow Vegeta and red Salza, there's also yellow Dodoria and Yellow Cui, and also palette swap for "frieza soldier".

In terms of Ginyus body swap, I believe in DragonBall Z Infinite World Ginyu will actually swap both bodies and health bars with your opponent, meaning you could keep getting beat up until you are ready to cheese your opponent for an easy win

Perhaps the original japanese version of the game has a picture of a sexy woman there or something, and they put Roshi's face to censor it. Maybe you should check the japanese version of the game to see if there's another easter egg there.

Future Trunks going SS2 is cannon, he does so in his continuation story after returning to his own timeline after the defeat of Perfect Form Cell in the main timeline, his ascension to SS2 happens in his version of the "future" Buu Saga where he defeats both Dabura and Babidi with some assistance from the Supreme Kai, this story is retold in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot in the Warrior of Hope dlc but has weirdly enough never been retold anywhere else despite being pretty old by now, we do however get a few glimpses of it in Dragon Ball Super when Future Trunks returns to the main timeline.
I mean it happened, yes, but at the time these games were released back in 2003-2004. The continuation of Trunks’s story ascending to SS2 while fighting Dabura wasn’t even a thought yet. I would say it’s a convenient compromise from the devs that coincidently became canon.

I want you to mention how Tenikaichi 2 introduced the Oozaru forms for Raditz, Nappa and Turles. And 3 did the same with king Vegeta's (at least in his og armor - since his oozaru form technically debuted in GT, but it looked like any other naked Oozaru)
Some of the sickest forms ever, especially for people like me, who grew up with Tenikaichi 2 and 3, and for whom giant characters always left a huge impression (seriously, imagine playing as kid Gohan, and taking on one of the side missions in Tenikaichi 2's story mode, and who do you have to face? 2 giant gorillas... not 1, 2).
And as we know, this info is relevant not only because those forms were specifically made for that game, but also because Oozaru Nappa was brought back at full force for Xenoverse 1 and 2, so it's easy to tell to the newbies that that form is older than they may think.
... Yes, I know of db heroes, but that game took quite a loooooooong time to come to the west.

A bit unrelated but it reminds me of the Ranma 1/2 PSX game. In that game you get hot or cold water randomly which changes the characters according to their curse. But if one of the character doesn't know that the other is cursed (Like with Akane and Ryouga) the water won't appear for that character and they won't transform.
You can really find so much passion in the older games that the newer ones sort of have but just can’t replicate for some reason

I personally like Tenkaichi 2 ginyu lot more cuz he actually swap body with the opponent and can use all the skill the opponent have
