    Another tip: Don’t throw away the used vinegar solution. Use it in other areas to dissolve mineral deposits. I pour mine in the toilet bowl and let it sit about an hour. The hot vinegar really does a job on any mineral build up, as well as around the water trap where you can’t see to clean.

      It's also great for soaking Shower Head and Sink filters that usually come un-screwwed for Cleaning, Allowing Water to Flow thru Much Better!!😉... Also works on Hard to Clean Orange and Brown type Algae Stains that appear on lower/bottom half of Homes, Patios, and Pool Decks, etc.!!😉

    Cleaning the reservoir with vinegar is recommended once a month, according to the manual for the Black & Decker CM1060 model coffee maker. Thanks for the helpful video!

      Same issue here. They don't make most coffee makers very easy to disassemble. Which, I gather, is the only option to clean the coffee grounds residue caked inside of the water reservoir when they made the opening too small to get your hand in with a sponge to loosen it up. Or the straw holder is affixed to the top of the reservoir, further limiting maneuverability.
      I started taking my Mr. Coffee machine - which I love - apart, only to find that it's nearly impossible to get to the point where you can take the surround piece on top which holds the lid and everything else on top together without the disassembly getting really involved. There are water tubes, wires, the hot plate... One of my water tubes was actually coated with brown goop and was dripping a thick brown substance on the exterior of the tube. I just gave up. Not worth the effort when it was made to be difficult to clean and ultimately make a person sick and force them to purchase a new unit eventually.
      Now I'm looking for a unit with a removeable water reservoir, or at least made to where the water reservoir is completely cut off from the filter basket. To prevent coffee dust from entering the water reservoir. But then the reservoir would need to be large enough to fit my hand in as well, with no plastic limiting hand movement, and above all, no crevices around the inside of the lid that are impossible to clean.
      Now I've run into another issue! All the machines that are suitably made, with the brew options I want, and a removeable reservoir have stupid touchscreen controls. Those are bound to fail! Or they don't beep when touch buttons are pressed or when the brew cycle finishes. You just can't win for losing lmao.
      Good luck! I'm eyeballing the Cuisinart 14 cup coffee maker with removeable reservoir and touch buttons right now. Some missing features I feel are important (actual buttons and missing beep function), but it's the best I can find at a decent price. Other than renewed Ninja brewers.
      Mr. Coffee has lost their way. I became physically ill because of how difficult it is to clean the brewer I had. And how easy it is for it to accumulate bacteria in certain places, even when cleaning with vinegar regularly.

      @@terrapinflyer273 thank you for helping me here, you saved me a lot of heartache ❤️❤️❤️
      I’m just gonna get a new coffee maker and replace it every so often until I find a coffee maker that you can actually deep clean.
      Ugh I guess I should go back to one of those metal stovetop percolators 😑
      I thought I moved on to better coffee makers but apparently they all collect sickly poo 😭 💔

      Mine recommends using a paper filter during cleaning. This catches the solid particles of minerals which are broken loose by the solvent.

    I used straight vinegar way to late in the game and it didn't clean the .25 cent ball valve in the supply tube under the reservoir, which is probably why my water will not flow. When I accessed the heating element area I found a broken/shattered piece of metal that sounded like rocks rattling around, that I have no idea of it's purpose. Which is I chose not to take the tube off and attempt to clean the ball/check valve, but it's a shame that such a tiny part is able to ruin a coffee maker.

    I have the Cuisinart brew central maker DCC-1200 Series. Only a few drops of water were filtering through from the reservoir into the decanter when making a pot of coffee. I'm cleaning it with the vinegar/water mixture, but still so far only a few drops are continuing to trickle through. Should I keep cleaning this way? Will it work itself out or is my 4 yr. old maker a gonner?

    • @christhestampeder
      @christhestampeder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should not use any filter at all for the cleaning process.

    • @skittles2055
      @skittles2055 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve seen elsewhere to use paper filter during the vinegar round. I think that may be to sorta slow the the vinegar and let it soak areas longer/better. Don’t think it’s needed for the water.

    • @christhestampeder
      @christhestampeder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What sense does that make? By the time it hits the filter, the vinegar has already circulated through the whole system. All you're doing is wasting a filter. It's not going to hurt anything, but it won't help either. It's just a waste and a potential mess.

    • @skittles2055
      @skittles2055 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      christhestampeder I imagine it helps the vinegar soak a little bit in the attached permanent basket area, rather than just dripping down.

    • @skittles2055
      @skittles2055 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I guess that theory doesn't make sense either because, with my coffee maker at least, the filter sits in the removable basket that can get cleaned separately anyway, and therefore doesn't touch the sides of the fixed basket (or whatever it's called. I'm not a big coffee person). Hah so who knows. Either way, no biggie.

    Doesn't most of these auto coffee makers use plastic parts including the reservoir tube? Mine has plastic. Wouldn't the acidic vinegar or lemon juice over time eat through those or cause the plastic to bleed into the water?

    • @ethereal1257
      @ethereal1257 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally dilute the the vinegar with water before running it through so i was really surprised she didnt do that. Yes it vi egar can be harsh on plastics especially when heated. I would dilute it.

  • @denncorby4115

    Cuisinart coffee makers are notorious for mold. They have black tanks which have no removable parts except for the basket and filter. Your hands have to be kid sized to reach into the tank to clean. We've used white vinegar for years and it does not kill mold no matter what you hear. I you leave the top up to air out the tank you leave it open to insects. My wife religiously cleans out the tank to no avail. She's now keeping the top closed because the last time she filled the tank with water 2 spiders with huge bulbs scampered out. It wan't the first time. The the vicious circle completes. Keep the top open to air out and risk insects or keep it closed and accept mold? We've gone back to an old white tank Mr Coffee that we have used as a back up for many years. We can see inside the tank to clean it and look for creatures. Vinegar is a sufficient cleaner for this coffeemaker. Nothing worse than drinking mold water or spider eggs.

    This does not clean ALL the minerals and sediment out of the resrvoir. Don't believe me? Just get a bright led flashlight and look inside the reservoir of a 1 year old coffee maker. It will be filthy.
    It needs to be cleaned mechanically which is not easily done.
    But who cares... The sediment won't hurt you.

    • @ronaldcarmona5485

      Kevin Kordes the real answer to this is that the taste you get depends on water quality in your area. Follow the suggestions on the bag of coffee you are using OR the brewer instructions. You learn to make good coffee only by trial and error. Hope this helps.

  • @robrob7011
    @robrob7011 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You said to run the coffee maker 3 times with just water after finishing the vinegar. You said that is to remove the remaining minerals. The minerals that you are cleaning out in the first place, come from water. Therefore, water will not clean the residue left behind by water.... Understandably, the 3 times rinsing with just water will remove any vinegar that has been left behind during cleaning. It is just your reasoning for the 3 water rinsing cycles that is off. Hopefully this helps! :)

    hard water has a lot of calcium in it. this calcium gets deposited on anything when it dries. a typical water filter does not take out calcium. only distilled water from a RO system or a soft water system does that. this video is pretty poor.

    You have just completely given incorrect information
