I got the ProCycle with gel in it for Father's day, so haven't had it long. I like it so far and did a 200 mile ride a week ago. It's like riding on a Cadillac seat after the stock seat 😂. I live in the PNW and rarely see the temps you do. The gel gets hot in direct sunlight, so keep that in mind. I have a sheepskin I throw on if I will be parking it in the sun. It is slightly wider when you stand, but it feels good to grip between the legs. Some people complain about it not having enough grip if that's important for you riding off road. I ride mostly country roads with some forest service roads when not commuting to work. I got it through recommendations from ProCycle for my use. I visit my best friend who lives 600 miles away a couple times a year and wanted something better then the stock seat for the trip. My mother also lives 100 miles away, so it'll be nice for that trip too.
Very nice! I (briefly) considered gel but after doing some research it just wouldn't have worked for me out here in the desert. It's either too hot or too cold and the gel doesn't work so well in those conditions from what I learned. You ain't kidding about the 'Cadillac seat' after you swap that stock out, man...what a difference!
I have Seat Concepts, and have had Corbin the past. Owned my DR since new, 2001 model. I would stay away from gel seats no matter the brand, cold as ice and hot as hell! Both the forementioned seats are great.
Carb bikes are jetted really lean from factory to meet DOT emissions standards. That being said going up in elevation means less air but same fuel so the bike will run richer and probably actually where it needs to be.
I am not so sure about that. As air density decreases, the fuel delivery will also decrease. It's a mass-mass ratio that makes a carburetor function. Mass is what creates all the pressures that make a carb function.
I got a low seat by seat concept for my KLR and it was really comfortable. I used to live in Vegas and I have been out to the Cedar Breaks a few times, every time it was amazing.
I bought the Sargent seat for mine, it's pricey but it's the best dual sport seat I've experienced. I can ride for hours without the seat being an issue.
I ride in Phoenix so I know about the heat. I've had a few friends try putting gel pads or getting gel seats and they found that with the heat the gel warms up and stays hot so you end up sitting on a hot squishy backside warmer that doesn't cool down during the ride. For the heat just stick with something that has foam. Thanks for the warning about the seat I'm getting ready to buy a Dr myself when I move to Ash fork
I have a 23 and have the procycle standard heated seat and it’s very comfortable for long trips. I also picked up an Alaskan Buttpad and it’s made it more comfortable.
Thanks for you DR650 related vids. I kinda discounted this model, but given how I ride a TW200, I think it is pretty much the next rung up of "let's enjoy the 80s a bit longer".
I'll comment on DR650 seats, my DR650 was a used purchase I tried to use the stock seat for about 1500 miles I feel same as you. Been using a complete seat concepts low seat for about 500 miles I guess there is a break in of some miles not sure but it's not very comfortable yet. I have a corbin on my 2006 KLR650 also used purchase, seat was old looking but it is way more comfy.
I just got a Procycle seat for the DR650. I have a review of the standard and the gel seat coming in the next couple of weeks. I had no issues up to about 10,500-11,000 ft. but I could start to feel a loss around 11,200-11,500'
Yeah, looking hard at the Sargent. I'm under the impression it's the widest. Any issues while standing off road, does the Sargent seat get in way at all?
I had a pro cycle seat on my old dr and had no complaints I’m currently using a seat concepts on my drz and it’s a bit narrow where I sit not as comfortable and I think it’s just about the same seat as the dr anyway both good options
I've got the seat concepts -2 inch seat with grip on the sides, great seat, i'd give it a 7/10, only problem I have is that it doesn't fit quite as snug to the stock tank as I'd like and its the same width as the stock seat so not amazing, other than that I've done about 600 miles on it and as long as you mix offroad with standing and sitting its great, I only notice it as uncomfortable when bouncing on and off it. I wish that I took the stock seat to get reupholstered to keep the look/snug to the tank
Yeah, I had heard that Seat Concepts might of dropped the ball for their DR650 seat. The Procycle seat thus far has been awesome for me. I also looked at the Sargent seat but thought it might be too wide.
For seat comfort on my XR650 I have wind rider seat cover. Keeps air flowing under your butt, You don't sit in a puddle when it rains with some cushion. Gel retains heat have had every type of gel made for my motorcycles always hot. 2nd seat cover i have used on My KTM1290 did an Iron Butt with it, 1577 miles in 21 hrs & 39 minutes was a wooden beaded seat cover like the cabbies use. It was great . I have been riding for 45 years and tried shit load of seats, covers, cushions and sheep skins etc. Stock seats always suck The above 2 have work best for me. in the past i always had a aftermarket seats they were just a little better.
@@precipiceofgrind even if she was just an add on this video! I love mine! In the middle of Givi Crash Bar install (need to tap the left bottom bolt hole….) but man is that a easy fun bike!
I have a chronic case of noassatall. Seat Concepts is what I have on all of my dual sports (except I have the factory "grandma's couch' on the KLR). Love Seat Concepts. Also throw Alaskan Leather sheepskin over it and you'll be in heaven.
'Grandma's couch'...brilliant. I'll be using that piece of vernacular, love it! I have the SC on my Honda 300L and it's excellent. I'm hearing great things about the Alaskan buttpads! Appreciate it!
I would watch for overheating at those elevations.. the Suzuki will be starving for air and running lean. They are already set really lean from the factory. Great vid as usual. Congrats on doing Hell Hole Pass on the KLR. Your riding has come a long way in the last year or two. 👍
Good to know! I'm inclined to agree, I've really noticed an improvement in my riding this year...maybe excluding the broken ribs and crushed foot...but yeah, onward and upward! Thanks for watching!
Incorrect advice in your reply. A carb jetted for sea level will run richer at higher altitudes making for harder starting and increased fuel consumption.
I have the Seat Concepts Comfort Seat and it's terrible, just as hard as the original seat only wider. Very disappointed in the company. Great seat cover, awful seat foam.

The Doctor is the greatest dual-sport ever made period!

What a great ride & views! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I have the Suzuki gel seat on my 17 model I found online for less than 200 and it is very comfortable
It’s jetted really lean from the factory. Up to 12,000 ft. My exhaust gets super hot at sea level from the lean jetting!
I bought the Sargent seat for mine, it's pricey but it's the best dual sport seat I've experienced. I can ride for hours without the seat being an issue.
Yeah, I'm looking hard at the Sargent. I think it's the widest seat over the Procycle and SC seats. Notice anything while riding off road?
@@precipiceofgrind I haven't had any issues standing off road myself but I'm no hard enduro rider.
@@precipiceofgrind yes, the sargent is wider and really really good!

I went with the Procycle Standard seat and am very happy with it. Gel was not for me.
Moto skivvies helped immensely I use them for longer rides just a suggestion.
I have a 23 and have the procycle standard heated seat and it’s very comfortable for long trips. I also picked up an Alaskan Buttpad and it’s made it more comfortable.
The procycle is wider than stock correct?
@@precipiceofgrind yes it is. And it’s easy and comfortable to shift forwards and backwards on.
Sargent feels amazing

thats good to know we live right at 5000ft 60 miles or so the pass is around 10 to 11 thats a good deal

I'll check those out, appreciate it! Any thoughts on the Sargent seat?
Good info.
I've had the Sargent seat on my bike for a few years now. It's fantastic. My only regret is not buying it sooner.
Yeah, looking hard at the Sargent. I'm under the impression it's the widest. Any issues while standing off road, does the Sargent seat get in way at all?
The seat concepts seat is not luxurious except compared to stock either. I recommend after you change the seat, also get a sheep skin
on to the top of the world.....maybe.....rumors are floating around that the dr will follow the KLR and go FI....would be nice to try one FI
Been curious as to when (or if) that would happen.

Still have the 300L?? Trying to decide between 300l and Dr650 for gravel roads and back country routes. thx!
Both bikes will do well for those riding scenarios. The 300L is lighter, something to think about.
How tall is Jenn? She’s flat footing the Himmy like there is no tomorrow.
Jen is 5'8". Yeah, Himmy got low seat height.

Hi what's the seat pad you have for the xt 250 sorry its not related
No worries. It's an Air hawk pad. It does make a difference, the trick with the pad is to just barely inflate it.
Do you think the XT250 wouldhave faired?
I think the XT250 would have been just fine at 10,000 ft...now the 100 miles on the interstate is another story.
I would watch for overheating at those elevations.. the Suzuki will be starving for air and running lean. They are already set really lean from the factory.
