The judges each chose a song for the contestants to choose from. Iam’s choices were: What A Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong from Luke / Consider Me by Allen Stone from Lionel / More Than Words by Extreme from Katy. He was going to sing More Than Words but wasn’t sure about the high notes. Iam was hesitant to sing What A Wonderful World…said Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole covered that song and made it legendary from where he was from and was worried about not doing it as good as IZ and because he never sang that song before.
A wonderful iconic artist Israel Kamakawiwaole from Hawaii performed that song that we all locals love. Iam was scared he wouldn't do it justice and being respectful he didn't pick that song at first but he did a great job!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s a Gift 🎁 he really is … American Idol has many gifted singers but Iam is more than singing he’s a delivery from his soul to ours …😢🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🙏🏻
What A Wonderful World was a cover done best by local Hawaiian legend brudda IZreal aka IZ. And Iam didn’t want to fail the cover. IZ was an important artist to the people of Hawaii and it was a great deal to do another cover of the song fallowing IZ.
Iam didn't want to sing that version because Braddah IZ sang it and made it popular in Hawaii. Iam didn't want to disrespect Braddah IZ. Iam did his own version though and did Braddah IZ proud. You may want to play IZ's version.
Aloha I respect both of da braddah's Sings what a wonderful world Braddah iz have his own style Braddah Tongi have his own stlye Both of them have da voices Both of them have good hearts Both of them love bye da people YESSAH you can't go wrong with that. Braddah Tongi is our winner❤😊😂❤ We all love you braddah Tongi.
A Hawaiian artist IZ sang this song too. But Iam put his own twist to it and he didn't want to sing it and mess up. I think thats why Luke said that. But in our Polynesian Culture we take that at heart. We do our best not to disrespect anyone that we look up too growing up on the island. IZ is proud of you Iam. Islanders did not disappoint, you making us all proud and putting our Polynesian jams out there ( like Fiji would call it back in the days ) Jawaiian music. Thank you so much Iam❤
Luke Bryan was talking about Iam being critical of himself because Hawaiian legend Braddah Iz has his iconic version of “Wonderful World”. Iam admitted he was afraid to do it a lil because he thought people wouldn’t like it as much as Braddah Iz..Braddah Iz’s version is iconic, can’t be touched. But Iam should be proud, that was a great performance!!
They said he was critical of himself because another Hawaiian artist did a beloved rendition of this song. His name was IZ. Maybe you could react to that version.
So many great singers this season but I really feel the "IT" factor in Iam. This isn't just a singing competition, it's an IDOL competition...and he has it!
Iam is the ONE. I agree with Katy. He’s magic… he touches the world soul to soul….Yes he is a worldwide phenomenon! I want him to win this thing. Y’all VOTE!
Take a look at the intro before his performance he initially chose “More than words” because he didn’t want to do “Wonderful World” because of braddah IZ. Love your reactions to our Toko ❤!
Israel Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole, goes by Braddah IZ is a Hawaiian Legend, Hawaiian Icon in Hawaii. He sang this song as well as other songs. I am from the island of Oahu, I grew up in the island hearing IZ version, my grand parents knews IZ family. You might want to see IZ version. And Iam mentions IZ in the little intro before he performed
People in Hawaii should be very proud of you Iam you made Iz on the map the whole world know of you Lillie and Rodney as well as your family All the song you sing every one is going to the internet to ck out the original and cover performance and now because of you I no who James blunt and Iz is Louis Armstrong was a singer when I was growing up as well as Lionel. Just love you to death
There is a small part of the video you missed where he had to pick one of three songs. And was asked what he thought of the songs. He stayed away from What A Wonderful World at first because Braddah Iz made it popular in Hawaii and he was afraid of not doing it justice. He was going to go with More Words Until they encouraged him to try this song. Luke couldn’t remember Braddah Iz’s name LOL. Been enjoying your reactions to Iam and your’s is one of the first I look for after he performs. Aloha!
@@PaiA-u9i I’ve seen a couple of reactions with the beginning part of the clip but I don’t want to disrespect Dennis by posting them here. I’m not sure why most of the other videos cut that part out though.
Thank you for loving him and I look forward to Your reactions as well. It hits harder from his first audition esp for those who also lost their father at a young age.
Braddah IZ hes one of the most well known, iconic singersnfrom Hawaii and he did a version of this song and it's been one of the most iconic songs throughout the world. So iam felt that he wouldn't do that song justice but he sure did!! Braddah IZ is the guy everyone is comparing Iams voice to
What a Wonderful World because Israel Kamakawiwoole's rendition is legendary as is his Somewhere over the rainbow. Iam was worried about not doing it as well as IZ did. But, Iam can do it his way to add to the island style of this song as he can with any song. Maybe it is out of respect, but both ways can be respectful singing the song as well as respectfully leaving it to Braddah IZ. He did it Iam's way and it was great!
Gosh I got totally enraptured with the song and his voice "OH MY WORRRD" I just melted mmmhmm...❣❣❣ Luv you Iam, your heart, your soul and your soulful sultry voice just blows me away everytime💛💛💛
Here in Hawaii that song was made popular by Brudda Iz, who was an icon on the islands. There is no way to compare the Iam and Iz. Iam has made us proud in Hawaii. Here is the link the Iz cover: th-cam.com/video/R0xoMhCT-7A/w-d-xo.html
That song was sung by Israel Kamakawiwaole (Brother Iz) who is an icon in Hawaii. Iam was afraid he would not do the song justice in deference to Brother Iz. Many in Hawaii have compared Iam to Brother Iz, who passed away a few years ago.
All that Lionel commented, is exactly what you've been saying from the start! You saw it all Dennis..thank you! Also want to thank u for recommending Iam's performances to RegenerationNation..They've also been awesome in the reactions & comments.. You all are beautiful people!❤
NanaMason82 got it right on why he was so critical of himself. I cried when the Judges' Choice at the end of the announcement of the Top 7 was Oliver Steele. I hope they are #1 and #2 at the end. Thanks for your reaction.
Merci Denis exacte Tongi et vraiment spéciale, waouh je n aie jamais regardée aussi intensément américain idole , une chose et sur c est que quand on l écoute chanter on se sent bien c est dingue bravo à lui ❤❤.
Iam Tongi's Audition Is The Most-Viewed Of 2023 Season Tongi's audition has been viewed more than two hundred thousand times on Idol's TH-cam and more than 100 million across all of social media.
Iz, Armstrong, and Tongi collaboration. Beautiful! Alanis Morrisette and Ed Sheeran are in place of Katy and Lionel because they are going to the Coronation of King Charles 111.
The song was covered by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole (IZ) and its a classic in the culture. He is being compared to IZ and im sure he didnt want to disappoint those who know and love IZ's version. But he can do bo wrong! You gotta listen to IZ's version and you'll understand.
Loved your reaction, as always. 63s, ye said he 2aw afraid he wouldn't do the song justice, but ofcourse he did! It was soooooo beautiful!!!! And, he really is something special for sure!!! I'm sorry, I don't know what happened there with the spelling. Lol. I meant; yes, he was afraid he wouldn't do the song justice, or sing it as good as the original singer.
I guess because Iam was being critical about if he could cover Iz’s version and do it justice. He def did. Thank you for continuing to support our guy❤
I love love love Iam Tongi. My husband says it’s his story that makes people love him. I disagree!! His voice is magical and touches my heart every single time. Can I just say I love this channel? I just started watching. Don’t know your name my man sorry. But I LOVE you!!!
Luke said, "I know you are being super critical of yourself about following Israel Kamakawiwaole" But then he thought, "No way in hell I can say that name." So then he changed what he said lol.
Your opinion on Iam Tongi is 💯pure🤙🔥 can't wait to see what he sings next, he may surprise the world with his next song choice. Aloha from the islands🤙
Dennis, Louis Armstrong released this song 1967; Braddah Iz Kamakawiwao'ole is a Hawaiian Legend and he took this song and blew it up in 1970's, 1980's, 1990's and very popular in the present day. Iz then took the song and blended it with Somewhere over the rainbow. check out Israel Kamakawiwao'ole cover of this song. Iam was reluctant to sing the song being from Hawaii, he wasn't sure he could do the song as well as Iz.. IZ rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow is used in Movies, Commercials etc. Iz passed away in 1997, he left us way to soon. That said... Iam.. our Hawaiian Supaman is smiling down throwing you the shaka's, he is proud, no doubt. Iz is singing with the angels, and we are privileged to have you sing for us. A hui hou e malama pono! Aloha! Son of Kahoku - you rocked it!
Iam resembles brother Iz in appearance BUT I don't want Iam to past away like how brother Iz did. Iam faikeke. Iam Natural Phenomenon ! LOL All God's best to you !
I think brother Tongi did’t want to sing this song and was critical about this pick. Actually I agree with Tongi and disagree with the judges. In my opinion this rendition was not strong. Yes he sung very well but I’ve already seen that Tongi is the definition of a true artist and not the random show pony you can drag on stage and perform and do a trick. Tongi wants to empathize with the song, the lyrics and the artist. From that perspective it’s impossible to sing the golden gem of louis armstrong (on 18 years old) that is a retrospective song that you can only do justice with a proper dose of live experience. Again you can not ask a young brother on the age of 18th to empathize with reflections on life that youre able to understand in the last cycle of your being. ( With that said we can also debate about the choice of the sam cooke song. But the brother delivered) For what it’s worth, I have only seen one artist untill date that made this song justice by cover and that was queen Areta Franklin after her illness and she was definitely not 18 years old. The fact Tongi was critical about this pick let me resoect this brother even more as the true definition of a artist.

Beautiful voice as always
I guarantee that Iz would be 100% proud of him. No question.
He didn't think he would do it justice because his idol IZ made it very popular
Iam was critical of himself - he didn’t know if he could do the song as the other Hawaiian- Brother Iz K
