I said this on one of the phoning it in episodes but it feels fitting to say here too: Rachel you are doing a PHENOMENAL job at casting for phoning it in!! Every single chef has fit in with the guys’ dynamic SO WELL and it’s so entertaining!!
Rachel has named Claire Saffitz as a dream judge twice now, for WAR and Phoning It In 🙏🏽😭 pleeeease Claire Saffitz come to LA and make all our dreams come true!!!!
The first time I watched phoning it in I imagined Gordon with Terry Crews. Terry has the comedic chops to be the idiot and I’m pretty sure Gordon would be too terrified of Terry to take two pieces of bread and call Terry an idiot sandwich. I just couldn’t figure out who could have been the great comedic duo beside them.
Since Rachel is "the try guys mom" I always thought the guys stressed her out with their shenanigans, but im glad to see Rachel also has her fair chances to stress them out by playing pranks on them xD
Honestly, I like the old judging style way more 😬 it’s so fun to hear the chefs have to come up with something on the spot when they don’t even know what happened in the kitchen.
I love that they're so transparent of how much work goes into making shows like phoning it in entertaining; how much Rachel's brilliance creates the shows.
I would love to see Andrew Lowe and Julien Solomita as a vegan chefs or judges. I know they're TH-camrs, not chefs but their chaotic vegan cooking videos I love so much. Plus food Zach could eat!!
Binging with Babish would be fun to include in one of the cooking shows! I feel like his dry humor would counterbalance hilariously with the Try Guy's chaos humor
I just want to say, I love you guys and I love when you're all together. You guys were my Go to crew during the Pandemic every Tuesday. I also miss Ariel very much. You guys all rock.
I think having Rachel, Matt, Rosana, and Johnny doing WaR but with a fun handicap of some sort would be fun like make X but it must be vegan, bake Y but you can’t use measuring instruments.
Rachel you are right about Iron Chef America. They are given an extra like 20 -30 minutes to make the plates for judging. So on that show they were given "hot" dishes.
I’d love to see Andrew from Binging with Babish as a judge! He’s been doing a ranking series recently that kind of reminds me of the grocery store version of eat the menu
I'm waiting for the day that some of the production crew - including Rachel - become the (one-off) talent for either an episode of Without a Recipe or Phoning It In.
Rachel's description of a middle-of-the-road show is exactly what I want. LOL I don't blame her as a director or as a producer for making the decisions she does, I think it makes the show better! But because of my personality, I would very much love a show where the recipe is super easy and the guys are figuring it out and they have enough quarters and we get to genuinely see the best possible product presented at the end. And that is why she is a producer and I am not.
I wonder if pivoting to a subscription model will curb some of the reality tv-isms. The end goal isn't getting a traditional media deal or clickbait anymore and they acknowledge that the core fanbase doesn't really love that stuff. Most fans just want to see people trying their best and letting that be chaotic enough without producer interference or feigned incompetence. That's less fun for Rachel but probably less stressful for everyone and ultimately more satisfying content for the kind of people who want to subscribe.
Looooopve having Rachel on the show!!!! I know she must be super busy all the time but having her on is always so fun, I love hearing all the behind the scenes stuff!
this episode makes it more evident that we need another try staff video- or a whole mini series!!!! theres been a lot of changes and new people we havent met yet
I feel for that friend trying to make an effort. She deserves so much better! I'm in my 30s, and when my friends started having kids in out late twenties and early 30s, they always made the time to ask about me. I felt kinda lame since I only had work going on, but gosh, the women in my life are just amazing! Also, I think I'm somewhat friendly with all my faux nieces and nephews. It does help a bit that I'm a geek and do love showing up with stickers and bubbles. 😂
Now im interested in that without a recipe turning the table version with rachel and matt, obviously without something like butchering lamb shoulder or something like that 😂 but the idea itself sounds interesting! Or i have another idea, rachel or matt teach them to make something about a specialty of you both, for example matt can teach them about making pasta from scratch? And the guys have to watch his demo only once and then they have to remember and execute it themselves, it doesn't have to be as crazy as without a recipe and can be just a chiller show but still with stakes whether they execute it perfectly or not ❤
i really love the creative brain of rachel and the research team… my brain exploded on the conceptualization down to execution! kudos! now that’s television… 2nd try tv that is!❤🎉
You should get Molly Yeh to judge! She's such a sweet midwest chef. I went to an adult summer camp where she was the head chef. Everything was amazing! She'd have to fly to you though since she's in Minnesota.
YES PLEASE CLAIRE SAFFITZ! i saw y’all used a clip from one of her videos on phoning it in and i thought it would be amazing to have her on the show. she’s so good at giving instructions and can roll in a comedy setting. and she’s got experience with frustrating challenges (gourmet makes)
It's funny that she talks about the development of the show as if they totally made it from nothing - but then happened to settle exactly on the exact format of a challenge that's on Worst Cooks in America each season? haha. It's my favorite challenge on Worst Cooks so I'm happy to have a whole show of it!
Most the chefs I want to see on phoning it in are internet chefs, but I think Josh Weissman, everyone from the OG BA kitchen so Sola, Molly, Claire, Carla, I think Babby Babbish would be great, Uncle Rodger, Lucas Sin, Erin McDowell from Bake It Up A Notch but I also think like Marco Pierre White would be great as an restaurateur type? I'm trying to think of chefs who are professionals and TV trained but also open minded enough to be on a show like Phoning It In because let's be real, it's going to take a very specific personality 😂
Medically speaking (I'm an EMT), there isn't actually a difference between a break and a fracture; they're all just called fractures, but there are different degrees. For an EMT pre-hospital, the most important difference to us is closed vs open fractures, ie whether or not the bone is poking out of the skin.
I don't always actively watch these videos, and today I listened to this video while making dinner. When Matt started the BetterHelp promo, I missed the "this show is sponsored by BetterHelp" part bc my kids were loud and I lowkey thought he was doing a joke promo for Perfect Person. 😄
As a person who feels neglected by my friends, even though I'm known for being very honest and direct, I'd never tell them I feel that way. Like what am I supposed to tell them? "Hey, we were talking for 2 hours and you didn't even ask how I am?" What good would that do? I don't want them to ask because I told them to ask. I want them to ask because they care.
I would still say, tell them! It genuinely might not be that they didn't care. I'm a person who talks a lot without any invitation, including personal stuff, and while I'm trying to get better about it, I still often forget to explicitly ask the other person because I just assume they're like me. That if they wanted to talk about something, they just would, taking the other person's interest as implied. I have many friendships where that is indeed the case, but I know it doesn't work like that with everybody. So if I accidentally made a friend feel neglected in this way that would not mean I don't care, and I would very much appreciate if they told me.
As a Peruvian, here are a few dishes that i think it would do great on Phoning it in or Without a recipe 1. I think lomo saltado it's ok but with tallarines a la huancaína to make it harder 2. I think causa its great bc you can change its interior a lot it can be very creative 3. Carapulcra con sopa seca i think its a good choice (also my fv dish) 4. Arroz con pollo con papa a la huancaína también puede ser una buena opción 5. Ají de pollo/gallina it could work too, specially if they havent cook win hen yet And as for dessert i think you can do tres leches o turrón de doña pepa. The turron could be so fun bc it has a lot of decorations.
im really hoping theyre just stuck in a contract, cause the continued better help sponsorship is really disappointing:( awaiting the next set of videos and hoping to not see that lawsuit wrapped brand
I wonder if they'd ever do a pop up escape the kitchen reusing some of the episode puzzles or tasks for when they go on tour or something...it would be a fun idea
For me... 5:02 the landline phone iz real. But a different phone style coz the quarters doesn’t do anything. They don’t have an airpod for the chefs 9:26 they don’t want the people to know that the guys knew what they were cooking. they cut out that part 😅 .. 12:36 Rachel met Jonny before “Is It Cake” 😮 20:56 they changed the format to put earphones for the actual chefs during judging. (My guess was right! So the episode marissa vs keith episode was the first vid they shot coz they don’t have earphones for the chefs that time
I actually watched a video where they break it down. They do have 2 sets of dishes one is for the show to see how its cooked. The second plate is immediately eaten on commercial breaks. Then they already have the opinions on the food but they have to recreate that for the judging and that plate is always cold for sure. Lmao but they did eat the food hot so they know what to say then.
Wait wait... Jonny said on a TikTok that he ended up in the TryVerse because a friend of him had been scheduled to be a guest judge and couldn't make it, so he recommended Jonny. 🤔
3/3.5 hours... hmmm maybe I shouldn't have made a baked alaska...
😂😂
Jonny! Happy that Rachel found you! Now we really look forward every video you will be in
Omg Jonny could you imagine how Zach would react if he got guy feirri as a surprise for phoning it in?
Jonny ❤
yay jonny
I said this on one of the phoning it in episodes but it feels fitting to say here too: Rachel you are doing a PHENOMENAL job at casting for phoning it in!! Every single chef has fit in with the guys’ dynamic SO WELL and it’s so entertaining!!
I would love to see Roy Choi as a competitor and have to explain his creation to the judges while Zach or Keith whisper sweet nothings into his ear.
Roy Choi needs to be with Jared or even a newer member like Joyce or Ash .. he would lose his mind 😂
Rachel has named Claire Saffitz as a dream judge twice now, for WAR and Phoning It In 🙏🏽😭 pleeeease Claire Saffitz come to LA and make all our dreams come true!!!!
This would be AMAZING!!! Claire would be an amazing regular judge. I also wish they had Duff more than once.
The Try Guys are too chaotic for Claire, which is why it would be hilarious!!!
@lauramipe2955 I dunno, the BA test kitchen could be pretty chaotic at times. Although you're right, probably not as chaotic as the try guys 😆
Yeah but Claire lives in NYC, so logistics might be an issue
Yesss
listen to rachel talk about the shows are one of my faves things
Also sidenote now that I’m listening to it, now this explains why the judging was different in Ep2. Love it
can we just have a moment for pesto and kim being adorable little bros
Kwesi with the salt was 💀💀💀 and now I know Rachel was thoroughly enjoying the moment 😂😂😂
Can you imagine Gordon Ramsey being stuck with Zach, Kwesi, or Jared on phoning it in? 😂
He will cursed so much. That the editors will just have a continous beep sound 😂😂
He would be all the more reason for the the streaming service to exist lol
😂😂
The first time I watched phoning it in I imagined Gordon with Terry Crews. Terry has the comedic chops to be the idiot and I’m pretty sure Gordon would be too terrified of Terry to take two pieces of bread and call Terry an idiot sandwich. I just couldn’t figure out who could have been the great comedic duo beside them.
@@jensmoons a hilarious idea of a hysterical duo. would killllllllll to see that
Wow - Kimbob is being so calm! I loved the Escape the Kitchen pilot! Can't wait for more.
Since Rachel is "the try guys mom" I always thought the guys stressed her out with their shenanigans, but im glad to see Rachel also has her fair chances to stress them out by playing pranks on them xD
Ngl, I stayed just to see if Rachel is ever going to say anything about having two ovens in the try kitchen 😂
Everything's shot in one day??? Craaaazy!!!! Huge kudos to everyone on the team, that's a massive feat to shoot all those episodes in a day
I think she meant one day per episode??
She meant that they shoot one episode in a day. Which is still a lot to plan and prep, especially since WAR is split into multiple days usually.
eugene and matt paired for phoning it in is my dream!!!!!
By who is professional chef 😅
jonny vs johnny was my favourite episode of phoning it in so far. would love to see more of them together
Honestly, I like the old judging style way more 😬 it’s so fun to hear the chefs have to come up with something on the spot when they don’t even know what happened in the kitchen.
i hope matt is still part of the channel even if eugene leaves
Aww, true, I hadn’t even considered that. 😢 Here’s hoping!
agree cant wait for next episode to see
They're all still friends so I guess and hope so
i don't remember where but i'm pretty sure i saw someone confirm that he will be on the podcast still!
They confirmed that matt isnt leaving!!
I love that they're so transparent of how much work goes into making shows like phoning it in entertaining; how much Rachel's brilliance creates the shows.
I 1000% need Rachel and Matt in a WAR special episode. I NEED IT!!!!

I think having Rachel, Matt, Rosana, and Johnny doing WaR but with a fun handicap of some sort would be fun like make X but it must be vegan, bake Y but you can’t use measuring instruments.
Right like the ep on Mystery Wheel!
Bro they're already severely limited in the kitchen w their abilities:')
Rachel you are right about Iron Chef America. They are given an extra like 20 -30 minutes to make the plates for judging. So on that show they were given "hot" dishes.
when becky asked who's rachel's dream guest judge i screamed claire saffitz and when rach said her name AAA YESS MANIFESTING 🙏🙏🙏
I’d love to see Andrew from Binging with Babish as a judge! He’s been doing a ranking series recently that kind of reminds me of the grocery store version of eat the menu
Love hearing Rachel and Nick talk about the BTS of making things! Also why I watch YB's editing videos. Just fun to hear about production
if you ask me who's my favourite try guy I'd say Rachel. she is so cool and amazing
I'm waiting for the day that some of the production crew - including Rachel - become the (one-off) talent for either an episode of Without a Recipe or Phoning It In.
Like a freaky friday - Talent runs the tech, crew becomes talent.
The fact that you all got Mei Lin to judge is still blowing my mind!
Seriously! I just watched TOC V earlier this month 😂
I can’t keep my eyes off Kimbop and Pesto cuddle sleeping on Matt’s lap 😍 so precious 😇
"Peoples behavior when they know they aren't the one cleaning the mess, insane!" Yes Rachel yes common to see as a retail worker or anything similar
Rachel's description of a middle-of-the-road show is exactly what I want. LOL I don't blame her as a director or as a producer for making the decisions she does, I think it makes the show better! I *love* these behind the scenes episodes sooo much! thank you rachel! Edit: oh wow i didn't realize I was this early 😂
Looooopve having Rachel on the show!!!! I know she must be super busy all the time but having her on is always so fun, I love hearing all the behind the scenes stuff!

Rachel has the coolest job I've ever heard of
Rachel and Matt better do their Without a Recipe Advanced Home Bakers special😍😍 So ready!
Rachel is soo talented! I love hearing about behind the scenes of the show. Great podcast to the whole crew! Love everyone’s energy ❤
Now im interested in that without a recipe turning the table version with rachel and matt, obviously without something like butchering lamb shoulder or something like that 😂 but the idea itself sounds interesting! "Ideating" really means something different to me than it does to Rachel
RACHEL!!!!
We've got the full gang! ❤
You should get Molly Yeh to judge! She's such a sweet midwest chef. I went to an adult summer camp where she was the head chef. Everything was amazing! She'd have to fly to you though since she's in Minnesota.
Sohla El-Waylly!! Justin Pichetrungsi from Anajak Thai (LA). Alvin Cailan (LA). Nico de Leon from Lasita (LA). Niki Nakayama (LA).
RIP bon appetit test kitchen you would've loved the Phoning It In chaos 😔
I know, I want to see Claire and Brad go head to head on Phoning It In. 😭
Need more pups on the podcast.
Oh I am SO excited for more Escape the Kitchen!

I was so happy to see Mei Lin! Great job getting her to participate

Phoning it in is absolutely my favourite show on youtube ❤
My dream chef for Phoning it In would be Iron Chef Dad - Susur Lee. Mei Lin was my other dream chef and I'm so glad that came true!! Love her.
Yes! I noticed the switch of them ACTUALLY being in a different room and am happy it happened/was confirmed
Found Maggie's outfit on Amazon, it's SO CUTE! And love the colour selection.
Rachel is a queen! And more cooking with Jared! ❤😂🎉
Omg, time went by so fast! Did not even feel like 1 hour.
Also, can't forget about Rachel during her pageant days, standing up for lgbtq+ rights❤
LOVE these behind the scenes podcasts. I need them monthly, just saying 😂
Brad Leone would be an amazing chef on Phoning It In
Most the chefs I want to see on phoning it in are internet chefs, but I think Josh Weissman, everyone from the OG BA kitchen so Sola, Molly, Claire, Carla, I think Babby Babbish would be great, Uncle Rodger, Lucas Sin, Erin McDowell from Bake It Up A Notch but I also think like Marco Pierre White would be great as an restaurateur type?

exactly what I needed rn
I want a job like Rachel’s so bad 😫😭 I wish I would have known it was a possibility when I was in college
I wonder if they'd ever do a pop up escape the kitchen reusing some of the episode puzzles or tasks for when they go on tour or something...it would be a fun idea
Is Matt staying on You Can Sit With Us?
i hope they rethink their sponsorship agreetment with betterhelp
1:40 'Performed Incompetence' should've been the new company name instead of 2nd Try lol
so excited whenever I see Rachel in the thumbnail!
For me...
5:02 the landline phone iz real. But a different phone style coz the quarters doesn’t do anything. They don’t have an airpod for the chefs
9:26 they don’t want the people to know that the guys knew what they were cooking. they cut out that part 😅 ..

Fracture and break are the same thing! Fissure is less than a break
I got so distracted by the drama going on between Pesto and Kimbop and Matt trying to play mediator for them, like whats going on there
3:28 A wild Kimbop appears! Maybe Eugene’s there too❤ coz Kimbop and Pesto being there would be chaotic while Matt on the pod
I actually watched a video where they break it down. They do have 2 sets of dishes one is for the show to see how its cooked. The second plate is immediately eaten on commercial breaks. Then they already have the opinions on the food but they have to recreate that for the judging and that plate is always cold for sure. Whatever they’re paying Rachel, it isn’t enough.
Wait wait... Jonny said on a TikTok that he ended up in the TryVerse because a friend of him had been scheduled to be a guest judge and couldn't make it, so he recommended Jonny. 🤔
Chef Kush from Sorted Food TH-cam channel would be a fun chef to have on.
Love him, but he'd be so critical 😂
He was a guest on Sorted Food's new interview podcast and was SO INTERESTING!
That 'Bye' harmony
Ben and Kush from SortedFood would be fun head to head!
Is Matt still on the pod cast after Eugene announcement??????
Yes. One of the try staff, Cailyn, confirmed it on the discord
The first time I read A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison I read it in one day. Couldn’t put it down.
The puppies!!!
You should also check out Erin Jeanne McDowell and Jessie Sheehan as potential guest judges.
As for a Peruvian dish, alfajores! My fave cookie of all time
A season theme of cultural dishes would be interesting!!
I was surprised to see that you can do t with us has not been added to 2nd try!
Are you planning to put podcasts over there as well as TH-cam?
DID I HEAR GARRICK IS GONNA BE ON ESCAPE THE KITCHEN??? HUGE
I certainly don’t know her but I did name my cat after Claire Saffitz (Claire Catffitz)
Can we please have more Rachel pods
I would want Alton Brown!!! As a judge or on phoning it in
That would be awesome! Since Alton is a big name for Food Network I don’t know if his contract would allow him to be on it though.
I think Matty Matheson would have such crazy vibes with the Try Guys cast!
Molly Baz lives in LA now.
But you guys should get Antonia Lofaso.
I'm living for a peruvian without a recipe
I'm really looking forward to escape the kitchen! It's such a fun concept
