Unless you are completely sold on either of the current limited characters, I recommend just saving in patch 1.0.
1.0 banners will be the first to rerun, and the practice of saving will form a better habit than starting off your time with the game visiting the gacha everytime you can.
In addition, the 'shiny new toy' effect is real. Let the base characters satisfy that urge during 1.0. Then once a brand new character is drip marketed that you really want, you can guarantee a copy of them.

That can back fire quickly tho if your not careful that’s why I said there’s a balance between getting characters you like and also getting characters that can support the characters that you like

People say that for every single gacha game but its a si-op. Nobody is happy after wasting their pulls on a character that gets powercrept (the first two limited characters in any gacha game).
So no, don’t pull for who you like, because you wont like them when the newer cooler stronger chars come out later. Have patience.

I perfectly understand your stated point of view, I did the same on HSR with Ruan Mei, I'm not really a fan of the character but I played a lot around the break gameplay, so I pulled her to improve the gameplay, and now that a meta is in place with Firefly and the MC around the break, I am very happy to have her, even if I don't like her too much even today...

It's the opposite for me! I love firefly but am not a fan of ruan mei. I'll just use asta or bronya to support her. It will still let me clear the content - i'll just have to invest in my favorites more!
Definitely advice I couldve used when starting star rail, I ended up using all my starting pulls on characters that just don't work that well together just bc I liked them 😭😭

As someone who used to pull for every single character, I can confirm going for every character that you like the look of, is a bad, bad idea. For many reasons, but for me personally, in the past whenever I liked the look of a character, pulled for them, then next half of the patch came out, liked the character, pulled for them, and very quickly my money and pulls were gone.
It’s so hard. So hard to skip characters you like the look of - it’s something I’m struggling with till this day.
You gotta stop and take a moment to realize it’s not worth it sometimes
it is important to know how to build proper team with available characters first on top of favoritism, I agree about this too as F2P player.

I totally understand yes. Especially early game!!!! Go for who helps you get through the content as a starter, then pull whoever you like. I pulled Jing Yuan in hsr not because i loved him, but I needed a dps to do the job after losing on seele's banner. Now one year later, I can clear almost all content simply by having pulled a mix of characters I love (Kafka, Black swan, Acheron, upcoming Jade & Jiaoqui) and characters that improve my account (Huo huo & aventurine). Now ofcourse pulling sparkle or ruan mei would add more to my acc than Jade, but since I'm already late game with easy clears up until at least moc 11 etc (last floors are a gamble lmao), I 100% go for characters I love.
I do have a friend that only pulled for characters they liked from the start... They can't even pass the story bosses now.

This is very true u guys. I came from genshin impact, and i did it myself, pull my favorite character Raiden shogun 1st then build my team around her, it was super fun. You guys should do the same here, pull your favorite character 1st, then pull for the 2 best characters that will best synergize and support that character!

I checked all the future agents and the only two that clicked for me are Ellen and Miyabi.Not knowing when Miyabi comes is a big issue on deciding.

Guess it really depends on how balls deep you wanna get in the endgame stuff.
I already do a ton of min maxing on Genshin, HSR, and Wuwa. I dont think I wanna stress over min maxing on another gacha which is why I'm gonna go the casual route.
Of course you'll get more pulls when you clear hard content. But it's usually not a lot.

Most F2P players don't really care about the endgame, more precisely about MoC 11-12 or Pure Fiction 3-4, etc. Most regular "players" will only play the story content and events, and they don't care much more. They have fun for a few minutes a day, I would be very surprised if future story chapters could not be played with only A agents with a finger in their nose :D
So, for most players, it's pretty good advice, just pull whatever character you like. The problem is more when I like each one :D
This advice isn't really that good for the minority of endgame players. Personally, I plan to focus only on one or two factions, I will ignore the rest, I don't care if I beat the top of the endgame, I will enjoy the story and the characters.

man I wish I would've got this video earlier. I got Ellen and I don't like her playstyle at all. Maybe is me but I don't like running away from the monster when I have to burst him down.includin her sprint in the combo is so weird and an extra action that could've just be something else. But yea, I get it, it's a shark and that's how they attack.
I know its not ZZZ related but in WuWa, I won the 50/50 on jinshi in 50 pulls as shes my desired character. Probably wont pull any more favorites any time soon cuz my luck as F2P has run out, though I can recover. Pulling for characters I dont like mindset might be good to focus on.

Yeah, you absolutely cannot just pull whoever you like all the time. It's a balance of favoritism and strength, pull for you're favorite and then pull for the supports/Dps that makes them shine the most and yeah, you're favorite doesn't have to be a dps and if so, them make them the strongest support they can be within your capabilities and get the dps the best fit with

I honestly still think that you should pull for character that you like and not meta. Hoyo games are very casual that I have never felt the pressure to pull for anyone over my 4 years of playing their games. The only problem is they like “create hard contents” and use new characters as “solutions”, which will trivialize the hard content. So sometimes you will struggle a bit if you don’t pull, but not impossible. Don’t force yourself to this marketing tatics, just see a character, whether gameplay or design, and make your decisions.
But ofc, at the end of the day, this is a single player experience so feel free to pull whatever makes you enjoy the game, whether meta or aesthetically pleasing.
I would say yes and no, there are many people in star rail for example who are these casuals you speak of and they can’t even beat the story boss for Aventurine cause they only pulled characters they “like”. If you don’t get at least one or two characters that can help out your favorites in the long run then you will struggle. Even in genshin many casuals are just giving up on the aybss now cause the old characters are just not keeping up anymore unless it’s a specific few. And again back to star rail, the amount of people who are STRUGGLING is crazy because they didn’t pull a Ruan Mei or a sparkle or a fu xuan or a aventurine. I’ve seen and have even had others here in the comment section have friends just quit because their accounts were so far behind because they only pulled characters they “like”, maybe not for you but it’s quite apparent the average player will need at least a couple good units just to get by long term and this good units can help support the characters they like the most!
This is a good advice because honestly even if you don't have a good support character for your favorite character then your gameplay will be so doomed and end up made you bored at the game way more.
Welp rn i got pretty lucky with Ellen (20 pity :D), ngl i love her so much and by far no one can caught my attention now.

i choose to pull ellen joe biden because i know the next few character is going to be in the police, and that's ALOT of character to pull to build a police team so I just decided to skip them all. this give me resources i can bank for a couple of month before I start pulling again. also since I got the wolfman, ellen team is available straight of the bat. sometime you have to read the gacha god, how the standard banner goes is a good hint on where to invest... =)

Yo, it always depends! For people who are going to "Like almost everybody", they should really consider investing money into the game because.... that's the name of the game, it's a GACHA, it requires gambling for the characters if one wants to have most of them 🤣
Remember: "Gacha" literally means GAMBLING... and the casino is ALWAYS rigged. So i don't count on luck, in fact i cound on me getting as unlucky as it gets 🤣 and i don't get hung up on getting everyone, i enter those games with the mindset of "What i get is what i get!" If i end up missing some characters, so be it, maybe i get them randomly a couple months later. It's happening to me tons in other gachas :P
It's probably a good thing that I haven't felt much connection to any of the characters yet. I did the standard pulls and got Koleda, Anton, Ben, and Lucy and I've been happy with them so far. Ellen looks good and all, but not enough to sacrifice my wallet for.
Hoping for a "must have" waifu somewhere down the line.

Iv been playing gacha since FGO I feel you need to strike a balance between what you "want" and what you "need" specially if your favorites aren't top dog meta. Yeah waifu over meta but you need enough meta to be able to farm all the rewards so you can get the waifu in the future so sometimes you gotta bite the bullet with a character you don't like. Im just gonna cite Ruan Mei in HSR as an example... don't like the character but she make stuff happen.

honestly, the game is not very hard. just pull the charactet you like. what if you dont S rank everything, what if you team comp didnt do "the most damage", just pull what you like and play what you like. hell, play with 3 damage character, or 3 support if you wanted. you will still clear contents. dont think too hard about it.
You are so WRONG, we are finally getting to the end stages of shiyu defense and the game gets Soooo much harder. People were completely wrong about the game bending easy all the time
@@KetteiThe7th_ actually, its getting harder because you are under level. the end of shiyu defense enemies level are around 50,60,and 70. most f2p right now should be at 30,40 max. of course it will be hard. once you get to the same level as the stage enemies, it will be much easier.
You can’t get the same level cause the harder enemies are level 70, and I’ve heard rumors their gonna add level 80. Meaning you’re always going to be doing less damage than you should because of the level difference. Not bringing proper teams will completely gut your damage
@@KetteiThe7th_ yeh, they gated character level with accounts level. but thats ok, eventually accounts level will catch up with the endgame and you will fight enemies with 10 levels gap at most. so even if you have a bad team, you can still clear contents, just not as fast
By all means you can show me in the future you clearing with a bad team, when you do I’ll believe you that bad teams can clear with a S rank rating every time. But rn I don’t think that’s possible with bad teams. Maybe they can clear with an A or B clear but not an S

Pulling for the characters you like THE MOST is definitely the most important thing, be it for personality reasons or for gameplay reasons. But as you said, if someone tries to just get every single character, they'll eventually fail unless they've got Aventurine levels of luck.

@KetteiThe7th_ I just struggle to see the appeal sometimes. This is like the fourth or fifth Gatcha I've tried, and it's always the same song and dance.
I'd feel less shitty if I got someone I liked, but I'm close to running out of free pulls and I didn't even get my third or fourth most wanted character. You guys are definitely built different if you can tolerate this game after game. Good video though. I'll keep it in mind if I ever try out another one.

This will be my first time playing a gacha on release. Building an account from Day 1 of a games lifecycle has always interested me. You just gotta accept the fact that you won't get every character you want.

You can save up for an S rank weapon in the shop.
Especially since hoyo is not known to be a generous company so you definitely need to be very careful about who you pull for 😃
Maybe Genshin, but Honkai Impact and HSR is generous, unless you are one of those who pull for every new character, I play all of GI, HI3rd and HSR, in Honkai impact you can get the new characters every patch with what you get as f2p, only if you want to be competitive you need a bit more investment or luck to get the equipment, same in HSR unless you want everything then you really need money, but if you only pull for some characters then you are clear with the currency, all gachas are similar in that the characters can be good with f2p weapons or equipment but if you really want to be competitive. In every gacha you will need exclusive weapons or duples of the charactep

You can always run Lycaon in teams other than Mono-Ice.
For instance: Corin-Lycaon-Flex
I think you could just pull Zhu Yuan. For teams Corin/Lycaon/Soukaku and Zhu Yuan/Nicole/Anby could work.
Remember Zhu Yuan will likely get better in the future when they release more characters that can work with her.
I agree pulling who you like is bad advice in general at least until you get enough meta units too the point where you can comfortably pull whoever you want
Hmmm I that’s a statement I agree and disagree with! I think because supports are so strong in these games you can pull any DPS you like and the supports can usually carry you thru the endgame!
@@KetteiThe7th_ yeah true but like for example I have a guy that is helping me with my hsr account and I am now pulling meta units and able too get through most content cause of it but that’s cause hsr is very hardcore meta imo but zenless like they said will be low barrier too entry and high skill ceiling so I think it terms of its combat we won’t see it full potential until a bit later when they add even more end game modes which they have already said they will
