I wish we would have heard Castiel saying "Hello, Dean" on the phone in the car, as Dean's face goes from darkness to light. Just for that extra touch of warmth and nostalgia.
Depressed Dean is always heartbreaking. In the past whenever they lost someone there was always a big bad to kill so Dean could direct his anger towards that and then grieve after or during taking the big bad down. That was the case with John, Bobby, Kevin and Charlie. But here there is no big bad so Dean's anger is just random and now its burned out and Dean is left to deal with Cas, Mary and Crowley's death, plus this brings back all the issues with the others they've lost and Dean can't find meaning in anything anymore. Billie told him he was needed and he doesn't care. Honestly I don't think Dean could've pulled himself out of this if Cas hadn't called.
The loved the whole awkward stripper bit! Its nice that Sam is trying to lift Dean's spirts (and with strippers no less) but its funny how he fails and making the suggestion seem casual.
I agree with your suggestion for the end of this episode. I really think ending it with Dean doing "Cas?" in the car would have been much better. Actually, I think it would have been cool if we hadn't seen Cas at all yet this season, making it a shock to the audience as well as to Dean and Sam that he might be alive. Next episode could then start with a flashback where we see how Cas woke and got out, following his POV to him picking up the phone, hearing what he said to Dean. Then cut to present day, maybe to where they reunite, or to the brothers on their way.
@@marielgc9304 Not sure I understand you point? Is that an arguement for why they couldn't have structured the scenes differently? I think ending with Dean going "Cas?", emphasis on Dean's reaction, end of episode, followed by the next episode starting with a flashback to how Cas woke in the Empty, how he got out, and him making the call would work nicely. Then it could cut to where they meet at the phone box, and continue exactly as is now. I think they could have done that without losing a single scene, but to me it would feel more impactful.
I had such a hard time getting into this season, I was going through chemo and did not have a good prognosis and I really wanted my show to help me escape and cheer me up. At first I thought this might be a ghostfacer type one, but I ended up turning to a different show and caught this episode later on season rewatch. I suppose it had its moments.
@@patrickmcguire7896 thank you. I was lucky enough to have been blessed with a miracle and was able to escape death (hmm maybe more like my boys than I thought) and enjoy the rest of the series :)
In this episode, Dean died while Cas was already on the way to earth by the end of the last episode, The Big Empty ... If Dean remained dead (omg!) and Cas returned back to earth not knowing that Dean chose to remain dead rather than be resurrected ... the implications of this scenario as presented by the blue light cross behind Dean at the phone booth scene with the reunion with Cas - that blue neon light cross resembling the set/lighting design of the popular movie with Claire Danes and Leo DiCaprio.** ... the parallel of this particular setup of one character choosing death while not knowing that the other was alive but for all intent and purposes appeared dead to the former - to that movie ... ... and the cinematic choice by our show's set/lighting design team in invoking that similarity in the reunion scene, by choosing that lighting design, I can't even believe they did that ... coincidence? not in my opinion, lol ... ** PS: For anyone that doesn't get the connection or the movie, it was Romeo + Juliet (1996)
Annnnd Billie's back.. woohoo! Set dec got a new room to play with.. Death's reading room.. kind of a full episode.. MOTW and Billie, and Sam reading reviews on a strip club.. All the bacon...and Cas .. my favorite line from this one.. Oh God...Dean Winchester's in the veil.

When Dean is depressed and has his talks, always spitting bars and emotional lines 😅❤
That scene between Dean & Billie always gets me, yet alone the ending. Both shattering and healing...
Been waiting for you to get to the Billie as THE Death reveal
Cas is back!! Dean got his win!! The scene between Dean and Billie is also amazing it's cool seeing deaths "reading room"
I'm glad they brought her back as death cuz she has an awesome presence on the show

But then we wouldn't have the whole Romeo & Juliette reference
@@marielgc9304 That would just be in the following episode.
@@ancatdal But the whole I just tried to una live myself after you came back and I didn't noticed is in just one episode

Sorry you had to go through chemo
Yeah I love this show but it doesn't always leave you feeling positive

Thanatos is death in Greek.
The Reunion.
You forget the SPN motto- no chick flick moments!
The most ironic line of dialog in TV history.
