This song still gets me, chills and tears...This movie was actually about my teacher "Miss J" (Johnson) and our Academy class in 89-92. We grew up in East Palo Alto, CA in the heart of the Yay Area, aka "Small town Cemetery" (always bad but murder capital in 1992) and got bussed to Belmont ("white" neighborhood) Carlmont HS because our HS in EPA had been shut down... My teacher wrote a book called "My Posse Dont Do Homework" and Michelle Pfieffer read the book and wanted to make a movie. Special shout out to Miss J, I def wouldn't have lived thru HS or be alive today if wasn't for her! Thank you, love your reactions Asia & BJ... One Love!

Great movie…. Dangerous Minds. 1995. Remember this is a movie soundtrack. Orchestra, yes, the arrangement is studio symphonic because they played it in the movie. This is old school rap. Coolio was the bomb. Special shout out to L.V., singing the chorus. And…. I loved his hair. Everyone has their own style. Actually once you get passed the hair, his signature is ground breaking rap. No swearing, no threats, no sex. Just amazing story telling. Actress is Michelle Pfeifer … you know, Bruno Mars, “Michelle Pfeifer, that white gold”.

Coolio found out Michelle Pfeiffer was coming to do this video and he was very nervous but LOVED her after they did this. They stayed in contact and she was so sad when Coolio passed away. I love this movie. “ There are NO VICTIMS IN THIS CLASSROOM “. It was based on a book called My homies don’t do homework. The lady Michelle played really changed her students lives by showing that sometimes people really do care and want to see you succeed in life. In the movie she would show up at the student’s houses to introduce herself to their parents and gave positive remarks about her students to their parents. Asia, do yourself a favor and watch this movie. It’s so good, promise 😊

It was based on true story and some factual events were portrayed and some changed when reenacted. A lot of us were portrayed but they only used our last name and some of us were combined and depicted as 1 person in the movie. I thought it was so much softer than our reality of living thru that time, but there is no way to actually put it in a movie. Only us growing up in East Palo Alto and lucky enough to have make it thru thos years alive will ever truly know what it was really like.

That choir is a killer, the song is great storytelling. Ipersonally don't listen to too much Rap. More of an R&B, Disco and pretty much any dance music. A Mac 10 is a Machine pistol it fires lots of bullets very fast. i agree this song was a smash at the time. Saw the movie. Having grown up in Brookly's East New York section in the late 50's, early 60's. The lyrics make a lot of sense. Great song, never get tired of it.

Asia and BJ,THANKS FOR YOUR REACTION VIDEO! R.I.P. COOLIO ! I still from time to time groove to "GANGSTA'S PARADISE ". This song I sang a lot back in 1995 because I was a 24 yr. old junkie and Crackhead.. So, Coolio's lyrics, especially the 1st line resonated with me,"As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I take a look at my life and realize there's nothing left...." Addiction made me a slave and I lost everything!Including, my son (5 yrs old at the time) and my daughter (3 yrs old at the time). "Death ain't nothin' but a heartbeat away..." "I'm 23 now but will I live to see 24. The way things are goin' I don't know.." "If THEY can't understand, how can THEY reach me..." POWERFUL LYRICS! I THANK YOU FOR THIS GIFT!This song has a very sentimental value to me. I have been in recovery from Crack and heroin since 2004;alcohol since 2011. I SHOULD'VE BEEN DEAD YEEEARS AGO! GOD was definitely watching over me! Now,my mission is to help those strugglin' with addiction/ alcoholism. May Coolio have a FANTASTIC VOYAGE TO THE GANGSTA'S PARADISE IN HEAVEN. SHAKA ZULU! ✌😥

Classic tune. It's been used in a ton of movies. A little factoid Background and writing. The artists co-wrote the song with their producer Doug Rasheed, with Stevie Wonder receiving writing credits for the sampling of his song "Pastime Paradise" from his album Songs in the Key of Life.

I'll admit, when this movie and song came out, it helped me understand how things in the inner city could lead kids to live such a lifestyle, even though they may not have wanted to. As a early 20s white guy from the rural south it made a big impact and I love the song because it tugs on my heart.

That's super dope that you were able to get that transformative message from the artistry in the movie & song. The musicality in this song, combined with Coolio's dead serious & intense delivery of how he says the lyrics as he raps them, absolutely classic song in rap music history.

A lot of people make fun of the "white savior" trope of Dangerous Minds, except that they fail to realize that this was actually based on a true story. A former Marine who was a highly praised teacher at an affluent school actually changed a whole inner-city school when they were brought in as a teacher... Partly by listening to the students, and the community. And then trying to make everyone who were "pillars of the community" (the white people in power), who weren't listening before, understand this was a product of cyclic violence, systemic racism, and indoctrination.

I saw Dangerous minds a long ass time ago - now I need to go back and watch it. I use to love Michelle Pfeiffer; she was also in Scarface.

Please, Please - Leon Russell live playing "Jumpin Jack Flash" with George Harrison, Clapton, Ringo Starr!!!. This is the kind of music you both LOVE!!! It's from the concert for Bangladesh - first major rock benefit in 1971. The entire video is on the other site that posts videos. Leon at 55:30 minutes in

I don't think you two have reacted to Boz Scaggs. In 1976 he released his "Silk Degrees" album which contains numerous great songs. I believe both of you will really enough his music which ranges from r&b to jazz rock. The song "Lowdown" won the Grammy for best R&B song for 1976 and would be a good introduction to Boz Scaggs.

Actually the music is from Stevie Wonder's song "Past Time Paradise" from his album Songs In The Keys of Life. Also The song from Will Smith's movie The Wild Wild West the music is from the song "I Wish" from the same album.

Coolio's greatest hit. Great reaction! 👍🏿 Fun fact: Coolio is my 2nd cousin. His mother was my granny's (my dad's mom) younger sister; the 4th of 9 children. He's mostly doing his thing overseas now.
