I was 17 when this album dropped, and it was F&%$#@g huge! This was playing everywhere, took the world by storm. What a classic album. Sippin' Whiskey, smokin' a little somthin' and Memories, Memories, Memories.
As much as I loved the 80s and growing up as a kid in the 80s, being in high school and college in the early to mid 90s was a really fun time. So many good songs. I loved this album.
Best years of hip hop were the late 80's and early 90's which happened to be my high school years. West coast hip hop was dominated by N.W.A., Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, & Eazy E. Snoop got on the scene in '92 with the hit "Deep Cover" and "Nuthin' But A G-Thang.
I’m a white Swedish boy who used to play this song in the suburbs of Stockholm in the 90’s. There is no excuse to not know this song if you’re an american ;)
First 5 albums ever bought: 1. Dr. Dre - The chronic 2. Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle (a lot of german record stores didn't even have a rap section back then, Snoops album was sold out for a week, I remember calling about 15 different stores and all I got was annoyed reactions because of all the other ppl who had called before.) 3. Outkast - southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (the way Andre switches his flow on "player's ball"...) 4. Nas - It was written (no stupid pictures inside the booklet but lyrics to every song on the album, very useful to a non english speaker!) 5. Fugees - The score (1st rap album ever to reach #1 in germany and "killing me softly" 1st ever #1 single by a rap group.) Nobody asked me but "nuthin but a g thang" always takes me down memory lane 😁 And I think the pioneers deserve much more credit for the worldwide phenomenon rap music became.
36 Chambers was released (I think) in 93 if I remember..still rocking with it in 2022. “Ain’t No Thang” was my favorite on Southernplayalisticaddilacmuzik.
Dre and Snoop brought that West Coast sound and changed it all. I grew up on Grandmaster Flash and Big Daddy Kane (later), then the Beastie Boys and NWA. When they dropped that sound, everybody heard it. Still bumping it. Have a great day, young folk. Lol
Yes i was 19yrs old man this whole album was my shit. Was bumping this dam near everyday while I was in the navy. Shout to Norfork VA. Its your boy from the CHI.
As a Chicago suburban teenager in the early 90’s, The Chronic and Tha Doggfather were staples in our playlist while being punk teenagers and wreaking havoc 🤷🏻♂️.
This entire album is a classic. Man this takes me back to cruisin' on Sunday night in the minitruck with the 15's in the back slammin the bass. I was in my 20's when this came out and I still have that cassette.
I was in 10th grade when this came out. This was a legendary album. So many parties I went to was bumpin this . I still know every word to most of the songs on the album
This is more importantly simply Southern California culture not just hip-hop culture, it was like this before the rest of the world seen it, and its still the same to this day. These songs still play on the radio every single day out here. 93.5 KDay "Hip-Hop Back In The Day" . LA County to Riverside County all day.
Took me back when Hip Hop is RAW! Thanks for sharing the memories. I reccomend "Deep Cover" by Dr. Dre and Snoop, "You gots to chill" by EPMD, " I ain't no joke" by Eric B and Rakim, F... tha Police by NWA and "The Message" by Grand Master Flash and Furious 5. Thanks!
Warren G in there as well... Came out, the year I graduated... jus turned 18! I'm a 70's baby! Grew up in the 80's started life in the 90's... #Memories

Real hood picnic...been to a few..dont use too much mayo in your potato salad and season it. Grew up in the 70s in a very diverse neighborhood beside projects. I love it! But the teal parties with rap started in the late 80s. Before, it was totally like Rappers Delight.
Launched a huge trend in lowriders across the country at that time. Props for doing the long version of the video. The Chronic is a masterpiece from beginning to end.
Late to respond to this one and I don't want to believe ya'll haven't heard this before. But I do, because it's you! A couple of true, always honest, always fun reactors. Guess I just didn't want to admit to myself how old I was, lol. Love you guys. Keep up the great work!
I'm Snoop's age and I remember this dude from E. St. Louis in my dorm sophmore year having a garbage bag full of weed and Snoop's 1st album before anyone else had it.
I actually got invited to a party once in 1991 and the fridge was filled to the top with 40 ounce Colt 45’s, just like in the video and they were ice cold.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The dude in the passenger seat & the 1 who gets the 40 from the fridge is The D.O.C. His album dropped in '89 & was/ is still a CLASSIC. He's actually the 1 to convince Dre to release his own album & coached Snoop on his flow. His career was basically a grand opening/ grand closing type of deal cause he was in a bad car accident the same year his album dropped & permanently lost his voice (he sounds like he's being choked). Check out The D.O.C - 'It's Funky Enough,', 'The Formula', 'The Doc & The Doctor' (Video for all 3) then The Grand Finale (there's no video for that track.
This is Snoop at 19! To think this shy guy who'd never quite look the camera in almost all their earlier MV is the very same outgoing Snoop everyone knows today!
