    I've done a handful of C-10 fleetsides to short bed conversations.
    I've always Z-notched the frame when shorting.
    otherwise cool build, happy sanding.

    Its seems that all the haters are jealous or something becuase they never did a project this advanced and they only base their knowledge on watching fake tv shows (builders) think they could do better. Make your own videos and show us whats up. I know their is alot of talent that went in to that. Bad azz job my hat goes off to u.

    Wanting to do a "double extended" truck cab and a 10 ft long bed conversion to my old 94 F-150 ext cab short bed. What I mean by double extended is cutting the back end off of another old 87-97 F-Series and having it welded up to my existing ext cab (pretty much like a crew cab but with no rear doors). On top of all that, the truck IS indeed going to be put to heavy work so I am gonna need the frame to be stout (boxed and plated if you can do that). How much would that all stuff cost?

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jorge m the truck to stretch, a 4 door cab with doors, all interior minus a dash, the seats, and an extra head liner(#3) and extra carpet(#3) to match. We will furnish the labor + driveshaft, frame, frame wiring, fuel lines, brake lines, paint to blend.

    I'm building a 79 k30 dually 6 door, with working tandem axle. I'm curious why you didnt just get a longer driveshaft made? And did you balance it?

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MVP11489 with a driveshaft you can only go so far before it becomes a rubber band at 40 mph. You have to do a two piece setup for the length. And yes the shaft is balanced.

    Would have done a different cut on the frame to be stronger, but otherwise pretty sweet, how is that driveshaft doing? How did you keep it in phase?

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      16driver16 what kind of cut would you have done to make it stronger that a certified welder wouldn't have done? Driveshaft is fine and it built for the truck.

    • @16driver16
      @16driver16 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hunter Maxey my step dad always did a z or a diagonal cut when stretching logging trailers there more weld there for more strength and somethijng about the direction of sheer force I don't know exactly... no driveshaft vibes? Just want to know how the jig I saw it in was keeping it straight

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a driveshaft is done right there are no vibrations. And most people in the custom industry only cut on diagonal if it's a small piece and that's to have more welding area. As in the case of our large frame there was plenty of area to weld to but if you weld to much on the frame you can over heat the metal and that will lead to other problems down the road. A certified welder did our frames

    • @AVB2
      @AVB2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3M makes a body panel adhesive (08115) that is as strong as a weld believe it or not. Detroit has used it for years. Open your hood and you will see that the skin of the hood is not welded to the frame, it is glued. Have you ever heard of the skin of a hood flying off the frame? Me either. The adhesive is very expensive (about $100.00 for the adhesive cartridge and an additional $100.00 for the special gun to put the cartridge in) but it is VERY strong and since there is no heat like you would get with welding, it won't warp the thin sheet metal like this roof patch.

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Reed measure the widest part of the door being added. I believe on this year that is around “37-1/4 inches”. Also you can use a frame section from another truck frame @ a junk yard has them usually or marketplace as the new frame section being added. Putting the new section in We did a butt joint with a set of 16-18 inch wide stitch plates on the inside of the frame centered over the cut area after it was welded then ground these were welded over. We have also used a “frame in a frame” the inside section sticks past the cut section about 6-12 inches. If you need any advice let me know.

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jr Bearden
      The “Z-notch”, you mentioned, is a method that is ONLY used on small frames to increase the welding area.
      The heat put into the frame from a “z-notch” would actually weaken the frames of this size. The trucks we build are used. Usually pulling a 6k empty trailer is a very light load.
      This truck in specific pulled 10k+ on the rear hitch on a haul over 6 hours shortly after it was built. Has pulled many larger loads on Goosenecks since then. The paint has never cracked in 3 years.

      Gabriel if your referring to the extra length it's basically like drive a long wheelbase. It's parked in normal spots at Walmarts, gas stations, and movie theaters all the time. The turn radius is basically the same as well.

    Frame should be "Z" notched not straight cut.....

    • @huntermaxey
      @huntermaxey  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      gerard mcauliffe why do you feel it should be "Z" notched? In your opinion

    • @gerardmcauliffe5340
      @gerardmcauliffe5340 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      a "z" notch , less chance of cracking along the weld line. stress failure will occur much easier on a straight line, of course u also add fish mouth plates on the both sides of the frame when u "z" notch.... don't take my word for it .... if you want a more technical explanation just google it...

      All the added heat from that long of a weld will hurt the frame more than do it any good. The back side of our frame does have 1/4 stitch plates weld a foot each side of the weld on the inside of the frame to keep the clean factory look of the truck. We are also on a frame 8 inch tall frame with plenty of surface but a "z" notch is mostly used on your smaller framed vehicles to get more surface area to weld.

      any professional welder would know how to space out his welds to prevent excessive heat build up + one or 2 other tricks......."z" notches are used on all size frames its a much safer way in patching a frame back together.... again don"t take my word for it...

      F diesel what an original comment. I don't guess you keep up with the custom world. But we're better than DB in the part that we build them and don't have to send them out to be built by a third party. Do your research

      Cummins diesel This kind of work kas been around a long time, knew somebody who had this done with a mid 90's Crew Cab/Long Bed Chevy 2500 20 years ago, likely before the Diesel Brothers knew each other, let alone had their shop and show. That truck was so long that it took 2 parking spots, end to end to dock the thing. It's probably long gone by now, last time I saw it, it had a baaaad case of "swayback", right about where the bed and cab met.

      No, it needs the sounds of the work being performed.
      Craptastic license free Muzak ruins more videos that simple silence or the actual sounds happening in the videos ever do.
