    just picked up this lens, i am very impressed. accurate autofocus, long travel path and the distance scale for manual focus, sharp, and great close up performance. i also see why 35mm is your favorite focal length, its brilliant for all purposes!

    Hi Chris, My camera is APS-C sensor (7D) and I would like to have a street lens. So I am considering this lens (used) or EF-S STM 24mm.
    What should the best for my camera?

    Hi Chris, I am looking to get a prime for my Canon SL1 and I was wondering if you recommended the 35mm f/2 or the 28mm f/1.8. Thank you so much for your help!

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nicolette Doan Watch my reviews of those lenses, and you'll see! It might be worth saving up for the Canon 35mm f/2 IS USM, or the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC which is coming soon.

    hi, is this still worth buying than the latest canon 35mm? Just traded my 85mm with this old version of 35mm. worth it? Bought the 85mm second hand tho for about the same price of the 35mm. Good deal?

    • @christopherfrost

      I haven't tried the new 35mm lens but I hear it's great and heavily overpriced. As for whether /this/ lens is any good - take a look at the video

    Having re-viewed this test again after some year I can only say: If you want to travel light and/or don't want gear on your that screams "photographer" (and/or want to save some money) consider buying this one and some small prime lenses instead of a bulkier and more expensive 24-70 lens. This lens could then be part of your carry around kit! (I do own two 24-70 lenses, but oftentimes I find myself just going out with some small primes -- plus there simply isn't any 24-70 f 2.0 on the market). If you just want to use 35mm though, you should perhaps look elsewhere...

    • @dusan8154
      @dusan8154 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is 24-70mm f/2 on the market.

    I have the 40mm stm. Should I still buy this lens for my 6d and 550d? I can get brand new in box for usd 250. I can use the extra stop of aperture. Thanks for the review.

    • @dxkaiyuan4177
      @dxkaiyuan4177 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly i dont think you need this lens. The focal length and aperture is just too similar to justify another lens. You'd probably be better off bumping up your iso than getting another lens. Unless, you could consider selling your 40mm and "upgrading" to this. In that case, I would recommend you get the Tamron 35mm 1.8 VC, which is more expensive, but is 1/3 stop faster and had stabilisation

    Hi! At the moment i have two offers, 30mm f1.4 EX DC HSM(older ver.) and this 35? Both for the same money. I tend towards Sigma but still not sure.. I love street shots, esc. at night. Focusing is also very important to me.

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +roki977 Hmmm. The Sigma is just so soft at f/1.4 though, it's really frustrating, and it's AF is not so accurate. If sharpness is important to you, I'd actually go for this Canon lens

    • @roki977
      @roki977 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I was thinking the same way from what i saw and read but hoping there is something in Sigma worth over Canon.. I only use 50 STM for street and bit wider would be nice. STM is sharp enough for me from f/2.2 but hard to use these days with so many people on the streets, Advent time.

    • @roki977
      @roki977 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      After all that crying how tight 50 can be I go and buy 85 USM.. 35 f/2 will be next..

    Hi Chris! I shoot on a crop sensor and want a prime 35mm. Unfortunately Canon's newer IS 35mm and Sigma's 35mm Art are both out of my budget. I am now contemplating buying this older Canon 35mm off eBay or trying the Canon 40mm STM focal length. Should I go with a secondhand older Canon 35mm or a Canon 40mm? Thanks in advance! Also anyone else that can help would be greatly appreciated!

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I'd go for the 35mm lens, but the 40mm will be a little sharper if that is your top priority
