- My speed run of Pokemon Gold that was performed live at Awesome Games Done Quick 2013. This run was one of the most intense things I've ever done, and while the result wasn't as I had planned, I was still fairly pleased with the overall reaction to this run.
This video also features me beating Pokemon Yellow after Gold is finished.
And before anyone asks, yes, I did beat the game afterwards, within about 5 minutes.

Here's a highlight: 1:53:00
>Accessing his Pokémon team screen will crash the game (so no healing and no swapping out Pokémon)
>He has no badges (so his Pokémon's move choice is completely random, rather than based on trainer's input)
>He must RNG the move Rollout in order to ensure at least some damage (until it misses)
>His current and ergo last Pokémon he can use has 24/300 hp left.
>He has to defeat the Champion, Lance.
if you read the description he did beat the game. Not sure if he meant on that save or if he restarted the game
I love that the thumbnail shows him resetting. That pretty much sums up the run.

I have to admit that this is my favorite run of his for Pokemon Gold. I admire how determined he was to beat it and how well he took it when he didn't really beat it. He got so far with it and kudos to him for that because this shit is intense to say the absolute least.

Had to be the best run I've watched in AGDQ 2013 simply because of how trivial the run was.

Why do you think they're so bad nowadays? While there were a lot of boring runs in this year's SGDQ, and a lot of boring runners that share none of their knowledge about the game, there were a bunch of good ones, esp. the first four or so and the SMM race.
They've become so boring and sanitised, you're not allowed to swear or anything because "Think of the children!" and that's just one example. This was from before gdq became a corporation

since I made this post a while back, I've not really changed my opinion, but realized why people liked the old GDQ's more. The Jak and Daxter's run from this SGDQ comes to mind.
Perfect proof of your point is seen in Werster's banning from GDQs. I think he had some sort of beef with the staff, but he's definitely not the sort of "kid-friendly" type of guy you'd see nowadays running

Countdown starts at 4:56. It's a sequence of three numbers that are directly successive. It's also a three second long countdown. Half Life 3 Confirmed.
I liked AGDQ more around this time than now... though it's still pretty good.

I can't help but think of all the things I would've done with this knowledge as a kid. I had a single Mew that I was always triple-checking carts for before wiping a save. I guess I can finally do a gen1&2 100% run without worry now, aside from those sketchy old cart batteries.

Saw this on my feed, so I immediately watched from start to finish. I loved this run so much! Even if you couldn't beat it on the big stage, you still did an amazing job going through all of this and making it very entertaining for us!
Also, I feel for you with Croconaw not obeying you. I did a solo run once with the traded Onix right at the beginning. Man, that was hell because he wouldn't obey me... But nowhere near the hell you went through with this! xD

They do. However they cannot do runs due to the shiny having an extremely long battle cry which literally ends up costing 3 seconds a battle. anywhere from 5-15 minutes in total based on rng

In a marathon setting, they could easily catch it, catch a regular one and stash away the shiny. The odds of getting one are too small, especially in a marathon.

Yes. After a pokemon faints it brings you to the team screen to select the next one. Because he had more than 6 pokemon, going to this screen would crash the game (which is also why he couldnt heal)

no, it's because they're traded pokemon. in pokemon games (at least the first two gens) traded pokemon are signified by having an id different from your trainer id, which means almost all glitchy pokemon are considered traded b/c the odds of getting your trainer id by chance are miniscule. traded pokemon disobey you (unless you have the badges to control them) but gain boosted exp

well, as you saw it 80% the aerodactyl and the gyrados has slightly more hp than it so it wouldn't have OHKO it. Rollout was the only choice and then pray for rock throw/rollout to work a 6th time.

I find glitches like this absolutely fascinating. Besides, it doesn't really ruin the game, as it's just as much fun to play normally. But as a speedrun, I expect it to be insane and game-breaking. Good run!

Sorry, I didn't mean to intentionally hold a secret to myself. If you google ysg, you will find something about one named "Yellow Shirt Guy." This happens to be a guy that goes by the name Blueglass, who is also at this same convention (he ran the Ecco the Dolphin game). A lot of people seem to make fun of him, and I suspect this must be why he names it that. It might be coincidence, but it seems slim.
why can gdq donation readers never read properly??
Read donations faster, fit more donations in. Quantity over quality. Would you rather your donation be read slightly wrong, or not be read at all?

Blaziken is Ubers tier, it's by far the best. Greninja and both forms of Mega Charizard come pretty close. Mega Swampert and Mega Venusaur come after that.

Well in defence of Werster for Mike's "One of those 151 is Magnemite" Steel didn't exist in Gen 1, checkmate
Bayleef is the counter to Totodile and totodile doesn't learn Ice fang until like level 20, so razor leaf can easily fuck the run up especially if it crits. So basically it's really difficult because you're more reliant on RNG.
I think the badge boost from Bugsy is part of what makes Fury Cutter stronger than 10

without doubt it was the most fun run IMO, me and some people actully got together just to watch this run specifically.
Mike89 is his brother, and he hates him now for reasons you can find easily if you're interested. I'm not sure how he felt at the time of this run.

So I think I figured out why different pokemon are getting xp, as if you're using xp share. It says that they're gaining "boosted xp" which would mean that your main probably is holding a Lucky Egg, and is for some reason sharing the boosted xp with the other pokemon.
