- When you think you're in for a good ride out and then you end up axle deep in mud 🤣 Well it's all ok, I not only tested the new bike out but tested the new watch routing software out too. So it's a day of learning what not to do the next time.
So what do you think of the new bike & watch?

Ever since the Vicar of Dibley puddle episode...
I've had a dread of walking, riding or driving thro them, u just have no idea how deep they are!😁👍👌👍😏
Classic episode 😂
Up there with Del boy falling thro the bar,
Funniest moments in british comedy. Take care butty👍👌👍😁
Great video, very clear, and thanks for the links and advice !!
Good review, I enjoyed it. I've watched some others and you had some great extra info about d8mensions that nobody else had. I did like one I saw with the how to change to full twist throttle for off road trails. Bike and tech vid worked well together
Great video John. Keep them coming 👍
Jeezo John, you did well in that muddy lane! Love the bike, its better suited to your life style being a folder me thinks. I like that the company came back with a more suitable bike. Understanding the ergonomics for the rider is so important. I love the watch too, I've not seen a review of it anywhere, but I'm well impressed. A great vlog John, cheers 👋
Thanks 👍 it was great fun 😂
That looked a bit scary all that mud and puddles, surprised you kept going😳shows how versatile the bike is😊
Bike sale mystery solved. Is this the one John? Great video.
Another good one John. Surprised how reasonably priced the bike is. I have a standard electric road bike which was quite a bit more. Funny how many people seem to like to tell you how to live your life, you're like me -I'm old enough to look after myself ta.
As for earbuds, I've got some apple airpods pro which have a really good transparency mode which let outside sound in so you can hear your environment if you want to. Anyway, keep up the good work 👍
Gonna have to get myself one of those electric bikes John. Good video mate cheers.
You were very local to me there. I really like the editing style of your little bike adventure with the different images you popped into. Don’t know what that’s called, but it was cool 👌
Cool, thanks! I just did a few reframes of the clips for the transitions.
Good luck with the new bike.I have another Garmin gadget called the Touring which also provides round trip routing which I prefer to having to keep glancing at my watch but very personal choice.I've used it in Germany and France and it's taken me to some amazing off the beaten track places.Love it when a bit of tech enhances something. Enjoy!
I can’t wait to find out where it’ll take me in the future 👍🏻😎
I like your new bike. I hope it works out better for you than the other ones. Suzane
Nice one John. I'm with you on the left/rear braking. Old School? atb
Another first class video - thank you. Does the Engwe Engine X 250W ebike have twist and go or a thumb button or is it merely pedal assist ?
It has a throttle for low speeds.
Hi John - great video! I bought the Engine X in red back in July - it's a a really comfortable ride and sturdy too (just a bit heavy for lifting in and out of a car). It's a particularly interesting review for me this one, as it tackles the two main problems I've found with the Engine X - 1. The awful brakes and 2. The gearing, which isn't high enough in its stock form. I imagine this new gearing system now does away with a lot of that ghost peddling at the higher speeds and also conserves battery power for longer rides? The cable operated hydraulic brakes look nice too - funnily enough, I looked at these Xtech ones myself recently. Think I'll upgrade the two and then I'll be really happy with the bike. Thanks again - subscribed!
Just on the brink of biting the bullet and getting one myself mate, I think the upgrades John's done here (and yourself?) would be the ones I'd go for first too. Tyres prob last, to get the wear out of them while I'm getting used to it, etc.
Did you do the mods or any others after then Mark?
The watch seems good, but would it be better with voice direction? I'm not sure I could justify strapping that much money on my wrist but I don't cycle :)
You should reach out to Beeline their cycle nav unit is very interesting ( I have the Beeline Moto on the Motorbike great for planning routes and not a lot of tech on view on the bike ) nice review and they all look so comfy I am being tempted by the fat tyres bikes
Hari OM
That was a bit tense watching in places - well done John!!! YAM xx
Would be able to use earbuds so you get turn by turn without having to look at your watch. Works great on the phone. Nice bike. Don't think I can get one in NZ😂
It’s so funny everyone thinks it’s dangerous looking at my watch, now you’re suggesting I cut out all the important noises around me so I can’t hear other road users 🤣😂
What a world we live in when everyone just wants to bash your fun
Hi John great video, would love to know how tall you are? Do the handle bars move up the same as the ep2 pro?
I’m 5ft 10 and I’d say this bike would be fine from 5ft 3, which is my wife’s height and she find this comfortable, all the way to well over 6ft as the seat height goes up far more than I have it set to.
Well done battling through the mud ! Quick question please - how heavy is the battery as the spec’s just give total weight. Ta muchly 👍
I’ve not weighed the battery but it feels around 10kg
@@GadgetJohn thanks Jon so that would make the bike around 21 kg… perfect, will do some more investigating 👌👌
Scary at times John 😮😮
Hi John, great video. 6 months on, are you still using the Engine X? I'm looking to get one next month. Do you recommend it, or do I give it a wide berth? Cheers, Neil
Yes and yes, but new bikes come out all the time and if I find a better one then who knows.
@GadgetJohn Cheers mate, thanks for getting back to me.
I'm currently eyeing up this bike to get me back cyclibg after many years. A few months in, would you still recommend those hydraulic calipers? Are they as good as proper hydraulic brakes?
Is there any other advice you can offer a potential buyer after yor time with the bike?
I’m still loving it, the upgraded brakes are still working fine, though they are not as good as a full hydraulic set but far better than standard cable operated.
@@GadgetJohn Thanks for replying, I'll strongly consider a set as a first upgrade. Looking like this bike is the one 👍
How does it compare to the cyrusher ? I thought that was your go to bike ?
If you watch the video you’ll find out
@@GadgetJohn must have missed it 🤷♀️
Would you say the epix is almost epic?
Oh yeah 😂
I'm worried by the look of your cycle helmet. It's sitting far too high and would very likely not protect a lot of your head. Best have the helmet fitting properly to your head, then add a helmet cover.,
It fits fine thanks.
😊
Personally speaking here looking at you watch on road or path has risks attached , garmin 1030 plus would have been a much better solution in my opinion
Personally speaking looking at one display or another is distracting. I made a video showing what I’m happy with, so just be happy that it works for me.
Are you still using this as your main bike John?
I only have 1 bike now and that’s the hygge vestor
at what point is a bike a motorbike, the new e bikes are so heavy and with insane tyres i assume it would be almost impossible to ride if the battery went flat
If you watch the video you’ll see me riding it perfectly fine without any battery assistance, you can hear when the motor is working and when it’s not. I only use low modes where the motor shuts off after 5 mph.
@@GadgetJohn thats good, they look so bulky i thought it would be hard to use it without the assistance, i have never had an ebike but batteries have come so far in last year i have been considering one
If it's not on Strava it didn't happen (vlog or not) 😂.
If you are using a similar app, when you come to ride a previous section its always a nice surprise esp if you have improved.
The Garmin Epix Gen2 connects to Strava so it’s updated automatically 😎👍🏻
Love my Garmin.
How much are they?
Click the link in the video description for up to date prices
Hi John that looked like a great ride soon you’re be doing the great cycle race hahaha ,❤❤❤
They are out of stock with no price following the link. I googled and found it is $1999 in AUD. Seems reasonable for such a good model.
wouldn't solid rubber tyres be better on these style of bikes ?
Oh no, solid tyres only work on utterly flat & smooth surfaces.
@@GadgetJohn Thanks for the reply. All take care richie
Hi John, personally if you go for a bike ride why do you need so much technology ? just go and explore, that's the reason for having a bike.
What do you think I was doing in this video? Personally I find it so funny that you chose to be negative after watching this video, maybe you need to go out on your bike & get rid of that negativity
I’m glad you take it John, I’m disabled and can’t really get into the countryside very much, so love watching your videos of where your going and what your doing, thank you 😊
The answer to that is pretty much in the title…’Gadget’ John Adventures. 👍
@@paullindsay1546 That’s pretty much what I was thinking. 🤦🏼
👍🚐🚐😎
Hi John, I've followed your channel right from the first van(I've even been in that first van :)the highs the lows and the great adventures. The only ones I couldn't watch was loosing Cooper as I got too choked up :/🥰
I'm going off topic but would Greatly appreciate your advice as someone I trust, and the comments are turned off on the relevant video.
My Burstner dealer has just sent me pictures of my brand new campervan and they've fitted my Maxxfan sideways 🫣 They said there wasn't enough room to fit it vent facing the rear.
I understand if I don't get a reply as I'm off topic but your advice would be appreciated. The dealer said I can live with it or have the normal roof light re fitted:/
Many Thanks, Jay
I've seen this often on self converted vans as people have no idea about areodynamics, but the dealer must be pretty daft to now check with you first, he's going to have to fix it and any potential water ingress issues caused by mounting it incorrectly. It should not be mounted in any other way than the front pivot hinge facing the direction of travel.
@GadgetJohn thanks so much for the reply, the dealer didn't check with us. We asked for a photo of the roof. The van has been on order for over 2 years and seeing the vent sideways from a main Burstner dealer freaked us out lol. From seeing your videos and Darrens we Really want a maxxfan. There's a solar panel behind so it can't be turned now. They've said they can either re install the original vent or I can live with it sideways and that it'll be fine....just can't drive with it open. I can still remember Darren's big beaming smile when he gave his review ages ago saying it's a game changer. I'm so fked off, a brand new van 🤬
I've tried to do my research but can't find anyone who's actually done it sideways and said it's ok. What would you do, go back to the boring skylight and be hot or keep it sideways? As a main dealer fitted it water ingress is still covered :/ Thanks again :)
Personally I’d go back to the standard skylight due to concerns of wind noise, water ingress and even the possibility 60mph driving speeds could tear it off the roof even closed.
@@GadgetJohn Thanks so much for your input....Gutting as it is lol.
Just finished watching the new fridge video 👍
