Basically all gem effects are strifed so compared to other 2 star options it's still very good. No other gem in the game gives you that much crit chance.
An even lesser discussed activity of this gem are the bone spikes that quite literally NEVER HIT ANYTHING. That's the best they could come up with?
Mentioned it as well. This bonus could not existed at all. Sometimes those spikes stopped me. What was super annoying.
Almost 10% crit in PvP is huge! It more than doubles your crit chance. And it triggers when you actually need it (=you doing damage).
Almost 10% in PvP is huge especially if you use ranger paragon tree, as a necro I find this gem essential for pvp
The 2.88% in bg is misleading. It only triggers on dmg so will only trigger when you are actually fighting. The refresh can occur when you are dead, running to objective, healing, waiting for enemies to respawn - all times that it would be useless anyway. It will also most likely be refreshed w the rest of your gems on cooldown when you initially hit an enemy group after death when it is most beneficial. Just my 2 cents. 10 percent crit may not sound like a lot, but that plus awaken bonus that is not strifed I think is plenty worth it.
Awaken bonus is definitely speaking to me, no doubt. Activation wise ... kinda agree as well, but 2.88% is just an average bonus. If you consider any action during CD, then we can't assume that we use 100% of actual uptime either. For example you can die right after this gem activates itself. That's why averaging things is helpful. But obviously there is endless amount of cases and scenarios, we simply can not study them all. That's why I asked for viewers opinion. Definitely I won't blame anyone for using ML. Eventually I have not made up my mind yet. So thank for your view 😊

Also. I wouldn’t eat it for gem power. Just rank 10 it or save it for when we will be able to extract gem power from 2 stars(this will happen eventually). There’s no reason to eat a rank 8 Lament, especially when we may get more gem slots in the future or like I said, gem power extraction from 2 stars. You can get gem power over time too, so just be patient.
For now it's still sitting in my stash since I don't have copies to rank up viper at rank 10 and Scorn.
Shit like this makes me mad. Why the hell isn't vithus still extending its duration when it works fine with roiling consequences ? Clowns at blizzard crack me up.

Believe it is still worthy (of course for pve) but even in PvP, more cc is always good. Especially since the new patch has been released and we switch to dark curse build, we do tons of damage constantly.
If rank 10 good to unblock the awakening bonus from pants to gain 10% dark curse cd.
Dismantled it after switching class > regret > crafted another one at rank 8 for pve purposes only. From a class to another the gem can be useless or top tier so if you can afford 350 gem power roughly, make one to rank 8 imo.
But is it just pve purpose gem only for you or pvp either? Lack of ML did so much impact for your PvE ?
use 4x Gloom’s Guide instead. for consistent 22percent crit in PVP. Keep Lament for PVE, though lament is very bad in pvp but powerful in pve, especially pve necro summon.
@@vk.videos i only use for pve y and i switch class very often. For pvp i cant waste à slot for mother lament, the buff isnt interesting enough imo when you start to have rank 5/6 5 stars gems.
Class like DH, BK can have good amount of crit from Green set(gloom) or legendary (escape pants crit for example) but when you switch to wizard or crusader (with arrant ignition helm) and want to maximise dps you still need ML in pve imo.
The answer might be différent to someone with différent reso but at 5k that's how i prefer to play 👍
Just 2 weeks ago I crushed mine and started building up Kir Sling instead, we all get way to hung up on PVE gems they really mean very little, having gems that matter more in PVP is a better option,
I still use it in my universal dolphin gem setup of:

r10 viper's bite
r10 berserker (towards r10 igneous scorn)

Crusader is temporary but preparing myself for future content which gonna include this class for sure 👌

my setup is very similar. i dont use blessed pebble as igneous scorn benefits me more and use power & command instead of grim rhythm.

I maxed it to level 10, still going to use it. The game is too costly and painful to move one gem into another.
Fortunately we can do 2s without paying . Eventually we are able to recycle them into gem power. But if it's in your awaken slot then I can't blame you.

Just prepare 820 rune to switch to another R10 2 star gem 😬. And it will not be lost anyway, will be converted to 41 excess gem power for other gem upgrade.
Not sure where you're getting the 2.88% from. When I tested in rite practice the gem duration is 6 seconds. So 10% (rank 10) crit bonus over 6 seconds is huge! And its not a fair comparison unless you awaken the slot to get +10% cooldown reduction or damage - that should make up for the loss of reso from a 5* gem.
As a DH i've run rank 10 mother's lament and rank 10 pain clasp each separately in bg over periods of time and noticed the mother's lament outperformed the pain clasp. The burst damage is much harder for people to deal with and secures the kills better. For reference I'm in Legend bracket at around 4k reso
I run DH as a lower spender, in your opinion what would be the best gems to invest in as far as long term in this game. Currently I use lam,PainC, BSJ R3, echo shadeR3, vipers, BR and carsen
i like the gem. its only pvp that its not good for. most of the game it brilliant for

To cheer you up a little bit ... it's still not that bad for vaults pvp since strife debuff most likely is lower there. But definitely, I would go for new 5s. No luck though...
I still think it’s worth to use because sometimes Getting couple lucky crits is all you need to finish a fight good to know though how much it’s nerfed in battlegrounds tho

I remember you said if someone don’t have ml then you don’t know what that person was doing with his or her life and I said that wasn’t the case because of what you are saying now and even in pve you can use gloom or boe and I don’t know why crusades were using it ,

@Darkward137 it's not exactly this way. I didn't upload video about ML before but it doesn't mean that I didn't know that. Gem video you mentioned is quite old and ML worked just as described. Also we had much less critical chance sources. This gem was good and still is for some people. About gloom actually gloom doesn't work as described not only with lament, just like couple other essences.

PvP has always nerfed things that were super powerful in PvE, Even though this game was basically premised as a PvP type of game.
Wow! Thanks for the info. I have a rank 6 currently. Honestly, I built it from watching a video, but…Now knowing about it not functioning with the Urge set (which I run 6), seems like a fairly crummy gem for a crusader.
Definitely going to seek an alternative. It’s cheap enough to rebuild if a positive change is included in an upcoming patch 👊🏼😎

I agree it’s a bit overrated for PVP, but in this video I think you are underrating it. Around 10% crit chance in BG is nothing to sneeze at… The average % you mentioned makes little sense to me since you aren’t fighting nonstop ever. Do you think all dmg gems are bad in PVP then? Because all are affected by strife. Also, at R10 you get awakened bonus which is not affected by strife. The latter is no argument against other 1/2 star gems but a solid one compared to 5 stars.

As a high reso player i use this gem only for PVE faming
Well as a Necro and having this and followers at rank 10, you get to add the followers as gem resonance to the lament for pvp. This gives the lament a lot of extra reso. I'm already replacing followers and beserkers from my PvE gems so can't really afford to have a third gem ready to replace lament. Plus it's one of my only 2 awakening slots so I also get a nice bonus there.
Yup. Put my disappointing rank 6 followers that I no longer used inside ML too. But seriously, I have been scratching my head trying to understand the ML hype in pvp. ML is so sought after I sold a few for 8k after I ranked mine to 10 and no longer needed any more rank 1's.
I really think I need to start testing my own stuff instead of relying on youtubers one way or the other.
Good PvE gem and when you add igneous can pack a decent punch. Neither are good for pvp
almost every legenadary gem has the same nerf in pvp, and that's why the damage of some gems is not relevant but rather used to trigger abilities (triggered by due continuous damage or control effects). An exception is the Phoenix gem, since its death prevention effect is all or nothing, and the subsequent healing is irrelevant because it triggers and you run

I'm using it on my necro for both PvP and PvE. But I'm a low spender, so I don't have any five star gems. Among the two star gems choices, it seems useful.
Please don't tell me it doesn't work with summons.
I have an R10 I’ll be keeping around for the time being. There’s a good chance I will be using it and the Chain/Follower/P&C feeding it resonance for GP if the new 5* next month ends up living up to the rumors.
The main mistake is that everyone uses it in pvp when it is a 100% pve stone
Aaaaaand that explains why I couldn't understand the ML hype. I made a rank 10. Just couldn't see why everyone was saying how awesome it was, meanwhile I'm scratching my head because I was not seeing any awesomeness. I've kept it simply for the awakening.
As I said back in the days some classes/builds suffered general lack of critical chance which was crucial part of pvp. Especially ML wasn't strifed at the beginning which turns upside down a lot of setups. Since then we are able to use other paragons tree, set item configurations, essences with quite good bonus.
I crashed it for my reso gem ages ago when I feel that its not giving me better results than my reso gems in pvp.
So which is better for summoner in pvp rank 10 lament or bloody reach?
Lament is 10% in PvP, most knew this. It’s still good, as your base crit chance is strifed too. I have 20% base crit chance and in PvP this is about 6.8%. So lament gives me a 16.8%. If I use 4pc Gloom this is constant crit % gains and my burst damage is huge. Also, Battlegrounds isn’t everything, there’s so much more content out there.
Lament is still a top 5 2 star. Pain Clasp, Fang or Reach(Necro), Viper, Lament, Igneous
I didn't test it yet but as far as I know gloom gives you less crit bonus the higher is your base crit. But I can't be 100% sure.

A good 5Star Gem will always be superior than Mother’s Lament in PvP, Resonance is still king in PvP. Other than 5Stars, next most important are the Aquamarines, Topaz and other Secondary Gems.
Just one counterargument is that 2 stars are able to be awakened, bonus from it isn't strifed and helps a lot. I mean as well as 5 starts but let's be honest ... how many people in this game is able to do that. Definitely not me.

But you’re right, I believe if the global such whales will be very very little compared to the rest of the population.. I hope Blizz can implement cross Server PvP soon. PvP in Anu is getting boring.
@vJaxz actually on EU servers it seems like matchmaking grabs people form all other EU servers. I'm not 100% sure though.
i disagree, in fact i have the opposite conclusion. since all gems as well Reso is nerf in BG, the higher the reso, the nerf is higher depends on ratio. u can test ur nerf ratio, in shadow’s rite exile entrance.
Resonance does not equate highest rank or top 10 in bg leaderboard or else there would be no top 10 or top 3 below 1k reso in my server every season. in fact there’s 3k ranking in gold stucked there.
hence, i do have the opposition conclusion in that Reso is definitely King in PVE instead. since gems and all normal gems has no nerf nor nerf ratio.
Although for clan battle, rite exile you might be right.
Playing the most will usually yield high bg ranking.

Not sure but as far as I know crit chance bonus is not additive from some sources and essences. What is another intetesting topic.
It does not stack even ml and gloom or with BOE doesn’t stack well so go with one not both.
I use my max rank lament as gem power for vipers and pain clasp
As a summoner, I upgraded my lament to 4. I stopped when I got shepherds. I didn't think the gem was worth it due to its short activation time when shepherds is on all the time and has higher %crit on average. Plus shepherds does not take up a gem slot.
I kept my LM for now. I figure I might need it if and when I stop playing a summoner.

Most likely I can't. Grin bonusdoesn't appear in stats but I'm pretty sure it gives 30% of actual bonus on pvp.
For me I don't see issue with Lament, still worth to use it.
I never used this gem, i know is OP.. but i preff to use Pain Clasp for 24% moe dmg 8% in pvp )

which would make it even worse, as cutt throat gem, is flat out crit chance nerf, which would make it slight better chances i think.
i don’t use either for pvp but instead green set gloom’s guide 22% flat crit after dash. but i do use both for PVE and selective pve like blood alley. in blood alley rank 1 cutt throat and lament is all max to rank10 as default. extremely powerful.
but horrible in bg. i find ingenious scorn with Gloom’s Guide is very powerful combination in BG.

i'm not sure if it's flat 66/70% flat across board. i believe is more of baseline but fluctuates independently depends on other factors and can go above 70% i believe.
u can check out MinMaxRpg video on hidden nerf. he mention, it's more on "compressing" bg difference. he mention and i quote "what it means is that, the less our damage, the less we lose."
@eastcow but it's about dmg and hp from resonance. If it comes to percentage bonuses from magic bonus, reforge bonus and gems, it's flat 70% for anything. Damage to players and from players aren't.

just like lament not everything is consistent flat out, until proven comparing differentiate reso and compression. especially inside rite of exile.
i can definitely see your point and totally agree with u flat out 70percent baseline nerf for both 100reso and 8k reso is possible. but beyond baseline, i think testing normal gem and 5star life and damage will possibly proof 8k reso might be nerf close to 80% to 90% or more instead.
although i don’t have an account of that sort high reso to test but i do hope it can clarify more into this convolution of nerfing.

So Mothers' Laments problem is that it's strifed - like almost every gem effect?
The hopes skill cdr or movespeed bonuses of jade, pain clasp etc are the exceptions.
Most gems we could compare both unstrifed or both strifed, 16% of pain clasp is 4.8% dmg etc
bigger issue is the increase in crit essences, meaning more crit is less benefitial than at its release
Thanks you for this comment since this is really good point. And definitely if we could analyse more strifed bonuses then most likely there would be more gems to get rid. But in the case of lament at least for me strife debuff is quite heavy. Compared to pain clasp which is 24% strifed to 6% indeed it seems a little bit similar but still it is const bonus while lament gives us chance that 1 out of 10 attack deals at least double damage. So inested 100k we deal 110k statistically. 10% is definitely higher than 6 % but here we have lament uptime which lower this just to 3 %. In resoult statistically we get twice as much as from claps compared to lament.
Obviously it doesn't apply in every situation on BG and that's why I wanted to know other people's opinion. So thanks again 😊

Being a DH focus on PVE, I use BSJade, GloomC, VoidS and BHope for 5* lvl5 and BloodyR, PainC, FervantF for 2* awaken and GrimR lvl6

Void, starfire, bh, viper, pain clasp, bsj, FH, SB. Last two for defense, rest for dmg and dot dmg. I'm a battle mage and I focus on pvp
Many players are getting caught up with the maxed out 2* gem, sacrificing the Cr and reso from 5* just to get 10% cooldown = 1sec and 10% damage boost = 0% against players higher Cr. What a bunch of idiots.
Not the case with the new wizard builds around sprightspark. Imagine a sader with a horse with 100% uptime. That is a proper sprightspark build. Also, cr doesn't mean much in pvp. reso doesn't mean much either. Secondaries are the be all end all in pvp, especially the blues. reds are useless. yellows have some value for cc based builds.
@@auser1433 Cr and reso doesn't mean much for wimp class. My barb with 34100cr 2780 reso smashed a wiz with 34400 Cr and 3900 reso twice.
Except those Awaken bonuses aren't Strifed in PvP.
