I think that a part of what makes this lute music so deeply satisfying is that it sounds so utterly timeless. Even though most of it was written during the Renaissance and Baroque eras, it feels like it has always existed and always will. ❤
In those simpler (and much more difficult) times of the Renaissance - WAY before Prozac and Ambient Sounds & "Music" (often created by Artificial "Intelligence"), so-called "ordinary people" were sometimes fortunate enough to obtain some consolation and relief (albeit temporary) in their short-lived lives from the humdrum and often arduous existence - "the hurtful Misery of this world" (as St. Vincent Ferrer once described it) by listening to this lovely, consoling and refreshing music. They must have thought off it as a Blessing indeed.
Concordo. Fico divagando a pensar se o mundo era mais tranquilo para se viver ou as agruras eram maiores pelo excesso de ocupações, em alguns períodos, e por doenças. Saudações do Brasil. 🇧🇷
Well, most in fact only the royalty would hear this music. Such a rare occasion it must have been..Unless there were travelling concerts throughout Europe. Does anyone know how many people were able to hear music like this? Maybe in the average village in Europe there were musicians but the music played was not as difficult..Maybe akin to a few chords strumming.

Comprehensive compilation of beautiful lute music beautifully played with the highest technique and the innate lyricism. Fascinating from the beginning to the end!
So soothing, calm and beautiful lute music! I can listening to this harmonious sounds continuously to warm my soul, body and spirit! Thank you for posting!
Sim, concordo. Perguntei ao meu professor de violão se o barroco era simplesmente algo da contra-reforma ou era o ápice da música. Ele não soube me responder. Vou continuar buscando a resposta. Saudações do Brasil.🇧🇷
I was listening to something else, and this music came on afterwards, I didn't even notice the music changed until half way through because I was so focused. This is powerful stuff 😂
Same here. Except transitioning from wild rock and roll to this was a huge difference! I wanted to find something more exciting. But I kept listening. This is very relaxing. it's good to calm the hell down every once in a while. 😁
I love this music. Artificial reverb is not necessary. Maybe a smidge for “seasoning “but not smothered in reverb sauce. It starts to sound like it’s being played through a vintage Fender amplifier.
Very nice playlist - some people here down think that the lute is very difficult to tune. Yes and No. Let me give some inputs. 1. Historically lutes were stringed with gut. It gives a beautiful sound, and YES the tune moves according to temperature, humidity, etc... And on top of this, IT COSTED VERY VERY MUCH !! some sources say that the cost to maintain a lute was approx. the same that to maintain a horse !!! Nowadays, gut strings are more affordable but many people, even professionals, use nylon strings. And NO the tune doesn't move so much, you can stay in tune during a whole concert. 2. Tuning itself. Well, even if they don't like to admit it, EVERY musicians I know (including Viola da Gamba) use electronic device ; it works very well and it is very quick. ClearTune by example, on my mobile phone, allows unequal temperament tuning. 3. Here we are : why is Lute, and Guitar so difficult to tune perfectly ? Because these instruments hate equal temperament !!! I f you tune your guitar with a piano it is AWFULL !! If you tune your guitar by adjusting on the 5th box, your octaves will be false. If you tune by adjusting octaves (harmonic on the 12th) your 3rd and 4rth will be false !!! WHY ? Because, the octave has been divided by 12 intervals, but in fact there are 13 intervals... So, to get the equal temperament, we cheat of 12/13 tone every note... and on a lute or guitar, it results in a false playing instrument. So we use INEQUAL TEMPERAMENT, by example I use Werckmeister, harpsichord players use Barnes-Bach... and it works perfectly ! 4. Nombre of strings. Well not really an issue, thanks to this electronic device Conclusion : In old times people uses to say : "Lutenists spend half of the evening tuning their instrument and the other half playing false" it's not true anymore 😜...
Pfft affordable my ass, las time I had to restring my Spanish vihuela which is the same as a 6 course lute... It was 75€ approx... That is not affordable compared to strings for any other type of guitar. Yes cello strings are a kidney per string and piano even more and all that but you gotta change lute strings every two months if you play every day because they just lose all sound and tuning old strings is a pain. And that's not counting on actual gut strings which are more expensive and prone to rot. Also not counting on the gut frets which are gut most of the time because synthetic frets suck. It's an expensive job and hobby, not just the instruments themselves being 3000 bucks but the care you gotta put. But it's all worth it
Thank you for posting this! I listen to Vol 1 every week when I work from home. Now I can listen to Vol 2 as well. Can you add the nature scenes like you have in Vol 1?

The song played at 22:34 is the first movement of Ernst Gottlieb Baron's Sonata for Lute Solo in B-Flat Major, Fantasia. It is played by Bernhard Hofstötter. This recording was originally released in June of 2022 on the album Baron: Music for Lute Solo & Lute and Recorder (96080)
Old music that never gets old.
The rare music that is not boring or monotonous, and yet can be played as one works without distraction.
