THER ARE some good manga's out there like vagabond , vinland saga and many more that inspire you to be a better person,yet people get this kind of entertainment to get some guilty pleasure and fell better for themselves and jock of themselves. gosh darn that why entertainment was that bad and buried some good contents that needed some light of attentions.
Haven't watched or read rent a girlfriend, but this doesn't surprise me. For some reason, a lot of anime like to drag out romance stories, with the ultimate goal being "the main character finally confesses", as if a romance story cant exist past a relationship being established.
Recently watched Horimiya and I was surprised that they managed to base an anime on a wholesome and somewhat believeable progression of a relationship.

Horimiya actually seems like the first romance anime in recent years where most of the episodes are actually worth your time, and I'm glad that more and more anime and manga are breaking out of this stupid ass trope.
Rent a Girlfriend is like a staircase, you're going upstairs but the moment you open your eyes, you realize that you're walking up to an escalator going down.
The only thing I like in Rental Girlfriend is whenever a chapter drops I read the comments in r/manga lmao the amount of cope and salt there is humongous

kazuya doesnt even look like the main character, he looks like the pervy nasty guy in the train that appears for 10 seconds in 1 episode only and gets smacked by one of the popular boys at school
I get you man, like honestly i feel quite sad for them for enjoying this manga and anime for this long. Like, okay the half of the episode and some chapters of the manga was entertaining, but Kazuya personality as a male protag is just dumb and stupid and the plot of the story just feels like a damn loop.

This is a manga with 227 chapters currently that could have been shortened into less than 180 chapters
Mami's backstory is so dumb. She's from a rich family and she had a BF who her parents didn't approve of, so they married her to the son of one of her father's business partners, to her chagrin. Her fiancee bribed the BF into breaking up with her. And that's when she "broke". And now she wants no one to be happy because she isn't happy. Edit: the manga is still trash

If anyone wants a pallet cleanser after suffering through Rent-A-Girlfriend, I highly recommend Extremely Straightforward Boyfriend x Girlfriend. It's exactly what it says on the tin. It's only got 39 chapters, and that's all it needs. *It's gold!* They get shit done, there's no nonsense misunderstandings, there are no love rivals, the relationship is healthy, the two main characters have a beautiful wedding, and they all live happily ever after with an adorable and likewise extremely straightforward daughter.
Reiji Miyajima should just be an illustrator for someone else's story. His artwork is actually really good but the plot is so bad that it doesn't even matter.

recently I figured out one of the main reasons I hate the MC. He is so obssessed with being Chizuru's boyfriend he isn't even her friend. I realised it when chizuru hugs him after her grandmother died. And he just stands there like a fucking moron. And I'm not saying this is the time to ask her out, I'm saying that your friend is crying to you about their dead relative and you're literally too much of an incel to comfort them. I root for Mami at this point because none of the characters deserve a good end, except the grandma

Unfortunately profit makes the world go round.You can choose to create a story that's subversive and groundbreaking and isn't for everyone's taste at the high risk of not earning a lot/not becoming very popular because you have a specific audience, or you can create a watered down, easy to digest tale that's been done to death for over 20 years now, with the high chance of it becoming popular with the masses. Such is the dilemma for any budding creator who wants to keep their integrity but also be able to pay the bills.
I felt legitimately shocked when I learned that the mangaka is married and has kids, because the story feels like it was written by an incel that has never had a real conversation with a woman (and I don't even mean it in a romantic way).

Hey to give them credit, they HAVE made progress. The manga is very clear about that. But it is still very much “2 steps forward, 1 step back”. But you gotta admit that’s an upgrade from “1 step forward 2 steps back” so….progress?
I always thought the mangaka's plan was to make the MC grow from being this bratty boy who got dumped by his manipulative girlfriend, learning to stand up for himself and see the evil Mami was instead of always backing down and trying to impress her because of her looks. But as the series went on, I came to realize the small dick energy the MC had was inherit to his character and the author had no intention of changing it. Been months since I've last read a chapter in the series, and I'm fine with not knowing how the story progresses.
That's what we should have expected and what usually happens when a man try to correct his past mistakes with the past relationships... Something like "The skill of lure" (great manhwa by the way, recommend it)
I mean let’s face it, not even a hint character development, just damn common sense, would instantly ruin this plot. How much money, how much time, effort or dedication do you think could he have spent on his future. He’s not even an infuriating or annoying character. He’s depressing, and sad.

I really wish the mangaka would partner up with someone who actually knows how to write a romcom for his next work. The man's art are really good, especially his fashion sense but he doesn't know how to write good characters. Damn this comment aged poorly.
He should learn from Negi Haruba (the Quintessential Quintuplets author) and Nanashi (Nagatoro author). Those guys wrote good and enjoyable romcom in less than 150 chapters and were serialized in the same magazine (Weekly shonen magazine) . Heck Nagatoro is still running and there's even more progression in Nagatoro plot than in Rent a girlfriend and Nagatoro manga didn't even reach 100 chapters yet.
I have a feeling he got really good at art and then his friends and family were like, “you should write a manga!” And since he can do a comic book art style he thought he could handle it, but that doesn’t fix the fact he doesn’t know how to write a story.
He probably had good intentions with the manga to begin with, but I guess once he realized it was bringing in the goo ($$) he just kept stretching the story. Although the writing was already kinda lazy at some parts in the beginning

I love how a cute anime girl can be literally the definition of an possessive abusive psychotic person and weebs will still be like “omg she’s my waifu I wish someone cared about me like that”. Friendly reminder for lonely people: being single is ALWAYS better than being in an abusive relationship. Now in some other universe, rent a girlfriend is about a depressed dude who believes he will die alone and without anything (shows a single gravestone) who's trying to feel alive by renting a girlfriend, and she ends up actually helping him get his life out of the dump, and they both end up liking each other. The dude finally confesses, and they start officially going out. The story then turns into a slice of life where the couple gets better jobs, and end up moving together and starting a family. It follows them til the end when the girl is on her death bed (old age), and she says "I'll be waiting for you on the other side". After a few panels of him visiting her grave, and giving a flower (idk some flower from earlier in the story). it then shows him on his death bed, and as he's slowly dying he sees a white light, and his wife reaching to him for a hug, he says "you kept your promise" with a tear of joy, and he slowly gets pulled into the light. Last scene shows the 2 Graves side by side.
The best end I saw someone suggest for this garbage was having Kazuya finally realize that chasing Chizuru in such a manner (paying for her and lying to his family) is wrong, seeing how negatively his admiration for her is affecting him, admitting that even if they have a relationship it won't be on equal footing and staying as friends with Chizuru rather than continue chasing her romantically. It would transform a poorly written romance into a great cautionary tale about simping and how even a simp can break free of his poor habits. Of course, this was before the 8 pages of NTR which made Kazuya irredeemable and a laughing stock.

When you really think about it, the mangaka is a genius. He has created a story where jack shit happens but is entertaining enough and has some great art where you want to know how it turns out. Since there is basically no progression, the story can last until readers get bored. Even if he manages to exhaust all he could with Chizuru, my man could just introduce Chizuru 2.0 for Kazuya to simp after My man has found the money duplication glitch

This anime also brings up the ever-growing issue of a male lead who has little to nothing of value being surrounded by adoring women in many other romance animes/manga. A story about a quiet, nerdy, scrawny unpopular guy can absolutely work well, but a huge issue that a lot of authors hit is that they forget that there has to be some sort of appeal to the male lead for his love interests to actually find something in him to like. It's one thing to try and promote that quiet, nerdy, unpopular guys deserve love, it's another to write a literal garbage dump for a male lead and have the same expectations. So many of these romance animes/mangas fail at making a good romance between the lead male and the love interest because their lead male is either bland and boring, has no personality other than being a pervert, so oblivious to the affections of his love interests that you question if he has brain damage, or they're straight up written like a closet r@pist. Sometimes all of the above at the same time. It's cute when it's a story about a shy, unpopular guy who finds a girl who loves and accepts him despite that. It's not cute when the guy in question is actually a restraining order on legs while preaching that they deserve to be given love when they have nothing going for them.
In response to the last paragraph, if you want a story like that, read/watch "My Dress-Up Darling". Marin and Gojo are probably the most functioning main couple of a romcom series that I have ever read.
@@imjustbeinghonest2994 I’m not a huge fan of mangas similar to Dress-Up darling, so I just watched the anime, and honestly there were parts I didn’t enjoy (obviously, the fanservice, but like 90% of romance anime has excessive fanservice), but my favourite part was that Gojo *was* an unpopular guy, the difference between him and other mc’s was that he wasn’t a massive incel, he actually had skill in a craft and is a decent guy who just likes doing his sewing and working with his grandpa.

Yet this fuck named Kazuya has made no progress against his internal demons(his fear of rejection and spineless personality) or the people against him(Mami and the other girl hindering what could be a healthy relationship). He is practically living a simulation with the way he orchestrates his life which is a constant cycle over which he has no control, so if anything I feel he would be more of an antagonist to his own life, if I'm being really generous he would be a pacifist, but considering how he acts and how he is a representation of the people(the girls) he is surrounded by.
one thing that really sucks is that they didn't exploit the fact that hes spending A LOT on renting Chizuru and, he has said he "has no money" yet he can rent chizuru 🤦🏻♂️...so either hes a fucking liar or the writer forgot that 5.000¥ per hour is a lot of money to be spending almost daily especially for a broke student, he gets a job and all but that shouldn't be enough to cover his insane expenses...i would've liked if kazuya ran out of money, broke down crying as he cant pay to rent chizuru for an important occasion and she out of the kindness in her heart goes with him without asking for payment, then i would've liked that to develop further until she'd forget about payments completely as she slowly falls for kazuya 😅

My biggest issues with some romance manga is that there’s either: A) slow plot B) un likeable MC C) ‘humour’ that isn’t even great. That being said there are many I do love and will read romances as there are some that are just wonderful I’m every way

@@yabazyabacoffee Well, you gain quite a sense when you read the good mangas out there so I avoid the generic stuff as to not waste my time and just end up dropping them. A lot of the mangas I read are obscure and have few chapters to them so that's mostly the reason as to why I haven't dropped a lot. This just went under my radar because the concept was interesting. I mean it's basically prostitution without the good part.

Recently watched Horimiya and I was surprised that they managed to base an anime on a wholesome and somewhat believeable progression of a relationship.

It's only got 39 chapters, and that's all it needs. *It's gold!* They get shit done, there's no nonsense misunderstandings, there are no love rivals, the relationship is healthy, the two main characters have a beautiful wedding, and they all live happily ever after with an adorable and likewise extremely straightforward daughter.

I always thought the mangaka's plan was to make the MC grow from being this bratty boy who got dumped by his manipulative girlfriend, learning to stand up for himself and see the evil Mami was instead of always backing down and trying to impress her because of her looks. But as the series went on, I came to realize the small dick energy the MC had was inherit to his character and the author had no intention of changing it. Been months since I've last read a chapter in the series, and I'm fine with not knowing how the story progresses.

Heck Nagatoro is still running and there's even more progression in Nagatoro plot than in Rent a girlfriend and Nagatoro manga didn't even reach 100 chapters yet.

I have a feeling he got really good at art and then his friends and family were like, “you should write a manga!” And since he can do a comic book art style he thought he could handle it, but that doesn’t fix the fact he doesn’t know how to write a story.

Now in some other universe, rent a girlfriend is about a depressed dude who believes he will die alone and without anything (shows a single gravestone) who's trying to feel alive by renting a girlfriend, and she ends up actually helping him get his life out of the dump, and they both end up liking each other. The dude finally confesses, and they start officially going out. The story then turns into a slice of life where the couple gets better jobs, and end up moving together and starting a family. It follows them til the end when the girl is on her death bed (old age), and she says "I'll be waiting for you on the other side". After a few panels of him visiting her grave, and giving a flower (idk some flower from earlier in the story). it then shows him on his death bed, and as he's slowly dying he sees a white light, and his wife reaching to him for a hug, he says "you kept your promise" with a tear of joy, and he slowly gets pulled into the light. Last scene shows the 2 Graves side by side.

The best end I saw someone suggest for this garbage was having Kazuya finally realize that chasing Chizuru in such a manner (paying for her and lying to his family) is wrong, seeing how negatively his admiration for her is affecting him, admitting that even if they have a relationship it won't be on equal footing and staying as friends with Chizuru rather than continue chasing her romantically. It would transform a poorly written romance into a great cautionary tale about simping and how even a simp can break free of his poor habits.
Of course, this was before the 8 pages of NTR which made Kazuya irredeemable and a laughing stock.

This anime also brings up the ever-growing issue of a male lead who has little to nothing of value being surrounded by adoring women in many other romance animes/manga.
A story about a quiet, nerdy, scrawny unpopular guy can absolutely work well, but a huge issue that a lot of authors hit is that they forget that there has to be some sort of appeal to the male lead for his love interests to actually find something in him to like. It's one thing to try and promote that quiet, nerdy, unpopular guys deserve love, it's another to write a literal garbage dump for a male lead and have the same expectations.
So many of these romance animes/mangas fail at making a good romance between the lead male and the love interest because their lead male is either bland and boring, has no personality other than being a pervert, so oblivious to the affections of his love interests that you question if he has brain damage, or they're straight up written like a closet r@pist. Sometimes all of the above at the same time.
It's cute when it's a story about a shy, unpopular guy who finds a girl who loves and accepts him despite that. It's not cute when the guy in question is actually a restraining order on legs while preaching that they deserve to be given love when they have nothing going for them.
In response to the last paragraph, if you want a story like that, read/watch "My Dress-Up Darling". Marin and Gojo are probably the most functioning main couple of a romcom series that I have ever read.

He is practically living a simulation with the way he orchestrates his life which is a constant cycle over which he has no control, so if anything I feel he would be more of an antagonist to his own life, if I'm being really generous he would be a pacifist, but considering how he acts and how he is a representation of the people(the girls) he is surrounded by.
one thing that really sucks is that they didn't exploit the fact that hes spending A LOT on renting Chizuru and, he has said he "has no money" yet he can rent chizuru 🤦🏻♂️...so either hes a fucking liar or the writer forgot that 5.000¥ per hour is a lot of money to be spending almost daily especially for a broke student, he gets a job and all but that shouldn't be enough to cover his insane expenses...i would've liked if kazuya ran out of money, broke down crying as he cant pay to rent chizuru for an important occasion and she out of the kindness in her heart goes with him without asking for payment, then i would've liked that to develop further until she'd forget about payments completely as she slowly falls for kazuya 😅

Nah it’s VERY garbage. 99% of the characters are dumb. Shit over 200 chapters in and it goes absolutely nowhere. The mc pisses me off too. A shame too cause it’s a good concept

My biggest issues with some romance manga is that there’s either:
A) slow plot
B) un likeable MC
C) ‘humour’ that isn’t even great.
That being said there are many I do love and will read romances as there are some that are just wonderful I’m every way
And the worst part is when fans use the "character development" line as an excuse for unlikeable MCs.

In all my time reading manga, never have I EVER dropped a single one. Until I read this. Yeah, i know that romance isn't about the confession but don't make the story a shitty rougelike where every chapter we go back to square 1. I'm really starting to think that kazuya got castrated as a kid because no matter how long it took he still hasn't grown a pair to just confess.

I'm no avid manga reader by no means but I've dropped a hefty amount (whether the plot got dry or I couldn't see any end goal) and I've never went and read any long ongoing mangas such as the ones in shounen jump but if rent a girlfriend was ur first you must've had some insane tolerance to anything else you read
@@yabazyabacoffee Well, you gain quite a sense when you read the good mangas out there so I avoid the generic stuff as to not waste my time and just end up dropping them. A lot of the mangas I read are obscure and have few chapters to them so that's mostly the reason as to why I haven't dropped a lot. This just went under my radar because the concept was interesting. I mean it's basically prostitution without the good part.

He compared himself to the main character. Somehow, he was worse than him. Almost feel bad for Kazuya for that. He left me for a girl he knew for a day lmao. He always cried about his poor ex to me, pretty sure she ghosted him (for good reason) until he SENT SOMETHING TO HER HOME?? That poor girl. This anime always reminds me of that, and learning more about it, makes so much sense.
He always compared me to sumi, that makes more sense now.

I stopped reading the series sometime ago. The MC of Rent a Girlfriend just keeps making his situation worse and worse. Then he falls into these bouts of self-pity as if his life is out of his control. It’s like he gets rewarded with a harem for being a irresponsible loser.
