To be able to run with so many "systems" out of spec. is a tribute to the design of this engine. It's as though the expectation of neglect of maintenance was built-in; the designers anticipated the indiscipline of the product's owner.....?!!? A tribute to them....
Your pedagogical (sp?) manner is superb, and, even though I'll never own a MF tractor, they've earned my respect and affection. So much easier to comprehend than any "modern" car.....!
It's our hope here that you have a bountifully rainy, summer season.....just as we're expecting a warm but wet winter. Australia is due....some rain...!

Sir. Just bought a 1974 MF135 w/Perkins 3cyl Diesel. Injector pump leaking bad. I found a man that can repair/rebuild the pump; I just need to remove and mail to him. He sent me the link to your video. Thank you for an excellent "how-to" step-by-step tutorial. I'm confident--after watching your video--that I can successfully remove my tractor's pump. Will wait 'til I get the rebuilt pump back before I watch your video on how to install the fuel injector pump on the old 135s. Again, sir, many, many thanks.

@@BundyBearsShed Thanks. Ok. I need an expert's help. Got the rebuilt pump back. When I went to install the pump, back end into the timing gear mount plate, I must've pushed through that alignment pin that fits into the keyway on the pump shaft. I had a piece of cloth inside the timing gear box, but it must've slipped past. Any easy way to fish that alignment pin out without removing the whole front gear cover?

I have a 1972 MF'r, 203 ci, 4 cyl diesel, Backhoe and it is very similar to your engine and the injector pump was leaking from the top very bad. I thought I knew what I was doing but after reviewing your video I did know what I was doing. Thanks also for going over the timing of the injector pump as well. I did not find the timing marks on the flywheel but I know where the dowel pin is, and the letter for the timing mark on the pump. I’m surprised that the bolts holding the drive gear into the pump shaft didn’t have locking tabs . Nice trick stuffing some rag in there so if you drop a bolt or washer it can’t end up in the sump , i wonder how many times that has happened ! One thing with setting up timing marks on any engine is if you go past the marks by accident don’t just bump it back to them go back a quarter turn and creep up on them again . If you just bump them back the backlash in the gears or timing chain will stuff up your readings .

I have multiple problems with my Perkins 152 3 cyl on MF35. It has blown gaskets on combustion chamber twice and many leaking points on CAV pump and very hard to start (before blowing gaskets). Did my use of a lot of ether to start the tractor blow the gaskets? Is bad timing blowing the gaskets? Hard start due to fuel system air leaks, timing, injectors, or what?

If my undesrtanding is correct when the E mark on the pump is aligned with the flat end of the inj pump inner circlip and the piston #1 is
close to its TDC (firing) then you can read on the flywheel the exatc timing. The E matches with the flat end of the circlip only when the piston#1 is firing and not whan it is pushing the exhaust.. am I right?

I had to subscribe to your channel, I've got a question for you and I really hope that you've encountered it...
I'm working on a LONG 350, the metering valve has been cutting into the housing assembly and has it scored where it he's been scraping away at the aluminum.
When, I first started purging the lines, the injectors were barely pushing fuel out of the lines. They were just trickling diesel out.
Popped the cover and there's some minor aluminum shavings at the top, just below the governor.
Any clue as to what could cause the metering valve arm to score the housing up and do you believe the seals are potentially damaged?
It's been a fine tractor, but she sat all winter... That's what brought the discovery on. I can do some pictures or video if needed.
    Thank you sir

Hello I'm having some issues with my Massey Ferguson 35 it has the three cylinder Perkins diesel engine and the tractor overall runs pretty well the odd time you'll have a misfire but the issue I'm having is it has what I believe is a power loss at high RPM tractor will work fine and all its a low-range gears but if I put it in to say hi range first gear and I'm only at around half throttle the tractor will take off but then if you give it any more throttle it has no response if you give it 3/4 to Full Throttle and then depress the clutch pedal it will not rev up but as soon as you release the clutch pedal again it'll go back down to its half throttle when it does this it doesn't lug or make any weird sounds or misfires it still runs as good as it ever did it's almost like you lower the throttle whenever you release the clutch in a high range gear any help would be greatly appreciated I'm thinking it could be fuel filters fuel injection pump or possibly a bad injector but I do not know for sure I have not had the tractor for long and I'm new two diesel engines thanks

Sorry I spammed some unnecessary comments back there which I deleted. My question is: on these perkins what happens if I turned the crank while pump was out? If I am not mistaken the pump goes on only in one way because of that pin and the only possible adjustment is the tilting of the pump itself right ? my mf 35 x won't start. It always had starting problems. Im thinking it's the timing because it used to run fine after it fired as long as I can remember. I was a bit lost with this timing thing though. Is it possible the professionals I gave the pump to to be cleaned installed the circlip at a different spot and I have to compensate with different tilt? Is it possible they install it so low that I cannot time it properly anymore or is the circlip just an indicator and irrelevant to when the pump fires? My circlip seems quite low in comparison to this videos example. I will have to check letter E and see what degrees I get on the flywheel when aligned with the circlip. My compliments for all the videos you published on CAV topic. I am in trouble to remove the CAV pump from my Massey ferguson 178, 4 cylinders perkins not starting more from long time now. I undestood it is necessary to make timing phase positioning before to remove the CAV pump. I am not finding the window to check the timing in the flywhell in my tractor but looking your video you show that the CAV pump come back only in one place into the distribution gear. My doubt is: if the CAV pump make in one turn of 360 degree all the injection process for the fours cylenders is not important to check the timing before remove the pump. I mean, if the pump axes connection to the distribution gear is fixed by abliged interface positioning, during the mounting phase is not possible to make mistake with timing. Please i will appreciate a sggestion if possible to proceed in that way. Thanks Luigi

Hi Lance, winter time here in Europe and taking the chance to look again to your tutorials as I am thinking to have my CAV DPA on a AD3152 re-sealed-
My main concern is the timing: how can I have the right timing without tearing the engine head down.
If my understanding is correct I need to get the piston #1 at TDC (this can be done by taking off the valve train cover and see the valve tappets, when cylinder #3 exhausts valve is fully open) and then make sure E marks on pumps is aligned with square circlips end.
In this occasion I simply can hate the pump taken off - resealed and back again (with E mars aligned.) thus keeping the original timing as per flywheel mark.
    Where am I getting lost????

Be careful! If the pump has been restored, mechanics tend not to care too much about the positioning of reference circip! I've been told by the Bosch mechanic that he and most of the others just put it there so it holds the rotor assembly. So if your pump is not new you can't trust the only accurate method. It sucks but it's worth knowing.

Hi, I have a 135 with a perkins 3 cylinder diesel. I dont use it that much, when i got it out this year it was very hard to start and blew a lot of black smoke, and now is very low on power. I am a mechanic of 40 years but know little about these engines. I cracked each injector line and it seems to run on 3 cylinders but better on 3 than 1 or 2.I swapped around the injectors but it didnt change, the pump leaks a little fuel. It seems to have compression. What to you think the problem could be please ?

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

G Day Marty, Black smoke can mean a blocked air intake as in the inlet hose sucking in or dirty or blocked air cleaner. Another reason for black smoke can be that the implement is getting hard to drive for some reason and the governor is wide open trying to run it. If an injector is leaky that will often show up as white smoke at low revs as there is a lot of un-burnt fuel. I would check filters and inlet first.
