In Jackobsons's theory of language, there are two axes of language .They are paradigmatic which is the vertical axes of selection and syntagmatic axes which is the horizontal axes of combination. These are the basic mode of behaviour where the language users construct and understand linguistic message.

There are 2 kinds of axis paradigmatic axis that is vertical and said to be for selection and syntagmatic axis that is horizontal and said to be for combination.. these are the basic modes of behaviour which language users construct and understand linguistic messages. This process of selection and combination mingles to each other at every level of speech.
Jakobson distinguished 2 types of aphasia similarity and contiguity disorders
Similarity disorder is like for those who feels hard to select and substitute words but it’s easy for them to combine the words and be stable
Contiguity disorder is for those who feels hard to combine the linguistic words or elements and they have a very poor grammar , they can only express heaps of words and the order of the words are chaotic
