very useful. got one of these and the lens is so loose that unless i hold the black ring, it will rotate anytime i press the shutter and prevent it from firing! guess ill have to try to disassemble the front of the lens and try to tighten down the screws?

So I just got one of these off of ebay, and I've never had one before. I was wondering if it was normal for there to be a bit of "slop" in the lens where it connects to the focuser. Mine has a bit of up/down play to it. Not much, it's just not as tight as I would expect it to be on a high quality camera. It seems pristine other than that. Thanks!

Hi, my memory escapes me, it may just be a case of tightening any small screws if available, I will have to dig out my example and come back to you.....

Hi Johnny, I dug mine out at the weekend and had a look, there are screws holding the little plastic tab that your finger uses to move the focus ring, these need to be tight
As far as the actual focus ring at the back of the lens, there is a gap of about 1mm when trying to wiggle it, do you have more play on yours?
There are no visible screws so I suspect the whole lens assembly would need dismantling to find out what's loose....

@@thephotographersbag Thanks for checking. It just seems there is more play than there is in other lenses I have, so I thought it odd. Its sloppy in the focus helicoid I think.

@@virgiljohnny Hi, you are more than welcome, if you feel up to it, you could strip and re-grease it but the slack may remain as the machining isn't precise, if it were me I would just live with it, or return it if a recent purchase 😀

I'm struggling with shutter blades not opening anymore and haven't been able to figure out how to fix that yet.

Is the shutter oily, have you stripped the front lens group out, then you can clean the shutter with some methylated spirits and see if you can tease them into working, or is it a cocking/firing problem?

@@thephotographersbag There is no visible oil or oil residue on the blades from what I could see. The shutter fires at all speeds the mechanisms inside are moving but the blades don't open. It was working fine and then it stopped intermittently at first and then completely stopped opening.

Hi, will have to investigate on my one, not quite sure how the shutter works, further disassembly required, in the meantime please keep us posted on how you get on....

unable to unscrew the lens group, they are very tight. I'm stuck in 2:13.

Hi, sorry to hear that, you may need to apply some acetone (nail polish remover) to loosen any gunk that was used as locking compound, let me know if still having problems..
