Saying Palpatine is a poorly written character, I fucking hate you for that. If you watched the prequels with more than two brain cells, you could actually clearly see intentions and motives (palpatine himself makes it very clear). Also he tricked everyone, and became emperor because of his ambition, intelligence, and lust for not just evil, but power and greed, like any other dictator (also being part of the dark side naturally corrupts you).
There's an entire plot point in Harry Potter about how the wizard race is in hiding and dying out. They stay hidden because they work with world leaders to do so. The Wizards themselves say that they would be crushed out of existence overnight if they went to war with the muggles. The deal is the Wizards keep creatures like dragons, giants chimera and sphinx hidden and under control in exchange for protection. The Wizards pose zero threat to the muggles. It's the magical beasts, many of who can destroy countries and we're immune to anything the muggles could do that were the danger. A single giant could destroy a town before anything could be done (happened in the series. They thought I was a hurricane) and some dragon species were the equivalent of an entire Airforce on their own. Not to mention the dementors who would kill all of humanity if not for Wizards keeping them in check. The magical beasts maintain the status quo. Voldemort commanded those beasts. He absolutely could have destroyed all of Britain at the very least before the rest of the world started mobilizing.
Woah, that’s really cool lore, was that explained in fantastic beasts, I’ve been reading Harry Potter stuff for like the last 15 years, and I don’t think I’ve heard that before.
@Flynrider26 Tbh I find that claim doubtful; too many muggles to control from too much of a distance. And even I noticed when reading the Harry Potter books, that the wizarding world was a diminished place. Hogsmeade is literally the last 100% wizard settlement in the UK, most wizards live inconspicuously in muggle settlements and a good chunk of muggle technology had made it into the daily lives of the wizarding world (albeit it with a magical spin). The "pureblood" families can be counted on the fingers of you hands (especially after the battle of Hogwarts) and barely enough "mudbloods" are born and raised to keep the wizarding population demographics flat-lined at a net zero increase. Let us remember that the Statute of Secrecy occurred sometime in the 1600s, when muskets were only relatively effective as a long distance weapon. The primary weapons were still swords, and axes for close combat, and even then they had to go into hiding against the muggles. With today's technology, the US alone could probably solo all the magical governments, albeit it with significant casualties. And the wizarding government of the USA knows this and is downright terrified. I just never made the connection that the magical beasts are too much of a chaotic wildcard for the muggles to control.
Patrick Bateman from the book definitely has to be mentioned; the guy killed a little kid, pretended to be a doctor to "save him", and then slapped the kid's mother to get her to calm down... The movie romanticized him but in the book he's really something else.
47:58 the fly is great. I haven’t watched it in a while but it has Walter almost spilling to Jesse what he did to his girlfriend(I forgot her name). Also it is just fun
24:58 because he is a psychopath, there are books that are canon about Palpatines time in training which show that more, he is literally space mustache man. Also alot of Legends stuff up about the creation of the Sith and from the rule of two up to the movies is still canon and shows the motives of the sith and Palpatine is at then end just teh sith that finall does what the order has been working up to for thousands of years,
44:37 watch naoki urusawa's Monster. Its one of the best anime ever written. The story is not like a normal anime, in fact it couldve been a tv show and wouldve still worked, it just happened to be told in the medium of anime and manga. Naoki urusawa's Monster is a 10/10 watch
If you invested time in looking into Star Wars lore and stuff such as like, the Sith and stuff, I would so listen to you ranting about that for hours on end.
People look over Euron Greyjoy because he was a lame character in "Game of Thrones," but in the novels he is up there with Holden as potentially the most evil and scariest villain in literature.
Really happy that you talking about AM, Harlan Ellison is one of the best short story authors I've ever read and I appreciate you mentioning some characters who might be less popular or widely known.
I think the main reason I love Ethan's videos so much is because when he goes off on side tangents about stuff it reminds me of how my conversations with my friends would go down in an xbox party like 5 years ago
Nah bro look into palpatine deeper, watch lore videos, the with codes and all his scenes and you’ll realize palpatines motivations, they also dive into them into the comics as well, he is truly just a psychopath, evil incarnate lusting for power
I don’t actually think Walter really changed through the series. He was never really happy in his life and it is OBVIOUS already in the first episodes of the series. He found what he liked, he liked having power, he liked people to respect and fear him (something that clearly wasn’t the case when he was a teacher) and he, obviously, liked to do what he was good at doing. It’s like a kid who’s never been able to have fun in his entire life, and when he finally does, he can’t control himself and just goes too far; he understands what he’s doing is wrong, but he also doesn’t want to stop, so he makes up an excuse (doing it for the family) to feel better about himself
Ngl it was crazy seeing him defend Walter to the extent he did. Yes, I understand rooting for him, but how on earth can you say he was "providing for his family"?
Light isn't doing what he does out of empathy or an actual passion for justice. He does what he does because he's bored. Death Note isn't a series about how this perfect student with a bright future slowly became evil, it's a story about a spoiled manchild who was bored, got a taste of power and that power gave him the ability to satisfy his urges. Light is evil by default. At no point through out the story (at least, not the anime) does he show empathy to anyone and only ever does anything good out of a thirst for victory or a very flawed point of view on how order should be brought to the world. Even when he looses his memory, he isn't "good", he just forgot that he's evil.
Davros from Doctor Who is overlooked in this regard: - Started experimenting to turn his own species into mutant creatures whose only purpose is to hate all other life - This involved posing as a doctor and making unborn babies turn into mutants, also killing the pregnant mothers - Engineered the destruction of his own species to fully turn them into Daleks (the mutants from before) who lead lives of suffering stuck inside robotic casings - Indirect, but the Daleks are fucked up themselves and have committed all kinds of atrocities during their existence - Has turned people into food as un unnecessary step in one of his schemes - Attempted to destroy the entire multiverse and was emotionally distraught when this failed - All of this was done because of the belief that Daleks are the supreme lifeform, born as basically a projection of his insane egomania
One thing tho: We know all we need to know about Palpatine. I get your point, I just disagree with it. The Prequels were not made to make us sympathize with the Evil guy. The Prequels were not meant to show "Oh, there is more depth to everything and everyone." No. These films are supposed to show us how these characters we know and love got into the positions they are in in the OT. Not to fundamentally change who they are and how we experience them in the OT. It was not meant to add a layer of sympathy to Palpatine tho. And it was not meant to make the Sith less evil. The sith are and always have been evil. Completely. There were Sith that were morally complex, but those were the individuals. The thing about Palpatine is, that he is the Devil. He is the most pure personification of the dark side of the force and the most evil character in the entire Galaxy. Therefore he would not want to justify what he is doing. You can't imagine how dumb it would be to hear Palpatine saying something about his motives and that he has to do what he does for a good reason. NO, WHO THE HELL WOULD EVEN WANT TO SEE THAT? That is totally not the character. He works perfectly as what he is. He doesn't need a reason or a motive to be a good character. He has probably no morals. He wants UNLIMITED POWER. He is not dumb. And the viewers are also not dumb. Like... he knows what he is doing. The viewer knows it too. There is no need for him to hide from that and pretend that he is doing something good, because it would just be so freaking stupid that not even he himself could believe it. His reason IS the dark side, literally. We have heard what it can do and he is the prime example of it. And the Sith just want power. They are not complex in that way. The Sith want to be like Palpatine, so he is THE ultimate Sith. No, but seriously now. It would be dogshit if they made us sympathize with him especially, because we are not meant to be. What the Prequels did brilliantly, was showing us how that politician gained more and more power, manipulated both sides and turned out to be the absolute menace of the galaxy. (Something we can see happening in the real world too) How a single person can blind billions or more and end democracy with planned actions. Yes, he is evil for the sake of being evil. But at least there is a simple and plausible reason for that evil that is already part of the lore from the beginning.
Bro 4 Chan would figure out the inner workings of magic in a single day😂 they reworked a crystal sequence problem and made it more efficient in a couple of weeks when the best scientists couldn’t do it in 15 years. As soon as 4 Chan gets their hands on magic it’s over for the wizarding world😂😂
There’s a lot of weird and disturbing things eren has done or said in s4 or even previous seasons before that, that kind of makes it seem the rumbling was more than just to help his friends, which is terrifying when you think about it
The thing people tend to miss with Palpatine, is that he wasn't meant to be relatable to normal people. Look into his back story, he came from a wealthy family and always had a superiority complex, was always ambitious, even before he knew he was a force user.
Love the vid! But palpatine is only in 5, arguably 6 movies. He doesnt become a character until Return of the Jedi, and is only a cameo in Empire. Also, his appearance in Episode 9 barely counts because that movie and disney RUINED his to the point he could be considered a different character entirely
Very true. It was one of my favorite anime at one point but after truly getting into the genre it doesn’t hold up well outside of L and Light’s dynamic. Death Note falls off so hard at the end.
For vader's build up let us not forget how the jedi council LITERALLY TREAT THEIR OWN WHEN ONE IS BEING FRAMED AND ACCUSSED FOR A WARCRIME THAT SHE DIDN'T DO. TO THEN JUST SAY "we're sorry the force works is mysterious ways its not our fault." (Literally blaming the force instead of their dumb decisions. AND HAVING AHSOKA LOSE FULL TRUST IN THE COUNCIL CAUSING HER TO LEAVE, allowing Anakin to hate the council even more than he already had. Anakin had every right to become that evil.
I found your channel recently and think you make pretty good tier list videos. You’re way more entertaining than other TH-camrs who do this. I hope you keep making these because I can’t wait to see what gets ranked next.
I think that the “Heroes on both sides” line was referring to the fact that different organizations on opposing sides were fighting for what they believed was the right thing. Like the Separatists wanted to get away from the overreach of the Galactic Republic, meaning that they genuinely believed in something that was in their view noble. It just so happened that Palpatine and Dooku were using them as a tool. And moving on to the Sith, Dooku left the Jedi order due to their responsibility of Qui-Gon’s death, as well as their general corruption, and Anakin left because of their denial of granting him the rank of master, as well as rejecting his service in the final days of the order. So they had their reasons, which were rooted in truth. And in regards to Palpatine, he actually does have motives, with him wanting to revise the Sith, which had been in hiding for thousands of years. That and political power/totalitarianism. Palpatine isn’t the most complex villain ever, but what makes him a great villain, at least IMO, is the fact that he relishes in how evil he is, and the fact that he literally has zero redeeming qualities, which can be enjoyable to watch. Especially through Ian McDiarmid’s performance. Besides, there are several characters that benefit from this attribute. Like the Joker for example.

Edit: his motive is that he is simply pure evil and as for sympathize with the sith Sidious took maul when he was a child tortured him and made him a monster. dooku and anakin/vader were good until sidious manipulated them among other things. Sidious is the only pure evil on
And have to disagreed on palpatine being a bad character he is an pure evil mastermind simple yes but good so many f*cked uo things happend in the galaxy infact basicly every bad/evil thing in star wars happends becouse of him alone
To be honest, you are by far the best TH-camr I have seen so far, I watch every video of yours and have done so since the beginning and I have to say you really deserve it that your channel has had really good growth this year
Saying Palpatine is a poorly written character, I fucking hate you for that.
If they did fight the muggles imperio could end the war by itself
2:38 smoke detector chirp detected?! Ethan is black?!
😭😭😭
Patrick Bateman from the book definitely has to be mentioned; the guy killed a little kid, pretended to be a doctor to "save him", and then slapped the kid's mother to get her to calm down... The movie romanticized him but in the book he's really something else.
I wouldn't say the movies romanticized him but rather made him less disturbing. The book version of Bateman couldn't be made in to a movie
I absolutely love your content man please keep uploading 👍
47:58 the fly is great. I haven’t watched it in a while but it has Walter almost spilling to Jesse what he did to his girlfriend(I forgot her name). Also it is just fun
24:58 because he is a psychopath, there are books that are canon about Palpatines time in training which show that more, he is literally space mustache man. Also alot of Legends stuff up about the creation of the Sith and from the rule of two up to the movies is still canon and shows the motives of the sith and Palpatine is at then end just teh sith that finall does what the order has been working up to for thousands of years,
Well palpatine knows that he is doing evill and enjoys it
@ 1. like I said he‘s a psychopath
2. That‘s what the dark side does to you
44:37 watch naoki urusawa's Monster. Its one of the best anime ever written.
The story is not like a normal anime, in fact it couldve been a tv show and wouldve still worked, it just happened to be told in the medium of anime and manga. Naoki urusawa's Monster is a 10/10 watch
I love your yappin skills. They say everyone is good at something, you my friend are good at yappin.
love it bro u should do a tier list of all the all tomorows creatures😊
If you invested time in looking into Star Wars lore and stuff such as like, the Sith and stuff, I would so listen to you ranting about that for hours on end.
YES, we did it folks we got him to 50K and the years not over. Love your vids Eathen keep up the good work.
Funfact in the Manga Donald Trump gets the death note
what.
Pretty sure justin Trudeau does, so that way he can kill old and depressed people
I thought bro only done UFC content, but this is a big bonus amazing
Can't wait for Top 10 Crashouts in Media
Hell yeah, this is my fav topic so far. Love your videos!
Another fantastic video! Thank you
People look over Euron Greyjoy because he was a lame character in "Game of Thrones," but in the novels he is up there with Holden as potentially the most evil and scariest villain in literature.
He does specifically specify movie Palpatine. He knows Palpatine has motives in the book.
@ yes but he does state in the movies his goal is basically unlimited power that’s his thing 😂
Bro does not understand Eren Jaeger. He was not selfless and much more than "flawed"
cringeki no kyojin, eren , the konrad kurze of anime
@@albertofrankdiaz6664what are brainrot are you on?
Fr
Imagine if Thanos got rid of half of everybody’s cells
tf you mean Palpatine has no motives, he wants to rule the galaxy
Bro that's an objective not a motive
@@jacoblonsdale2923he's just a dictator that's all. I don't think Kim Jong un has a motive or Hitler or Putin
Davros from Doctor Who is overlooked in this regard:
- Started experimenting to turn his own species into mutant creatures whose only purpose is to hate all other life
- This involved posing as a doctor and making unborn babies turn into mutants, also killing the pregnant mothers
- Engineered the destruction of his own species to fully turn them into Daleks (the mutants from before) who lead lives of suffering stuck inside robotic casings
- Indirect, but the Daleks are fucked up themselves and have committed all kinds of atrocities during their existence
- Has turned people into food as un unnecessary step in one of his schemes
- Attempted to destroy the entire multiverse and was emotionally distraught when this failed
- All of this was done because of the belief that Daleks are the supreme lifeform, born as basically a projection of his insane egomania
As soon as 4 Chan gets their hands on magic it’s over for the wizarding world😂😂
just drove from dallas to houston and watched 1 video
schlawg is not anton chigurh
Daily vids gon make this channel sky rocket bro keep going!
Bro was so mad at Skyler that he forgot to talk about Walter White 💀
You should watch the anime Monster.
You HAVE to add Rick Grimes to the dictator tier list.
The voices in my head stopped thanks
There’s a lot of weird and disturbing things eren has done or said in s4 or even previous seasons before that, that kind of makes it seem the rumbling was more than just to help his friends, which is terrifying when you think about it
I love this dude so much, the way he yaps is impeccable.
New here and enjoying what I'm seeing!
skipping AM from "I have no mouth yet I must scream" ain't right. part 2 when??
this will be great backround noise for while i play warframe
The thing people tend to miss with Palpatine, is that he wasn't meant to be relatable to normal people. Look into his back story, he came from a wealthy family and always had a superiority complex, was always ambitious, even before he knew he was a force user.
Skyler gave that money to Ted to keep the IRS off her back.
Palpatine is intelligent enough to know what he is doing is bad
He is just a psychopath in a world with powers for people like him
Great video man 🤙
Think we forgot that light is a mysogynist and wanted to ruin his dads soul by making him write mellos name in the deathnote
Nah man Death Note started cool but jumped the shark big time. I would say it's a great premise but kinda failed for me
Very true. It was one of my favorite anime at one point but after truly getting into the genre it doesn’t hold up well outside of L and Light’s dynamic. Death Note falls off so hard at the end.
@@The_Hendrix lol, I think Ethan agreed, since he said there were only 37 episodes. XD ‘there is no war in ba sing say’ vibes.
First 2/3 was S tier, last 1/3 was C tier
Yeah
Near got some crazy ahh plot armor
When L dies it’s the clear end for me
You forgot Vader slaughtered kids lol
What are everyone’s favorite Attack on Titan characters? For me it is Erwin Smith
Palpatine just wanted power and immortality. Didn't really explain his motives
After that season finale of penguin that monster belongs on this list lol
Anakin had every right to become that evil.
the fly is a good episode, its so unique and introspective
Clicked the video unaware that I would see the MMA guy lol
I found your channel recently and think you make pretty good tier list videos. You’re way more entertaining than other TH-camrs who do this. I hope you keep making these because I can’t wait to see what gets ranked next.
Good job man
Can't say Jedi didn't care about the war they definitely did it was never ending because of doku and palpatine machinations
No joker is crazy
Hawk tuah India respect Sigma tier
Nahh man judge holden is the GOAT of evil💯💯
This guy is hella entertaining bruh😂
its interesting how you put griffith and the judge together because essentially they are both massive manipulators
Sauron wants total order through the domination of Middle-Earth
Morgoth (Saurons master and creator) wants absolute destruction and chaos to the entire universe
Frieza?? I know Buu & Cell and even Beerus was all stronger but Frieza was like THEE BAD GUY. Alsooooo please don’t go off Rings Of Power for your LOTR Lore. I will call anyone out.
waltuh, ethanoneverything put you in a video waltuh
“The Fly” was a masterpiece
You should make a video on anton chigurh
Yes! He's my favorite maccarthy villian
Yes! He's my favorite maccarthy villian
After the last episode of Penguin you can add Oswald Cobb as well
Sopranos > Breaking Bad
