at $150 these 2 player models with the new screens are amazing. i bought 3 of them. the Marvel model, it’s volume isn’t as loud as TMNT. id like to see a one player version of these for more hand room on the deck. player 2 can just plug in a controller
Pro tip: you can get the pause menu instantly by pressing 1p start and 2p start simultaneously rather than pressing and holding 1p start (and waiting) for 5 seconds.
Excellent review. Just came across this machine today, and was super enamored. Size is a bit of a bummer though. I don't play 2 player often, but since it's available, it'd be nice if it facilitated the ability. I wish it had Children of the Atom like the big cabinet, but that's just because that game has a special place in my heart. I think the lineup here is still really stellar. I think that this counter-cade is a shining light in A1Up's library. Firstly, I think the controls are a HUGE improvement over the cabs I already own; especially the joystick...it it tight and accurate. I have no issues with balance when I play on my counter/bar. I also like the buttons...they are stiff and responsive. The monitor is awesome and the game selection is second to none. I think $229 is an absolutely reasonable price all things considered. Until I get my MKII counter-cade, I am very satisfied with this purchase. Cheers, Brent

I am excited to see the nba jam and tmnt versions as well. I also am very interested in the pong countercade. I love these and really the only 1up products that I purchase. Simpsons would be awesome in a countercade variant.
Just finished testing mine out and I agree with everything. In addition, as a con, mine had a few particle board dust specs on the screen and a few little scratches on the screen; but they are barely visible during actual gameplay. Also, removing the plastic wrap involved me having to unscrew a lot of the system to properly remove every piece of it (as others on TH-cam have mentioned). They should have mentioned that in the instructions included. As for the wobbly problem, I didn't have a problem with mine thankfully but with the Super Pac-Man countercade we have here, I unscrewed and played around with the feet at the bottom of the unit and it helped the problem a bit. But ultimately, had to use the power cable itself or put a piece of cardboard under one of the feet to stabilize it.

I’d add: 1) the control deck is only a couple of inches narrower than a 3/4 scale 2p unit. It’s not that cramped, but it also means these look small but take up more room than you think they will. The biggest 2p challenge is looking at the same 8 inch screen, not using the control deck, though a “V shaped” deck that faced out at an angle and used the side space might have made this a lot better without taking up a much bigger footprint. 2) I agree that 1p controls and wifi would have been better. Leaving off wifi is a huge miss just in terms of their eco system. These counter units having wifi would have added value to these, but also to their full size cousins. 3) these little units are gorgeous. Like irrationally so. I stupidly want the 2p TMNT countercade even though I have turtles in time on order just because these are so cool looking. Not actually planning to buy one, but still kinda want. 4) this Marvel variant with the 6 button standard layout deck is gonna be a modders wet dream for custom countercade pie mods.
Fun Fact in Marvel vs capcom clash of super heroes you can turn Ryu into Akuma, Ken also Zangief as mecha zangief and on Marvel superheroes vs street fighter, Marvel vs capcom clash of super heroes you can play hidden secret characters too
Great thorough review Pdubs, appreciate the time and effort in providing the finer details. I'm with you: if this were a 1 player control deck, had a 10' screen, and had wifi... I'd be all in on the Gen3 countercades. My 3/4 Marvel Super Heroes (I fully modded with 20' screen, BigBox running on PC, Happ sticks/buttons) was sold...I do miss it but had to make the tough decision to make more space in the basementcade. As it is, given the form factor, price, and space limitations I'll be (reluctantly) sittin this one out.

I love my msh countercade. I would have liked to have wifi and I found that a USB controller controls a little bit better than the joystick, but they did a great job overall

It’s a great little Arcade and I agree 👍🏻 on WiFi inclusion vs 2 player. They probably would have gotten heat if they would have made it 1 player only. For 150 this was an absolute steal!!
I have a switch oled and when i Game i'm in the Game Lost in time. Also i agree with You, one player online/wifi because i can take it on Road trips/Friends house etc.

Can someone help me? I have this arcade and somehow it is stuck on the marvel game now and I cannot get it to get to a home screen or anything. None of the buttons work that the instructions tell you to press.

I wish they had Terminator 2 this size with a gun that had haptic feedback recoil of some sort and I hear the speaker is on the bottom. Why couldn't they put it in the marquee? Is it possible to relocate the speaker? I would mod that.
That screen size and form factor is just ridiculous for a 2 player setup. I would have preferred single player linkable countercades vs that 2 player deck. Wifi cross-compatibility with the upright units would be a home run. Would have been a way to sell upgrade PCB+WiFi kits to owners of those units as well.
I was honestly more hyped to play Xmen Vs Street Fighter which i played first on this cab lol, think about it, we never got an arcade perfect port of that game in North America it was only on the Japanese Sega Saturn and the PS1 version was butchered. No other ports so, this cab is the first time im playing XvsSF in AGES.
Just DON'T. I bought this thing using two $50 Target gift cards leaving me with a little over $62 left for me to pay out of pocket and I STILL don't think it was worth it. This product is overpriced and not practical. Just DON'T.
Also... My screen washes out a bit viewing it from the right of it. It's not Gen 1 bad; it just darkens slightly. Additionally, looking closer at the imperfections of the screen, I am hypothesizing that two pixels are misconfigured/dead/over-stimulated (I don't know the correct term; help me out if you could) but the pixel on the screen is showing a rainbow of colors versus the correct one it should be displaying. By the way, which model are you reviewing here? I have the MRV-C-01343 . I imagine they only released one model of this so far since my unit was produced in 08/2021 and I purchased it on August 6th of this year (2022).
This is awsome but honestly for 230 it shouldn't wobble and the 2 player should be a little bigger. 7months later there anywhere from 150 to 175 that price feels better lol for whatever reason.
Nice review Pdubs but for me these machines need to have the Live option otherwise I would simply turn this one down. But for those who don't have much room or care to play online with other people. Then I would suggest you grab this one!

I'm having issues with my cabinet. It automatically loads up marvel super heroes and I can't change games despite holding down the 1p button

Well - you can remove the back of the cabinet and also remove the bottom of the control deck and plenty of space in both areas.
