Yes. Spot on. China will and is diversifying to the rest of the world. The problem with the US politician's mentality and thinking is that they still think that the US is the world itself although it only represents a very minor part. The world has 199 other countries and more than 8 billion people vs 1 country and 350 million people. That itself speaks why China is moving towards the developing Global South where the real future is.

China dares the US to raise tariffs to 60% across the board. Do it! :) That'll crash the US economy in less than 6 months. :)
Just imagine the chaos and anger when you go to Costco, Walmart, Sam's and you either see rows after rows of empty shelves or prices that have more than doubled. For those who don't know economics, the US is not going to be making all the goods that China produces. Other countries are not going to be making all the goods that China produces since you can take all of them together, and still they don't match China's production capabilities.
In addtion, even if you can make products in other countries, other countries do not have the infrastructure to handle the production. Think electricity demand, think ports and roads, think skilled labor.
So the US is stuck with higher prices if tariffs were raised. On the other hand, China can get nearly all of its products from the US elsewhere. :) So let's go, let's run with 60%-100% tariffs on all Chinese goods. It'll be a dream come true for a lot of China bashers, so let's make it happen this time and see how it goes. :)

People think that the price hike will only be on electronics from Chinese brands, what they don’t realize that most of the even American made brands use Chinese made steel, or have Chinese components. That means the price of everything will go up. Everything. Tariffs will bring up tax income, but that will be equaled in inflation, and subsequently, the dumping of American dollars will only increase that inflation across the board. U.S. also has a labor shortage, add that to the less immigration because of Trump U.S. industry will likely be unable to adjust in time to make up for holes in the supply chain. Which means, all prices go up, while consumer purchasing power goes down, and a number of U.S. business go out of business as they see their sales plummet and costs sky rocket.

Ask Australia and Japan about that. When the U.S. government wants research, the result is determined before actual research begins. And if for some unknown reason the investigation heads in the wrong direction, it disappears. Much of what the government does is done to shape public opinion. If the tariffs fail, there will be another major change in power in the U.S. Government. Every sector of the American economy does not make cars.
