    One great thing about the valley is its relatively low population density for a city of its size. Everything is so spread out that people tend to be at a distance from you most of the time. That makes it feel safer. The low density/low traffic is super apparent after visiting LA, for eg. I joke that people in Phoenix really value their personal space.

    • @complexobjects
      @complexobjects 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people don't like winters that don't last from Oct to late March. The hot season feels very different here due to low humidity. "Dry heat" is very real and you GET USED TO IT. This is what ppl don't get.
      Not that I need to sell the area. The population is exploding beyond comfort.

    What to do in Phoenix: #1 hiking! #2 enjoying 100 degree weather from may until the end of October! #3 hiking ! #4 Drinking! some ppl think the party scene here is like Vegas, well you are in luck cause instead of going to Vegas just party here you'll pay the same price. You can spend 10k on bottle service here too if you are itching to spend your money! #5 museums, we have some of the best museums in the....just kidding I meant to say hiking lol #6 Golfing! especially if you have money to blow or you love 110 degree weather #7 did I mention hiking? You'll realize when you get here everyone loves to mention hiking #8 sporting events, our game tickets are just as expensive or more expensive as any other big market city now. Enjoy paying a ton of money just like you do in LA #9 I hope you enjoy hiking especially with hundreds of other ppl on the mountain with you hoping that you go faster because they are on the 5th run up the mountain, because yep, they have nothing better to do #10 Eating, we have all the fast food chains in the country all here.

    The restaurants downtown were good pre-pandemic. God only knows how many will survive. But here are a few things that prospective visitors should know: Much of the downtown area lacks sufficient parking. Public transportation is dicey. There is quite a homeless problem (mostly drug induced, but certainly not limited to the downtown area since Phoenix has a HUGE population of addicts and insane people). Driving downtown is not easy due to all of the one way streets (you may find your destination only to discover that you have to drive an extra mile, making several turns, just to be able to access it. And the downtown area is not designed for pedestrian traffic like most major cities back east. But if you don't mind driving around in circles in 110 degree heat while being yelled at my insane people and people high on meth, you may enjoy all that downtown Phoenix has to offer.
    The viewer should note that the video is a bit misleading, too, regarding the neat things that "Phoenix' has to offer. Many of the cool things in Tempe and Scottsdale, two cities that are more pedestrian friendly, are quite far from downtown Phoenix. The Phoenix area is MASSIVE, thanks to urban sprawl. When so many things are packed into this kind of video, a viewer could be led to think that visiting them all would be easy. These things are far apart... and often VERY expensive (at least in comparison to the average wage in Arizona, which is very low).

    • @AmranShah
      @AmranShah ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim, looking to possibly move there from dumpster fire Portland. So, the drug problem is horrific there too? maybe i should move to Austin then. Any more insight on this? Is it everywhere or constrainted in only certain parts of the city?

    • @timward3116
      @timward3116 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AmranShah Hi Amran. Yup, the dumpster fire is here, too. It doesn't seem to matter whether a governnment is Republican or Democrat or whether the state is red, blue or purple.
      Regarding where the problems are, they are all over the Phoenix metro area, but some areas are much more affected than others. My estimate is that about 80% of Phoenix ranges from very bad to not very bad, and 20% is very nice and pretty expensive relative to Phoenix pay (but maybe not Portland pay). Regarding the suburbs, I think the same is true, but the nice suburbs tend to be east of Phoenix or about 20 miles west of Phoenix.
      Phoenix metro is literally the drug hub of the nation. Virtually all fentanyl in the country passes through Arizona, and Phoenix is the primary base (I believe) for the Sinaloa drug cartel, which it has been for decades. Back in the 1990s, a Mexican friend asked me to take him to a particular bar to see if his brother was there. We entered the place. The first thing that hit me was the pungent smell of urine. The small bar was packed with Mexican men, and several were shouting offensive words at me in Spanish and laughing. I smiled, pretending not to understand what they were calling me, and when my friend reappeared, we left. A couple of weeks later, I read in the Sunday Arizona Republic that five people were shot at that bar and that it was a frequent meeting place for the cartel. I'm so glad I stood there looking stupidly ignorant of what they were saying. If they knew that I understood some Spanish, they might have killed me. Looking dumb is my gift LOL.
      I don't like Phoenix. I've lived in Chicago, Montreal, and Ireland - but most of my life has been right here. I much preferred all three of the other places, but Phoenix is really home. It's where my loved ones are, where most of my memories were created, and where my professional network has been. So I stay. And it really isn't that bad if you're willing to lower your standards. I hear LA is much worse than Phoenix (wouldn't know, though). Austin has a pretty good reputation. Probably not relevant or a practical move for you, but I actually LOVED Montreal. It is the most beautiful, most magical place I've ever been (went to school there for two years). Just for fun, you should check out a 12-minute TH-cam video called "The Montreal Metro is a Masterpiece!" And that's just the part of the city that's underground! Hope all that helps!
