I don't think anyone could think that you did anything wrong with Baby Jay. Your donkeys are obviously well-loved. Baby Jay will be missed by all!

Maybe a way to ween slower would be to separate in day but permit together at nite...to start the process..if they stress out.
I am so sorry to hear about baby J. While watching your video I was wondering and thinking the what ifs. I went to a couple of sites and learned that with donkeys their reaction to things are different than horses or other livestock. I won't quote what I read but raising donkeys is a difficult task for anyone. You might want to ask your vet about having Pepper in with the donkeys based on what I read but if that was a problem then I would think that wild pigs would be just as bad around them also. I've pretty much given up on having pets because all of mine have taken a bit of me with them. May God bring y'all comfort.

You guys did not do anything wrong, as Daniel said, owning livestock comes with losses. I’m so sorry for the loss of Baby Jay and Bella. Has not been a easy month for you. It was amazing to see the way Daniel comforted you through your sadness. You are lucky. I’m glad you got back out there to comfort Jesse. She needed you as much as you needed her.

So sorry to hear about Jays passing. I’m glad to hear that you’re going to vaccinate for tetanus. Paw Paw Morrow almost lost his donkey,Ivan to tetanus, over a year ago. It was a tense time him. Gratefully, Ivan made it, with the prayers and love of family and page followers.

I am so very sorry for the lose of baby Jay. It is never easy loosing a furbaby. You are all in my thoughts & prayers. Happy St. Patrick's day to you all. A sad day for me today as it would of been my Mama 96th birthday today. I know I will see her again when Our Heavenly Father calls me home to. God bless you all.
My deepest condolences.💔 Last summer was similarly devastating for us, horse, cat, two goats. I'm glad you have the new babies on the way. You're right they don't replace the one we lost, but they do distract while we heal. My very wise vet knows this. Weeks after losing our old man (almost 35 the opposite end of the spectrum), I was horseless for the first time in 45 years. My daily routine began every day, drinking my coffee on the deck, while the horses over the years, until was just Spirit, ate his breakfast. Their fence line was up to the deck, so I literally sat beside them as they ate everyday. Now I couldn't even go out there anymore. One afternoon a few weeks later, the equine vet comes up the drive, hauling a trailer. I was confused. No reason for him to be coming here. I thought the office staff made an error and sent him here by mistake. They didn't. He backed up to the gate and opened the trailer door. Out comes not one or two, but five young foals. Didn't ask, just showed up with them. After unloading them, he unload bags of milk replacer and bottles. When I asked what he thought he was doing, he just said "you need them and they need you." Climbed back in his truck and left. Turns out they had been seized and awarded to him by the court. They were babies and needed care, so I cared for them. While doing so, I was significantly distracted. By the time they were weaned, I was able to drink my coffee on the deck again. You will be drinking your coffee again too.

I'm so sorry. Between Bella and Jay, I'm heartbroken. I can't imagine the hurt you've been going through. They were both beautiful souls. I can't begin to explain how much their lives have impacted mine.

It's hard when you have a warning that something may be coming, like with Bella, but when you have no warning, as with Jay, it can hurt so much more.😢
I 110% agree.
It is hard. I found my baby already gone. I call it discovery day and still hurts to this day.
Sometimes you can do your best with animals and the end can still be heartbreaking. You do a great job caring for critters.
My Grandfather used to say "where you have live ones, you"ll have dead ones." And while that is true, it does nothing to ease the pain of losing someone you love. In Australia if we have a sudden death we tend to look for snakebite first, although that is obviously not the case for you. You will never forget her, and you have so many wonderful videos of her. I pray your pain eases with time.

I am SO very sorry for the sudden loss of Baby Jay. That's heartbreaking! It has to be frustrating to get a necropsy done and still not have a definitive answer to the issue to hopefully prevent it from happening to the other animals. Earl KNEW something was wrong and that you needed him. On a brighter note, it's good to see JR becoming more friendly.

So sorry guys. I follow two donkey rescues on Facebook and Jay is the 3rd baby donkey death in a month. It just wrecks me when I read news like this. I’m sure you are caring for them the very best you can. Baby donkeys seem to crash quickly and randomly. Hugs!

Y’all will have to excuse me I’m not up to date on how all this works. I know I follow and care about y’all. You are a great family. In my picture you will see my great grandson and my dog a white German Shepard. I am 72 years old and on 9/11 I will be 73. So I’m not a person that hasn’t seen a lot in my day. My father was a rancher/farmer so I also know the hard work y’all put into your place. I know of the love the animals can give and how hard it is to loose a farm animal. I cried when I saw your sweet baby laying on the ground. I’m here to tell you these people that follow y’all, love y’all. We watch your happiness and your sorrow. We watch your children grow up in front of us. Now I’m not counting those nutty trolls that say some of the dumbest and hurtful things. Y’all have real friends on here our hearts ❤️ break when something happens to y’all.
I'm so sorry! Losing animals is one of the hardest things to go through, and I absolutely know the feeling. I'm also sorry the necropsy didn't give you a definitive answer about what happened to her. I hope all of your other animals stay healthy and happy.
