This waiata (song) was inspired by the events of Te Ranga in 1864 where British Soldiers massacred and slaughtered 120 māori women, children and men as revenge for losing a fair battle at Pukehinahina 2 months earlier to the māori. Such a beautiful response and reminder to something so awful that happened to our people.

Kiaora Jaybee, I'm guessing you felt your own ancestors. That is so beautiful. Don't be scared, they love you. If you don't know many of them, they definitely know you. Peace to you from Aotearoa.😊

So powerful at the end. Every Maori on this earth has that ferociousness inside of them. It is our ancestors speaking from our DNA. 😊

Outstanding. Teeks is a superstar but so humble. He stands alongside the amazing choir and orchestra rather than needing to stand in front of them. It touches my soul. Ataahua ❤

The APO is the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra (Auckland is a major city here in Aotearoa, New Zealand)
The beauty and power within this waiata is so amazing and shows how beautiful our people are after so much that has happened to us.
Thank you for always doing our people justice and the connection you have with our people and culture ❤❤❤

Really powerful & and sad, the recognition of the extinction of one's race I'm so grateful that you survived the British invasion & enslavement. The power you feel is the ancestors of the fallen this is Māori & is real and this is New Zealand.

Honesty i cried especialy the last part. The fire will never be extinguished, it is a fire that burn so bright it will consume the darkness of night. Atleast thats my translation lol. And woth the trying time we as Māori are having right now it is a becon of strength. I absolutely Love what you do to connect people through music and in so doing sharing our cultures, our history and our stories. Thank you so much truly apreciate you and how much you do.
