      Yes. He hasn't even won an ATP 1000 Master Series so who the hell cares about anything else. Maybe if he walked normally without hunching his back like a 100 year old senile old man then maybe he can win something valuable. Is that okay with you James or would you like more?

Inventive, out of body level tennis Nick, a pure joy to watch tennis played at such a level, that so few in the world are capable of reaching. Bloody well done mate. So sweet, sublime.

    Future of tennis is fake outs and cat & mouse games. Everyone has trained for power baseline game. Now, Kyrgios comes in and makes them guess on every shot and plays to a different script making them confused and losing points.

    • @yannickmethorst9158
      @yannickmethorst9158 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I don't know if it's genius, but he makes the most of his two world class skills: power and soft hands. He lacks stability (mental from time to time and in terms of his physical game with his strokes within rallies) but when he plays the way he does, that doesn't matter because he keeps it fun for himself and he keeps his opponents off balance.
      A good way to counter this for power baseliners is to just bore the shit out of him. Keep the balls deep, make predictable but decent choices. I think Medvedev's tactical plan in the final pretty much succeeded, he just wasn't there for the big points and lost 2 tie breakers.

    • @severusfloki5778
      @severusfloki5778 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am not a tennis fan. But always though that the bunch of them professionals were idiots sometimes. They trade for 1 minute with powershots, lose unnecessary effort and points by not playing it easy. In many occasions I was thinking that they could just send the ball near the net and make it bounce twice, as the opponent is like 7 meters away.

    This guy is good for the game, no doubt about it. One of the few players I’d pay good money to watch cause one thing is certain: you will be entertained. If he can cut down a little on the swearing and aggressive unsportsmanlike behaviour (which I admit is asking for a lot) and find a balance that will enable him retain his personality, he’d be the next RF and RN, loved and adored by all. Let’s face it everyone loves a bit of crazy and madness otherwise life will be pretty boring. We can’t all dot the i’s and cross the t’s and sit pretty, spine straight and knees crossed. Having said that, respect for the game, the fans, and his opponents must be observed. He’s got the skills, the entertainment value, the star factor he only needs to learn to be a bit more in control of his mouth and his body language. This tournament shows he can achieve all that. Jolly good show, young man. Well done.

    Honestly, I like what he does because I'm sick and tired of this whole mannerism shenanigans going on in the tennis world where people insist that there is "the right way" to play the game. His mixture of typical strong serve and baseline plays with additional fake shots, underhand serve and funky net plays really add variety to the game and I hope some of other players can adopt his attitude and don't simply play their games out with grindy baseline strategies

    • @ricklee5431
      @ricklee5431 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      cck3 - You've been reading my thoughts. Until relatively recently a 'tweener' was frowned upon by every single Australian tennis commentator. Those who used to be tennis players themselves were the worst.
      Enter Kyrgios. He's been around for what - 5 or 6 years now? Even NOW I hear mumbles of displeasure when Nick does a tweener. When asked why the answer is something like 'not in the tradition of the game' .
      We might as well be in church.

      Can't agree with you more, I think Baseline Game nowadays is quite boring especially if both players wouldn't take a risk at all.

    • @lavielemond
      @lavielemond 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgep6495 First off, I do find it somewhat ironic that you can't spell the word buffoon when you cast such aspersions at others, mate...
      Second, although NK can certainly be very entertaining to watch at times, you've perfectly illustrated just how little you know about the game when you claim that NK is "one of the GOATs" of the game, when he's never even made it to the semi-final of a single 'grand slam' & he hasn't even progressed further than the 3rd round at Roland Garros or Flushing Meadows!
      And finally, following on from your GOAT claim re: Kyrgios, the things that ACTUALLY MATTER when assessing such a thing are winning "titles, points" & much of what you referred to as "all other shenanigans"!! Of course entertainment of fans is important in any spectator sport but that alone isn't what makes you a legend of the sport, dude...& hopefully one thing that Kyrgios' lack of incredible performances (when it really counts, despite his wonderful talent) do for newcomers to the game like yourself is teach them that sublime talent without hard work & discipline will only get you so far in tennis, as in life...

    Kyrgios is one of a kind.He's consistent. Consistent in having mood swings and i like that.Even when he has days where he just blows off.
    To be honest.I admire Federer a lot but its much more entertaining and exciting for me to watch Kyrgios on a good day than the dream of every mother-in-law mr.perfect Roger Federer.
    Kyrgios' behaviour and the way he inerprets tennis won't let him win a lot of big titles,or a top 3 ranking,maybe even not top 10.But he will be remembered much more in the future than many other players who maybe won a GS title,or have been top 10 for several years.(eg Cilic and others)Thats for sure.For example how many of you remember Thomas Johanson and his achievements? ;)
    Players like him or Fognini are giving the atp tour that extra something which by all means is simply necessary for the tour!

    The whole point I'm getting from following comments of both haters/lovers is that Nick is good for the game as long as he plays the "GAME" & leave everything behind on court, question remains how frequently & consistently will he do that?

      @@googlestore4830 yes, exactly... in one tournament. He will occasionally have a good tournament and play some awesome shots, but that's about it.

    • @googlestore4830

      @@joosiej85 Agree. Dustin's performance is notoriously inconsistent, as is Kyrgios' or Monfils', for that matter. Based on the merits of raw talent only, Dustin is right up there with Nick, Gaël, Nadal or Federer. On pure entertainment value, Dustin and like players bring the spectator much more for what is their money worth.
