Taraji has a right to speak up but the timing she chose definitely ruined the press for the movie. People expecting everyone to risk their jobs to speak up for Taraji but were was she when Monique spoke out against Oprah?? No one defended Monique and Oprah did her the WORST.
She was just starting out!!! She didn’t have anything under her belt. And Monique did more than speak up…she burned bridges while she was standing on them. Its not fair to ask ppl to take that kind of risk
@@HtineTEE Monique didn’t burn bridges she was blackballed for speaking about no pay and Oprah interviewed her abusive brother. Taraji was already 10 years into her career when this happened and never once spoke up for Monique. Now her career will face the same struggles Monique’s did for speaking out.
She shouldn't be blamed, but make no mistake, she didn't help it either. And for a film that people were already on the fence about (especially a musical re-make version), a stress and controversial free promotion was definitely needed.
I feel like it's so many stories that can be told about us as black women without us being humiliated, abused, angry, and mistreated. I am tired of the same old narrative, No one in Hollywood is being creative and coming up with original works, instead they are taking classics and making them musicals. BLACK WOMEN DESERVE BETTER ACROSS THE BOARD!!!!
Yes, I think that when someone does come up with a good idea, there's no money for it in Hollywood. As a true "minority in numbers" here in the U.S. they see us as not having the cash. But we have it for everything else.
And now I know why I was soooo into the early 2000's culture when I was in my teens. I couldn't see life getting any better in terms of the vibe, the arts and entertainment. People who knew me probably thought I was 'off' but now everyone can see that from the 2010's up to now, this ain't really it entertainment wise. Why can't they make a modern day Love Jones type movie, what happened to all those funny Hood movies and Black American romcoms? I really thought Think Like a Man was the beginning of a new generation of those types of films, but nothing much really came out of it.
Right! As a kid I remember the sadness in this movie, so I did not get excited to re-watch it even with an amazing cast. I'll watch it when it streams at home. I have Harriet Tubman on my Netflix list and still hesitate to watch it because of the sadness I know I'll see.
@@gissellel663 Our parents had NO business showing us the Color Purple, I remember feeling trauma when Ms Sofia said 'Hell no' to the wyte lady and was made to face the repercussions- and how she got humbled physically. That whole film was brilliant but too much to be showing a young child.
I think the time for these types of films has passed. Equally… the victim narrative for black women has been used so much people are desensitized. Time for resilient and defiant joy. Danielle Brooks is giving that energy. Let’s move on and create NEW art. Hollywood is always beating the same dead horse.
Black female actors should understand that its not BLACK PEOPLE holding the purse - yt people run these studios so they control the money. We need our own lane because people who are not us won't EVER care.
I don’t think it’s fair to speculate that taraji is going through financial difficulties just because she’s calling out unfair pay. Even if her bank account was bussing through the seams, she deserves to be paid fairly and it’s hurtful.
Quick tip don't make assumptions about someone's life. Just because Taraji was explaining why she felt the way she did it does not mean that she herself is going through something. It sounded to me that she was just tired from being abused by the production companies and taking that with grace, as she has mentioned in her interviews.
Exactly I felt that was very rude and tasteless and for a blogger who speaks on subjects like these you can’t be to caught up in YOUR OPINION instead focus on the story and the narrative
@@levellk.behatti942 This is how she is. After a few years, you will get used to it tbh. We called her out on this. Use your own brain and think for yall self. She sometimes states her opinions as facts...so you just gotta take it as is...an opinion. Try not to take it personally...cause I think most of the time, it's not with her...just what she honestly thinks. So it is what it is. I doubt billionaire Lady O needs or is looking for attention. She's successfully been in the game for decades. She gets attention whether she wants it or not. Taraji needs to talk to her agent, about her contracts/gigs.
Exactly. It’s so odd people hate Oprah as much as they do. Is she a perfect person? No! But should a dark skin black woman only be perfect to be respected? I just saw a comment on another video “i’ve always been suspicious of Oprah”… WHY!? Also if it’s not Vivia Fox’s lived experience, it’s not, what do you want her to do!? Meanwhile nobody is talking about WB, the one that were responsible for the budget, not Oprah.
@@wandajones4030Do you consider her disrespectful documentary and slander of Michael Jackson AFTER he died successful? Her demeaning of other black folks and uplifting of other alleged SA is disgusting. She’s horrible.
I was 2 years old when The Color Purple came out, so I was literally RAISED on this movie. Unpopular opinion: I have no desire to see this musical remake. A re-colorized anniversary remake would've been wonderful, but this remake was unnecessary and unflattering after all this. I'm 40 years old and have seen enough of the struggle; it exists in the archives for those who feel that it is necessary for our girls to see in perpetuity. But as a 40 year old black woman, I've had enough of the struggle narrative. I want new and modern storylines showing normal a-- black women as we are, right now, in this moment in time. Not as enslaved people, not as chattle and sexual relief to a share cropping man. We've shown that part of our history ad nauseum and some of us are tired.
Thank you!! This re-imagining was so unnecessary. Oprah wasn’t even the star of the original, she’s constantly attaching herself to this movie like she can’t get past not being nominated for an Oscar back in 1985-86 🙄
I am sorry I do not instead of watching the movie people are wondering about the beef going on. Fantasia and other black actresses needed to be seen and heard as well. Taraji has been in this game for a long time. She did not just start feeling under appreciated. And yes she can still be a great actress and still get underpaid but why did she not mention this movies ago.
Unpopular opinion but i think Taraji’s transparency was RIGHT ON TIME. She knew it was a risk but the cause was greater than the risk. She moving like she cares that there are younger black girls she wants to educate & give the right tools to in her industry. I respect that, especially since i don’t see that often from older women. Then the fact that this is during The Color Purple press run… of all movies.. Given what the original color purple is about, how could we not pay attention? . Lol the ones that needed to hear this heard her loud & clear and will move accordingly.
She will get blackballed, she would be held accountable if the movie does not do well it’s a 140 million dollars and Oprah is well known for her shady moves behind the scene there is no way she is gonna change her ways she never took responsibility for any feud Whoopi and Moniq can tell. She has the power and as a producer she could have avoid all this drama by doing the right thing giving the cast what they deserve but she does not care because she is selfish
I personally don't think her speaking out has anything to do with this movie not doing well. It's failing because it's a repeat of something that's already been done and ppl are tired of the pointless reboots. Also, the minute ppl seen and heard that movie was full of singing these folks said hell nahh. Taraji had nothing to do with the downfall.
I Agee with you. This “remake” was unnecessary but unfortunately because Taraji spoke up, they will make it look like she’s the reason it underperformed meanwhile people were just not interested in watching it. They needed a scapegoat.
Agreed. Also in this day and age African Americans are losing interest in the slavery type, black “struggle love” movies. It’s 2024 ya know. So it doesn’t surprise me it isn’t doing well on top of like you said being a remake.
@@CoffinKitten I agree. The Black community is tired of movies depicting black characters going through traumatic things. That's why I'm excited to see the new movie American fiction. It has Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Jeffrey Wright. It's a movie about black authors and it seems more modern
Wait one gosh darn minute - young Celie - Phylicia - was not invited to the Golden Globes!? But she was so pivotal to the film! I'm sorry? Folks who weren't present in the film nearly as much as her, are getting more press too. This is unacceptable.
Warner Brothers dropped the ball and unfortunately people are trolling Oprah pinning the blame on Oprah. I’m no fan of Oprah at all but blaming her for Warner Brothers blunder makes no sense.
It's so crazy that Hollywood just won't accept that people are sick and tired of remakes. Even if this is a beautiful amazing reimagining, the barrage of half-assed remakes we've been subjected to for the past decade just has people burnt out. Also, money is tight and most of us are already paying for streaming services - Just saying.
Kudos for Taraji P. Henson for speaking up and using her platform during the press. Better now than after the hype goes down. Black Artists deserve better and MORE!! Especially A+List movie stars!! She has the success to talk about it. 🙌
I understand Taraji's plight but it was not an appropriated time since it was around the launch of the remake of the Color Purple. It shows a level of conflict and it would be seen as bad publicity and in turn may negatively affect sales.
I think people are conflating the VALITIDY of Taraji's plight with the JUSTIFICATION of her actions. Her plight IS valid. But, her actions are unjustifiable. @@victorstrong7378
Well, the hype has gone down. Very quickly. Her comments are probably one of the factors that added to that. Studios will remember the distraction this caused.
Exactly 💯 I can’t believe all of these people are defending Oprah! Look at what she did to Michael Jackson. Where is her documentary about her friend Harvey Weinstein and HIS allegations?
That part and empressive he’s trying to take the blame off of Oprah! Oprah should’ve made sure before they start filming that everything was in place. Trailers, food for the acting team, and drivers for the crew to get to work every day. Oprah is a smart woman, so why didn’t she ask these questions? I’ll tell you why she didn’t ask these questions… Because she was trying to save money!
Older women like Oprah can be problematic af. Taraji has a right to speak up for herself and cast members. I am tired of the struggle movies though. Life is hard enough.
Taraji was the problem!! 🎯 And Taraji is up in age too and now producers won't even touch her out of fear that she will RUIN their films or tv shows too!💯🤦🏾♀️ This was the wrong place and time to discuss pay. @@Pretty_BlaqGyrlshe’s going to be like that white women Katherine Heigl when she started complaining about her show and movies and hasn’t been seen since. They gave Monique her Netflix special that flopped and is still not working
Taraji has been going through some personal issues for a long time. Prior to this not long ago she was breaking down in interviews over her mental health struggles and thoughts of unaliving herself. I think she needs to take a pause and focus on healing whatever she is going through, she is constantly breaking down in interviews and at this point it's a cry for help.
Vivica minded the business that pays her. She said she was satisfied with her pay and that was that. In the same breath she literally supported Taraji and other black actresses. What more do we want from her? P.s if you wanna support Taraji, her haircare line is amazing. I’m a huge fan of her clarifying shampoo plus more of her products.
Vivica fox is producing, directing, and acting. She has her side gigs (hair line, car shield commercials). If she says she is good, that is HER experience. Why are people villainising her for it.
Exactly!!! She is secure in herself and her finances. She ain’t crying and begging NOBODY!!! Keep selling those wigs, lifetime movies, reality shows, do you boo!!!!💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I’m not fond of her but you are correct. She spoke HER experience. Had she stayed quiet (since she’s not having that same experience), they would be attacking her for being quiet about it, and not standing with Taraji (the same way Taraji didn’t stand up for Monique). I will never forget when Taraji had folks riled up when she accused the police of racially profiling her son, and then video was released, showing the real reason that he was pulled over. People need to be careful instead of being quick to outrage, but showed zero outrage for Monique.
If love and hip-hop can get drivers in black trucks to drive them to their scene for their fake fights, then it shouldn’t be hard for Taraji, a real star 🌟
My fear for Taraji P is that her movie role offers might dry up. This movie got overshadow by her comments. Almost every headline during the promotion or red carpet were about Taraji being underpaid or Warner bros underpaying her or that the commendations were insignificant. The new reenactment of Color Purple already was going to be a tough sell, especially when going up against the original. Added negative headlines, probably turned a lot of people off… (not against her, but in supporting the movie). Movie studios might view her now as a liability.
Call me crazy but I think Taraji speaking out now was perfect timing. The hype about the movie was high, and her speaking about this matter caught everyone’s attention since everyone was paying attention to the hype of the movie. After the promotions of the movie died down, I highly doubt anyone would’ve focused on what she had to say. She got free publicity to say her peace. Which was smart whether it was intentional or not.
Perfect timing for her but not for the movie and everyone else involved in the movie (including the other actors)…which in turn, is not good for her future endeavors. So, basically, bad timing!
I don't agree. She created negative press against the movie. If the movie doesn't do well and production doesn't make the money back she will be blamed. This may also work against her if she is asking for more money. She may not be seen as an asset.
@@farmerz97 You’re focusing on the wrong thing. 1). She didn’t create an “negative” press. You saying that, insinuates what she’s fighting for is wrong. 2). Taraji is very smart. You think she’s losing but she’s actually wining. She may not get any calls for movies again, she may not get her raise in the end. But you what she did ? She has world talking about her. She has the world talking about what goes on behind closed doors in the film industry. Despite what you think, that was a huge win. Many other black actresses has talked about this situation but they didn’t come close to having the world pay attention to this matter. 3). Whether you want to believe it or not but she definitely caused a shift, more eyes will be on the film industry. More producers and executives will tread lightly. And DESPITE what YOU think, a lot of people are supporting her from the fans, to non fans to celebrities. You gotta focus on the bigger picture. At the end of the day, they already paid her and the other actors and actresses. She was never gonna get a raise if she stayed quiet. So might as well be loud.
Who didn’t get paid? She didn’t get paid “enough” or not paid at all? Was she at risk of losing life or limb when she walked off the set? I’m so sick of ppl flippantly mentioning slavery and reducing the brutality of what happened to slaves to fit their fkn narratives. I understand where Monique was coming from about not being paid enough but slavery is too far. They had nothing, no safety, no money, their families were sold off, meanwhile, her ass is sitting on a podcast with the RIGHT to air out her grievances. It’s not a good comparison.
That's BS. The studios are saying you aren't worth what you're asking for. These people are being paid for their work, they're not being paid what they want. There's a difference. Black actors don't make bank like white actors and that's facts. Look at the numbers and then speak. None of the women talking have the numbers to compel studios to make their asking price worth it.
Vivica has been in the game long enough to know the Hollywood response. The one that can't be taken out of context because she neither agreed nor disagreed. Her response was not that, and therefore, I believe there was something behind it. Maybe it was edited. Maybe she wants to get attention when someone asks her to elaborate, IDK. I just know that response was a no for me.
Nothing is wrong with Vivica’s response. She said it’s important that the message gets out. If she’s good, she’s good. Her comment was totally respectful!!
Thank you! People forget this is the entertainment business. At the end of the day it’s all for self. While they are getting money, people that’s not in the entertainment business need to sit this out cause we don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes. I’m HAPPY Vivica good! Her response is how people should respond when they are good. People are always saying it’s about all of us when they not worried about regular civilians.
Honestly, I understand why Taraji did that. Why does she have to have financial issues because she’s speaking about the truth. Honestly, Oprah shouldn’t have had to step in or handled it because it should’ve been handled from the start.
About the financial issues, please ask the sellout who made the video and also believes so. The comprehension is lacking for this demographic. She never mentioned Oprah. She sure cannot mention the big, big names that are truly responsible for pay.
As great of an actress as Taraji is, it’s sad that she has to fight for what she’s owed. In the same breath the movie flopped and isn’t even recouping what they spent. I personally enjoyed it and WISH it gained more support and more money and it would back up her argument for higher pay.
Oprah is a high-achieving woman that has broken so many records and set a new bar of success for Black women. But with that, she has become accustomed to a certain level of benevolence from people and expecting people to trade exposure from her for their talent and time. She’s taken it out on this cast for sure.
No, she’s just a woman who understands that business isn’t a charity. This movie is not going to make back it’s inflated production costs. This is WBs first loss maker of 2024 and while it was always going to struggle to make its money back, it didn’t help that Taraji and Co decided to play diva. Most movies don’t give you a chauffeur unless you’re at RDJ level. My entire career while we were location, I was picked up and dropped in a van and by the way, Woody Harrelson would be in those morning vans with us. Is Taraji bigger than him? DIVA.

If they act like that with Taraji what would they do with new black actresses and that’s why Taraji is upset, the fact that a fellow black woman would allow the cast to be disregarded like that on a set of a movie about the struggle of black people… the irony. Apparently it’s a pattern in the industry and I get why after 20 years Taraji is fed up with this bs.
Honestly the movie did not fail because she spoke up. People who would choose not to watch it because she said that, probably wouldn’t have watched it in theaters anyway. I think its more the fact that going to movie theater is expensive af and no one really wants to spend there money to watch a remake of another great movie. The highest grossing movies this year were largely original movies that were already getting buzz or hype from there ip. Wen people can barely afford groceries they aint gonna recalibrate there whole finances around a remake they can watch on streaming services in a couple months.
She should absolutely speak out because it lets us know how they treat black casts! Even if everyone doesn’t have the same grievances they have to stick together! As long as people are willing to accept less there will never be changes
This movie is not even on track to make back its production and promo costs. It needs to make at minimum $150M to not be a major studio loss that ensures they never invest in another black woman dominated film again. The studio knew it would struggle and was trying to contain costs but Taraji had to be a diva. And now she’s sabotaged the film with black audiences guaranteeing it will flop every demographic. Business illiteracy is our biggest downfall.
Vivica wasn’t even being officially interviewed when asked that question. She was in the middle of signing autographs, obviously on her way somewhere, was asked an off the cuff question by a reporter, and gave a simple response that was in no way offensive. If she had the time in a sit down full interview to discuss pay inequality at length, then she could expound on her answer. Otherwise people need to lay off her. And I support Taraji…she is A list actress, and deserves to be treated like such.
Who remembers when the original failed at the box office the first time Christmas 1985? They had to re-release it because no one attended. Oprah wore a purple dress, purple fur, etc and it bombed. What was the issue then? Who is the common denominator?
I'm so proud of her for speaking out. It takes one person to start a movement 👏🏽👏🏽 I really hope this doesn't affect her career though. Shes an amazing actress, she deserves her flowers and should be paid equally. 💯
I think this should have been on Netflix not the big screen. Would have had great numbers and more people would have seen it. Time and place to bear your grievance… this was neither the time nor the place.
I think the experiences Taraji had while filming was the straw that broke the camel’s back. She probably thought she wouldn’t have to deal with those issues on Oprah’s watch, but when she saw it was no different that had to be highly annoying and hard to hold in.
What is even more crazy is that movie extras and stand ins are covered for transportation, meals and boarding. Taraji has every right to bring these issues to light because something is amiss and it isn’t right. All of the latter protocols are already in the mix, it isn’t something that someone, especially studio named actors, have to even ask for. Ex. My senior citizen aunt was a reoccurring extra in Selma (she never has starred in a movie and is a retired nurse. The entirety of her senior citizen building was asked to participate). Although she lived 2 blocks from where every thing was being shot, she was still provided Kraft services, transportation to and from set and a wonderful trailer. She didn’t have to ask or negotiate that.

Viola broke it down too. they can have this conversation at separate times and different places and not need to be huddled together as if they are the same mouth. Black women don't play that game in real life and they needn't too. Now why would you expect errrrbody to be bosom buddies.
Taraji has done NOTHING wrong. Don’t blame her for the failure of this damn movie. Most people I know thought the movie was only out on Christmas because the trailer initially said “only on Christmas Day,” which was horribly misinterpreted.
You break down the news so thoroughly, your time & effort shows ☺️👏🏽👏🏽wishing all the ladies (and men) the best, we deserve equal pay in every arena! 💜✨
I don’t think Vivica was wrong, she meant “to each his own,” but she’s been in the industry too long to know that you could get blackballed in a New York minute,, and that was a smart move
My mom used to say: "A closed mouth do not get fed". Taraji wants to get paid what she's worth, same as other actresses with a similar resume. WE all want what's fair. As for Oprah? Be glad there is someone they can call OVER the studio executives to get things worked out, that folks is a queen move.
The thing is, Oprah isn't that saint you think she is. She works for her white counterparts not you or them. She didn't want to be called at all sweetheart.
Expressive thank you for covering this drama excellently and putting together all the pieces succinctly. I always look forward to your wholesome, robust, authentic and frank journalism. You’re simply the best!
It sucks bc what Taraji said is probably very true but now studios may be afraid to work with her, for fear of her airing out their dirt. On the other hand when is a better time, bringing it up now shines the most light on what she’s saying. I hate that Oprah’s getting the blame and not the studio though.
Taraji explained this in a The Real reality show interview Where she explained how the moneh works You are taxed 50% of the total salary After thay you have to pay your people An agent, studios rarely cast actors withiut agencies so you need one A lawyer An accountant , to make sure the IRS doesnt come after you A publicist to put out fires or scandals and keep your image good A manger or perisnal asssistant yo keep up woth your schedule , book flights , hotels transport e.t.c... Most actors work 12+ hour days when filming so they dont have the time to do all that stuff alone After working youll be extremely tired And a lot of black actors are forced to work way more than big time white actors Vivica is in that bracket she is constantly working And doesnt have kids so money she would have need to spend on her kid / kids like Taraji she probably spent on her self So of course she would be good I feel she should have declined ti comment because her fellow actresses womt support her if she ever changes her tune Hollywood doesnt forget
@@shippendales8543.. makes me think someone in tarajis camp is mis managing her money or not accounting properly.. in addition to maybe also not properly negotiating and representing her interests. Reason being if she is set up as a company for example, is she had a company, Taraj Enterprises LLC , then her money would be revenue to the business then all expenses would come out associated with making the business a success cost of goods etc. She would draw a salary and dividends, but more importantly the taxes would come out of the gross profit which would be then amount after her employees and salary and cost of running the business has been paid.. Which also makes me question when they socialise with their other successful counterparts what do they talk about I would think exchanging information on business managers so I get on to more efficient managmen55, or you doing something right what's the secret to help ease this or that, where is the comraderie and exchange of information , are these and every party so superficial that we act as though our team has it together...I dunno just wondering..
Color Purple is a great book and was a great movie. Black women want to move on though. No more struggle stories. We're tired of slave dramas, old South tales, inner city struggle documentaries, etc. It seems like that's all Hollywood wants to show about Black people, and we're over it. 4 biggest cities in the racist US of A have African-American mayors. We've done better than any other racial group that has come here, taking our history into account. We want happy stories.
Black people have NOT done better than any other race/ethnicity in America. We lag in socioeconomic indicators. We are low in home ownership. Our educational outcomes are subpar. Our health outcomes are the absolute worse (mortality, prevalence of disease, etc.). Are there Black people doing well? Of course. The success of the few is overshadowed by the lack of success of most. African-American mayors are indications of progress but we are behind, really behind other groups of people.
Just because Vivica said Taraji's experience isn't her experience doesn't mean they're not cool. This exactly how drama start's Vivica said nothing wrong. She gave her love n said I don't have the same issues
Before you feel sorry for anyone, Taraji is 50. This woman knows the deal and repercussions of her actions. The timing, her being cancelled, all that nonsense she already thought about. And probably she is okay with not doing any more big movies. Who knows what the future holds her, hopefully she can invest in herself and get her own production team
I agree with you 💯 The Color Purple is a beautiful movie. It's a shame this went down like this. Taraji has the right to voice her pay disparity opinion, but there's a time and place for everything. This should have been addressed with her management team -- they broker her movie deals.
I kept saying Taraji should form her own enterprise with Vivica and the other actresses but now several days later they are throwing shade at each other. I’m beginning to wonder if people really want solutions or just to keep complaining about the issues.
If you don’t complain about the issues, then how are you gonna get anything changed or solved especially for the next generation coming up after them. 🤷🏾♀️
@@angelafrazier7216For example, Angela Bassett is the highest paid black actress, making 450,000 dollars per episode of 911 as of Season 5, which compares to some of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood in general. Kerry Washington also made a lot per episode when she was the star of Scandal. I am not saying discrimination in Hollywood against black women don’t exist or that Taraji hasn’t had a great career or deserves more, but a lot of the salary that is offered by Hollywood is depending on how big of a draw they feel you are. They make business decisions. In truth, many actors and actresses in general have complained about pay rates over the years. It really depends on the studio, the budget, how much of a draw they think you are, and what the people who represent you can negotiate. When studios say specific films don’t do well overseas, it is true. For example, Tyler Perry rarely releases his films to overseas theaters, and almost all of his profitability comes from US audiences, but his films also tend to have lower budgets compared to Hollywood productions, which are often made to be marketed overseas as well as domestically. Taraji does have a net worth of 12 millions, which is not bad at all. For example, she states she wanted 500,000 for Benjamin Button and asked for it, but they offered her 150,000. But she still accepted the 150,000. Certain black actors get paid enormous amounts of money because they are global household names, like a Will Smith and Denzel Washington, I don’t know if Taraji’s been in a major global blockbuster film yet.
People have a right to air out their grievances. And I also understand that giving certain opinions publicly can hurt your career if you say something that execs, employers, fellow actors etc... don't wanna hear. The truth at the end of the day is that black people like Oprah get to where they are by being liked by powerful white and other non-black folk. Oprah likely has to speak about certain issues vaguely or not at all, otherwise some ppl behind the scenes could take away her wealth & influence.
This movie was absolutely amazing. I haven’t seen anything like it in a long time. Taraji, Danielle, and Fantasia deserve an Oscar for this film. It was recreated in the very best way. I laughed, I cried. Every time Fantasia opened her mouth to sing it made me feel something! I really hope the bad press doesn’t cause the movie to flop, because it deserves all the accolades. Every actress and actor put their all into this movie and need to be paid as such.
I get wholeheartedly what Taraji was saying but the fact that she was literally crying on EVERY interview/press conference was a bit much and i would think very unfair and a bit uncomfortable for the rest of her the cast mates.
We’ll never get that tea. Whoppi and Oprah is not of this tell and show all your business generation. But you better believe at their kitchen tables they are calling each other all kinds of hussies, winches, and b***hs under the sun lmao!
The movie is struggling based on the Karma of what was going on in the background behind the scenes, a 100 million budget and they didn't have food, driving rentals and low pay. It's poetic justice. It's time for Oprah to get her proper flowers, I knew this lady was weird and sadistic by way of what she did by bringing Moniques abusive family on her show after she told her she wouldn't. Seeing how they were both victims of abuse growing up, I never thought very much of her after that and that was decades ago on the Oprah show. Y'all thought Oprah was special because the white people do, she knows who to pander to while she likes to play with black people. Period.
It is extremely unfair that you are making up this narrative about Taraji. Saying it’s her team or she’s over spending Granted, her speaking out about these issues has affected the role out of the film, however, everything she said was the truth, and with the truth, her issues weren't with Oprah. The public made it an Oprah and Taraji situation, with people reporting it like this.
Yes I was very disappointed. Empressive sounded really petty . She has NO idea how TPH spends her money. She asked for equal pay a driver and lunch now she’s a hot mess? SMH pettiness
Are we really surprised by that, though? Empressive only comes to the defense of black man, not women. She is a literal women hater and will make up stories for views.
Taraji needs to hire a new agent. People in this industry value visibility over wealth. Taraji has been getting all of the lead roles because her agent is accepting the low pay. So yea. It is partially her fault and her teams fault. And it has to be said. When Taraji was flying high with that role on Empire (a role originally written for MoNique) she wasn’t speaking about pay inequality until 2019. She couldn’t relate.
@@mileenakhan4778everyone loves Taraji so they don’t wanna hold her accountable. A GOOD agent is gonna make sure u have multiple streams of income. Not just a lot of visibility. Taraji could’ve made MILLIONS with a wig line. Remember everyone was rocking the “Taraji bob” a few years ago. An easy coin. You see Vivica selling wigs. Wigs sell faster than hair care products. Just what u said. Her team values visibility over rightful pay. If I was her agent I wouldn’t even mention a role to her if the pay is under a few mill. I’m sure Taraji knows her worth. But her team doesn’t
She chose the right moment to speak up. When all eyes on you, say something. Screw the roll out of the movie. She had a issue with how she was treated and said something about it. It’s weird how many people feel a certain way when others speak up for what they want and know their worth.
I don't think it's fair for anyone to feel like someone's pain/frustrations should be aired when they feel like it should versus the actual offended. If we went on what others think is the best timing, it'll never be the right time. But let it be about ourselves and have someone speaking on when we should fight for ourselves and all hell will break loose. Let's do not do this to these people.
😳 Taraji was right for bringing up the issue, but it’s overshadowing the movie… and the fact that the box office is ruined doesn’t help her case for getting more money. The sad part is that every single issue around this movie and its rollout has Oprah at the centre of it. Monique is sitting somewhere laughing and sipping on a glass of wine… in the dark. Just laughing. 😏
@@selfishgirlsgofirstNow see this what we not finna do. Yea BM got they issues but Oprah been problematic for years. Not you capin for the woman posing with Harvey Weinstein. Chile we ain't forgot. This musical was phenomenal and I loved seeing it in theaters. However, The Color Purple was heavily boycotted by the black community when it came out in the 80s and it hasn’t changed now. I think this version (and most movie musicals) would do better on streaming services. Many people just don’t like musicals and won’t actively go out of their way to watch one in theaters. This isn’t Taraji’s fault at all.
This reminds me of "Don't worry Darling" - the drama completely overshadowed the movie and it was clear that this wasn't done for the gp, but more so to self-serve the people making it. I see a lot of people being turned off and saying "nope, will wait till this one's on streaming instead".
Taraji needs to expand her acting roles and projects outside of black Hollywood. She needs to demand that she’s paid what she’s worth going forward. She should have waited until after the promo to discuss pay inequities. Other black actresses need to demand to be paid what they are worth as well. Monique been warning black actresses for years no one hears until it happens to them.
Probably 'white' Hollywood is to blame. Look at the TV shows they've been to. It's like they have no space nowhere else, it's sad. This country still divides people by their color 😢
It’s really sad that people continue to place blame on Taraji for her ‘timing’ about speaking up. Sadly, This is and has been HER experience. The even sadder part is that this continues to happen even at the hands of our OWN people, who should be doubly invested in both the success of the cast AND film. Participating in an Oprah Winfrey or a Tyler Perry or Lee Daniel’s production should ABSOLUTELY be different for black actors/actresses. Why people continue to give Oprah a pass saying that she was so far removed from the details is BULL! The thing we need to understand about black Hollywood elites like Oprah, is that she’s no longer just a name. She’s also a BRAND. Often times they don’t attach themselves or their names to projects unless they’re able to have a huge sense of control. They’re VERY tapped in to what goes on. So that whole, ‘I don’t know why my name was even mentioned’ from Oprah is BS, and an attempt to dodge accountability. The reality is, that all skin folk ain’t KIN folk. And these same celebs that we champion because they pretend to be FOR us and the cause, are ALL just capitalist at the end of the day. They ONLY care about the almighty DOLLAR.
Exactly. Taraji is tired of holding it in. There's never a right time to speak your truth, especially in the entertainment industry. Although this was risky, it might help actually actresses/actors younger than her.
@@msoddballz5763 I agree and hope so. I’ve been following her career, this isn’t the first time that’s spoken about or brought attention to things like this happening to her. And if these things are happening to the Taraji’s and Viola Davis’s…with their IMPRESSIVE and accomplished resumes… I can only imagine what the Tika Sumpters and Jodie Turner Smiths have had to put up with
Oprah keeps blaming the production team when she’s also responsible since she produced the movie. She’s going to get Taraji back big time though, for ruining the press for this movie
@@HelloKitty-pe4ho she chose not to call out the white people. She didn’t really call Oprah out by name either and that’s her problem. Doesn’t change the fact Oprah is also at fault and it’s not her first offence treating black women this way.

it's trauma p0rn. Why can't we have movies with blac9k people, where blac9k people aren't ALWAYS suffering or part of 'the COMMUNITY"?🙄😒
I agree now if they do "For Colored A girls" as a musical ima be real upset😮😮🤯

I think the time for these types of films has passed. Equally… the victim narrative for black women has been used so much people are desensitized. Time for resilient and defiant joy. Danielle Brooks is giving that energy. Let’s move on and create NEW art. Hollywood is always beating the same dead horse.

Quick tip don't make assumptions about someone's life. Just because Taraji was explaining why she felt the way she did it does not mean that she herself is going through something.
I was 5, and I concur! "The Color Purple " didn't need to be remade at all!

Vivica fox is producing, directing, and acting. She has her side gigs (hair line, car shield commercials). If she says she is good, that is HER experience. Why are people villainising her for it.
Because this isn’t the time to say that. You know what’s happening to the majority of Black women! Stand the line.

Couldn’t agree more 👌👌👌👌
Stupid move. She will realize that when nobody calls her for another move role
“If they not paying you, that’s called slavery” absolutely.

And acting like it has nothing to do with her or isn't her job is unacceptable. May not be her fault but it's her responsibility.
Exactly 💯 this re imagining was not needed. We’re tired. Taraji probably got depressed acting like Shug Avery in 2023 🙄
A wise friend once said "The less the better." Meaning you will risk alot speaking the truth. It will either elevate you or demote you. Love you all!
Just because Vivica said Taraji's experience isn't her experience doesn't mean they're not cool. This exactly how drama start's Vivica said nothing wrong. She gave her love n said I don't have the same issues
But when Monique was speaking out a lot of folks ignored what she had to say.
WYS🗣🗣🗣🗣
Before you feel sorry for anyone, Taraji is 50. This woman knows the deal and repercussions of her actions. The timing, her being cancelled, all that nonsense she already thought about. And probably she is okay with not doing any more big movies. Who knows what the future holds her, hopefully she can invest in herself and get her own production team
She did it on purpose...and it is working... People aren't seeing what's going on.
She said she wanted to stop acting so she's just trying to take people down with her.
This!! I agree the actresses should come together and form an enterprise. Why rely on roles solely? Diversify and do other things.
Certain black actors get paid enormous amounts of money because they are global household names, like a Will Smith and Denzel Washington,
I don’t know if Taraji’s been in a major global blockbuster film yet.
Vivica better leave her face alone she starting to get that mask look.
The timing of that kind of press for the movie was unfortunate and is hurting it. Her timing was not great
This movie was absolutely amazing.
Every actress and actor put their all
into this movie and need to be paid as such.
I agree and had the same feelings watching it too.
Yes 🎉
@roshellerichardson853 If it wasn't for musical. I might liked it. I seriously could've waited for it hit cable.
It tanked at the box office because no one wants to see it except a certain faction of the black female (or black gay male) population
I agree, I loved it ❤
I get wholeheartedly what Taraji was saying but the fact that she was literally crying on EVERY interview/press conference was a bit much and i would think very unfair and a bit uncomfortable for the rest of her the cast mates.
Taraji has been having serious issues in her personal life that may be bleeding into her career.
And it’s very sad how she chose this project to sabotage
Everything that is hidden will be uncovered!!!
I'm way more interested in the Whoopi and Oprah tea. Something is up, its definitely something there
We’ll never get that tea. Whoppi and Oprah is not of this tell and show all your business generation. But you better believe at their kitchen tables they are calling each other all kinds of hussies, winches, and b***hs under the sun lmao!
Whoopi is keeping her mouth shut. She ain't got the time for this mess/ negative energy.
Me too. I didn't even know they didn't fw each other
The movie is struggling based on the Karma of what was going on in the background behind the scenes, a 100 million budget and they didn't have food, driving rentals and low pay. Period.
I agree!!
This comment!!! 💯
@@lancomenyongo7346sidenote: vivicas wigs are terrible😫😫😫
She chose the right moment to speak up. When all eyes on you, say something. Screw the roll out of the movie. She had a issue with how she was treated and said something about it. It’s weird how many people feel a certain way when others speak up for what they want and know their worth.
I agree. Why should this movie do well especially if she didn't pay them ?The actors have already been paid
We ON TIME for the tea honey... I'll say this... Oprah is a PR QUEEN...She knows exactly what she doing.
Who doesn’t know Oprah is a snake 🤨 50cent, Monique, ect have complained for years it’s about time Oprah is held accountable
This 💯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You literally proved the point made in the video. Even watching the video you still make it about Oprah.
Oprah is not a snake
Bm hate Oprah because they can't never be as successful as her. 99%of them are bitter. Love you Oprah, you're the best.
@@selfishgirlsgofirstNow see this what we not finna do. Yea BM got they issues but Oprah been problematic for years. Not you capin for the woman posing with Harvey Weinstein. Chile we ain't forgot. But make this about the BM ego tho 🙄 we can have that actual argument about someone worth validating it, but Oprah no ma'am 🐍!
Exactly
Exactly! You understand.
I agree 100%
Not sure why people feel like it’s a personal attack against Oprah or the film. And if these things are happening to the Taraji’s and Viola Davis’s…with their IMPRESSIVE and accomplished resumes…
I can only imagine what the Tika Sumpters and Jodie Turner Smiths have had to put up with
‼️‼️‼️
& we’re ANNOYED w/ Oprah…
Oprah keeps blaming the production team when she’s also responsible since she produced the movie. She’s going to get Taraji back big time though, for ruining the press for this movie
@user-ci2sy5jb2j She's not, but you don't comprehend well. How about yall call out the white people who didn't and won't pay her what she's worth.
lol!
She be start shii and then when they wanna clapback at Oprah she wants to be quiet Monique Been said she was weird
@@HelloKitty-pe4ho she chose not to call out the white people. She didn’t really call Oprah out by name either and that’s her problem. Doesn’t change the fact Oprah is also at fault and it’s not her first offence treating black women this way.
The Color Purple has always been one of my favorite films. I saw it in the box office when it first came out. Whoopi Goldberg endeared herself to me in that movie and I’ll always love her.
