Ms Empressive!!! OMG. Thank you for mentioning so many of the black country artists that are out there making music. I never knew there were so many. I’ve been a fan of your videos for a while, and this is the one that takes the cake for me, for some reason is resonating.
I seriously LOVE your channel! You always provide multiple perspectives which allows your audience to really understand the entire picture. I also appreciate how you provide historical context, when needed to further your point.
It’s so mind boggling how we can know so much of our history, but still be scared to learn from our history and take back EVERYTHING that belongs to us. 🤷🏾♀️
It would have to start as an “inside job”, done silently and strategically. They can wipe out thousands of black people with planes and many other advanced tactics discovered over the years. You see what they did to Black WallStreet and the other thriving black communities during that time. They will let Beyonce make them more money…but, I’m sure they have a line where it stops.😅 So, it’s about being smart and not “announcing” to them your moves. Because they are absolutely listening and planning ahead.
Thank you for the list of black country artists. I'm about to stream them all and show them some love. And thank you for your channel. It's refreshing!
I don't often watch your channel because of a certain bias you have BUT the reason I keep coming back is because you love music! Often the songs you talk about I have but sometimes, like this video, I get told some gems. I plan to listen to every single artist you put in your details. Thank you for bringing recognition to black artists! I would love to give musical suggestions but I've found a lot of big TH-camrs can't get to every comment (I hope you keep growing).
Damn me too! I thought I was the only one that noticed her Bias. If she doesn't like an artist, she's definitely going to discredit and only report certain stories about them. But like you said she be on to stuff for the most part it's just that at the same time, a lot of stuff that's said just make you fall back for a min. Guess that's the thing about opinions and perspectives tho
If that’s the case then it would be dope for all bp who benefit from something to help out other bp who don’t benefit from the same things. But y’all want to think y’all are better than the next melanated person. Therefore Beyonce doesn’t owe the blk artists nothing. They need to boost themselves up the way y’all tell other bp ALL the time.
That’s exactly what she’s going to do!! When she made her Afrobeats album almost every song featured an African artist. She introduced many of them to her mainstream audience and now they are taking over the world. This album will be no different.
This was a great cover on black people in country! I didn’t realize our presence was so heavy and now I want to add them to my playlist and expand my pallet. Beyoncé is doing the lords work. Thank you for your journalism 😊🎉
I will definitely support Kmichelle because it’s the passion , AUTHENTICITY and indebted research that she did transitioning to the country genre. I absolutely respect it because it’s beyond about the lucrative benefits she truly enjoys country music. Unfortunately I can’t support Beyonce because as she stated it’s not about country and the passion for country BUT GETTING REVENGE???? Like what???? Beyonce also stated it’s not a country album it’s a BEYONCE ALBUM?????? Yo what the hell 🤣
@@sgriffiths0280it’s not about “revenge” . Beyoncé approach is different because she’s actually gonna teach us the roots of country music. Also to shed light on other black country artists. Trust me if Beyoncé didn’t care about country music, then she wouldn’t have made an album…
I love that Beyonce is not going to go back and forth with people over stupid shit. Let them argue with themselves. Every time she has music coming out or a tour the same people and fanbases come alive to bash her. I can't wait to hear her music. I am going to focus on that.
I really liked this video. Well done as always and quite informational. I liked what K. Michelle had to say about her experience with the Country music genre... I grew up listening to some country, as my older sister loved it. I was not a big fan at the time. Now as an adult I like it more. Thank you for the list of Artist. I will most definitely be checking out these black country Artist to give support! ♥
THANK You for this video! As someone who has always loved folk and roots and blues and midcentury to early 80s country of the likes of Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton I am so excited to start exploring this amazing long list of Black country artists that I've never heard of! I have so much love for K Michelle as a person from Love & Hip Hop but I am so excited to discover her current brand of music. Such love for this post, and the reality of country music's history.
Yeah It's called jealousy lol. Most of them have not seen any success in 20 years and are throwback acts despite her starting around the same time in the 90s with DC. They need to get over it. What we suppose to do ?
@@AngeBiampandou why the hell would anybody be jealous of Beyoncé? You don’t make it to the top and have people literally afraid of you (for fear of being blackballed) without you doing something to get there and it’s usually unscrupulous. At least other artists get to go to sleep with a (somewhat) clean conscious. See, people like Badu don’t wanna sell their soul, but she can still eat off her catalogue and the fans GENUINELY love her all over the globe. People are forced in to liking Beyoncé. People who know real music know that beyonce is completely overrated and a damn copycat. That’s what really pisses me off. She blatantly steals from other artists and gets all the praise for it. I don’t get it.
@@thebuttermilkgirlisbackwho does she steal from?? y’all seem to get INSPIRATION & stealing confused. y’all be mad that she doesn’t “pay homage” to the older artists but then get mad when she does. make it make sense
@@benshapiro11 who does she steal from? Dude, there’s too many videos made documenting how Beyoncé copied other artists and didn’t give credit until she got caught. She even admitted to Frank Gaskins that nobody wants them at their show because they’re gonna steal ideas or whatever. The girl is not original. Now in less than one year, she copied Badu’s style…twice. It’s NOT a coincidence.
You always do a great job pulling together the facts! I truly enjoyed this. I am not going to lie I don’t know anything about country music so it’s great to learn about more black artist’s music in the space.
Thanks for the black country music plug, am going to go stream them. 😊👍🏾 My Nigerian ahh grew up on country music as that is what my mum played at home. (Dolly Parton especially)
Erykah is mad that Amdre 3000 loves Beyonce and always has. He named a song after Bey on his new album. And no, she is not trolling. She is hurt about her baby daddy. Period. I love him by the way.
The difference between K. Michelle & Beyonce is that K. Michelle is building herself up based off of an idea that country music belongs to THEM.... Beyonce understands that the roots of country music belongs to US and she don't need THEY permission! 💯
Due to Beyoncés big fan base, she doesn’t have to try that hard. She said she’s doing a country album and it gained a lot of popularity. Sadly, not everyone is familiar with k Michelle and if they are it’s because lhh not her music.
I don't think KMichelle feels like that. She's always wanted to sing country. I remember her saying it years ago..I think she knows it belongs to us. She was just bringing insight to the country music industry as a whole, talking about the negatives and the positives.
@@GabrielleEther My point was that K. Michelle is appearing to be trying to prove herself in country music in these established white country venues and by collabing with white country artists, as if she needs to impress THEM to be able to do country music. Beyonce on the other hand is NOT asking for a seat at the table, Beyonce understands that the table that THEY are sitting at was made from a tree that grew from the roots of BLACK people. Beyonce aint asking for permission, as a matter of fact, Beyonce said let me give you colonizers a history lesson and show you were that genre you hold so near and dear originated and how YOUR people stole it and called ot your own like you did almost everything else. This is going to be an interesting year to watch because this album is going to ruffle feathers and im here for it.
@@MsJonessss My point is K. Michelle is asking for permission as if the genre belongs to them because K. Michelle hasnt done the research of the genres roots. Beyonce isnt asking, she is taking because she knows the genre is here because of BLACK people and she is going to give THEM a history lesson. The star power of Beyonce means nothing to the point im trying to prove. The approach of the 2 artists means everything.
I think what some of these people need to understand is a lot of these artists aren’t trying to break barriers. A lot of them really just love the genre and just want to be able to do the music that they love. It doesn’t have to be politicized but unfortunately the people who want to try to gate keep it are making it that way. No more. Doors are about to be opened and I’m glad to see it. I love to see people doing what they love to do with no limits. I love that this channel highlights a lot of these artists that I may not have heard of. Let’s support!
K. Michelle sounds confused to me. 1. Love and racism can not co-exist within the same space. One is the antithesis of the other. 2. The country artists in Nashville can't possibly be too concerned with upholding the traditions of the genre, when the genre started with Black people and the current gatekeepers seem hell bent on keeping Blacks out of the genre.
Well she did say we "Blacks" have to fight so I don't think she expects for both to be in the same place..but for one to win..and she maybe speaking of the music purity being uphold and it not be about the people just the music..just my thoughts..
I love how she’s said she’s blending and bending genres. As she’s always done…you cannot pigeonhole or box in an artist like her. She’s dabbled in so many genres. So, this ain’t nothin’ new. I’m tired of certain people trying to gate keep spaces. Especially, when those same people always steal from other cultures or have their noses all up in other people’s business. Whether you like Bey’s music or not, you have to respect a power move like this. And to think, people thought this was about Taylor Swift lmaooo.
I feel like Aloe Blacc should be considered a country artist as well... We never see ppl mention him but we definitely need to give him his country music flowers.

My grandfather was born in 1929 in rural South Carolina he told me that because of the mockery of the minstrel shows black men didn’t want to be seen as country and began playing jazz music because it made them appear to look more dignified. So that may give some insight on why black musicians left the genre.

I didn't (think) I was a Country Music fan, but looked up all the Artists you suggested and liked what I heard. The Tanner Adell "Buckle Bunny" is a bop! Thanks for posting such a good video!!!
I love how you highlight artists. I find so much new music because of you.
My mom had this hairstyle in 1978 .. that’s all!!
Thanks for this video. I’m gonna make it my business to try and support more black country artist!
Ms Empressive!!! OMG. Thank you for mentioning so many of the black country artists that are out there making music. I never knew there were so many. I’ve been a fan of your videos for a while, and this is the one that takes the cake for me, for some reason is resonating.
The one thing I love about your channel is the exposure you grant to artist who may only be known to certain people but not on a mainstream level!!
I love my people. This video provided me with so much insight. I didn't know i needed this, this morning. 🥰
THIS WAS JUST A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. THE PRESENTATION AND YOUR VOICE. JUST PERFECT
They will let Beyonce make them more money…but, I’m sure they have a line where it stops.😅
So, it’s about being smart and not “announcing” to them your moves.
I thought i was the only one that noticed her being BIASED.
@@aureonsmith Agreed, everyone is allowed their opinions and biases but it's why I don't often watch.
Perfectly said. Her biases shows
Yeah she biased af it’s definitely giving buzzy the bee smh
It would be so dope if Beyoncé would do a huge collaboration with these black country artists that you mentioned in this video.
Her & K Michelle would be great!
That’s exactly what she’s going to do!! When she made her Afrobeats album almost every song featured an African artist. She introduced many of them to her mainstream audience and now they are taking over the world. This album will be no different.
@@raventhompson9386 Now that makes sense when you put it that way versus the original comment.
She will drown them out so there would be no point
Empressive, I love when you highlight talented but underrated artist. I always look into your recommendations. 😊
This was a great cover on black people in country!
I didn’t realize our presence was so heavy and now I want to add them to my playlist and expand my pallet.
Beyoncé is doing the lords work.
Thank you for your journalism 😊🎉
Yeah , I definitely added some country music 🎵 to my playlist.
Agreed 👏🏼👏🏼💯💯
Congratulations welcome.
Be more open minded to music.😊
Are you dumb? The whole country music + culture was invented by black people!
K. Michelle so did that r&b crossover to country thing already… Happy you mentioned it!
Yes and more than one person can do it and K Michelle is no where as big as Beyonce so that’s what makes it different
Who wrote this? Makes no sense
😭Everything K. Michelle said was a word, I’ve always supported her. That woman is TALENTED.
✔️Writing
✔️Singing
✔️instruments
I will definitely support Kmichelle because it’s the passion , AUTHENTICITY and indebted research that she did transitioning to the country genre. I absolutely respect it because it’s beyond about the lucrative benefits she truly enjoys country music. Unfortunately I can’t support Beyonce because as she stated it’s not about country and the passion for country BUT GETTING REVENGE???? Like what???? Beyonce also stated it’s not a country album it’s a BEYONCE ALBUM?????? Yo what the hell 🤣
Exactly
@@sgriffiths0280it’s not about “revenge” . Beyoncé approach is different because she’s actually gonna teach us the roots of country music. Also to shed light on other black country artists. Trust me if Beyoncé didn’t care about country music, then she wouldn’t have made an album…
😊
@@redvelbeyexoxdamn you know her lol?
thank you for putting us on on these country songs in your description. 🙏🏽✨
The “ye haw” had me on the floor 😂😂😂
😐
Same here 😂😂
😂🤣😆 Me too haha
I love that Beyonce is not going to go back and forth with people over stupid shit. Let them argue with themselves. Every time she has music coming out or a tour the same people and fanbases come alive to bash her. I can't wait to hear her music. I am going to focus on that.
I wish I had her level of unbotherness
She let's her publicist and her mother fight her battles lol 😅
I really liked this video. Well done as always and quite informational. I liked what K. Michelle had to say about her experience with the Country music genre... I grew up listening to some country, as my older sister loved it. I was not a big fan at the time. Now as an adult I like it more. Thank you for the list of Artist. I will most definitely be checking out these black country Artist to give support! ♥
I love you BRINGING FORTH these artists. ❤ Thank you!!
Soooooo are we gonna talk about this Nickelodeon mess bcuz it's tea chile...
Yaaaaas! It's been everywhere and it's so sad!
I think alot of artist in the industry feel a type a way about beyonce but are afraid to speak up.
@@benshapiro11It's all types of videos of her stealing stuff from unknown artists.
Why do we always talk who wore what first. There are others that have wore things way before It almost feels like a high school mentality
IT IS!!! So childish, it's embarrassing.
Its definitely a high school mentality. The pettiness is exhausting.
Yessss!
White female country singers don't!!!
Whites dont
You always do a great job pulling together the facts! I truly enjoyed this. I am not going to lie I don’t know anything about country music so it’s great to learn about more black artist’s music in the space.
Erykah Badu has that sarcastic humor that nobody gets so its even funnier to HER😂
True😂
Most jokes hold some truth though. And it’s a weird joke to make though…
@@smilealwaysnatasha3423right! This lady is so weird and miserable
It’s funny….but its also doing too much and unnecessary, I adore both women frfr
lolol
Thanks for the black country music plug, am going to go stream them. 😊👍🏾
My Nigerian ahh grew up on country music as that is what my mum played at home. (Dolly Parton especially)
Erykah is mad that Amdre 3000 loves Beyonce and always has. He named a song after Bey on his new album. And no, she is not trolling. She is hurt about her baby daddy. Period. I love him by the way.
The Pointer Sisters were doing 'Black girl country' back in the 70s. And doing it well
Tina Turner 1st solo album after Ike was country as well
I love it! Break those barriers down.👊🏽
And thank you Empressive for highlighting some of the artists, definitely gonna check them out.
Charley Pride and Linda Martell broke down barriers back in the 60's ❤
The difference between K. Michelle & Beyonce is that K. Michelle is building herself up based off of an idea that country music belongs to THEM.... Beyonce understands that the roots of country music belongs to US and she don't need THEY permission! 💯
💯💯💯
Thank You Empressive ❤
For making it this video and educating not only me, but the as well as the viewers 😊
Thank you I never knew it was that many African Americans singing country music
Thank you so much for creating this video. One of my top favorites by you. I’m so inspired! 🫶🏾
Don't forget Nelly did one also. I love his album
I love that this
channel highlights a lot of these artists that I may not have heard of. Let’s support!
I’m here for it!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯
💯💯👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for sharing the other Black country artist. I will give them a listen
Yes! Afro Panamanian American too! I need a dollar a dollar. A dollar that's what I need." Gonna listen to that tomorrow.
I died at the "yeeHAW" lmfao!! I had to look if beyonce wrote that LMAO LOVE YOU GIRL 😂😂

OMG! Yes, I felt the same way. I wasn't feeling her upcoming country album until I saw the vitriol from the racist country fans, then I remembered her CMA performance and now it made all the more sense in the world for me. I fully support it now. In fact, I will be pre-ordering her album so we can be part of music history.

Empressive! Thank you for covering this topic and really highlighting the tremendous amount of super talented black country artists. This was very enlightening! Feels good to know that there are so many great black country artists out there but sad to see how little support they get in the industry. I plan on supporting them!
Thanks for promoting black country artists who have been in the shadows of obscurity for so long! I highly appreciate you sis ❤
Beyoncé is the perfect catalyst to country music being back on the radar of the black community. Kudos Empressive!
Really? Lmfao. Laughable
People go insane when beyonce takes inspo but never says from who, it’s like why does she always have to credit people??? Art doesn’t need an explanation always
I agree this video geta 2 thumbs up for the journalism work and the cover on our history. Great job including the videos from Tik Tok on educating us about our history. You did your thing Empressive 😃
lmao. you pple never bothered to learn, simple as that
Blk country artists are most definitely not "in obscurity ". Maybe to BP. Not to country music fans. Yawll are so late.
Really nice deep dive into black country artists. Thank you ❤❤❤
As an African, I know that black Americans created Jazz, blues, Country, Hip Hop, R&B etc !!! Stop playing. Black people are really pioneers and we deserve so much better! BUT black Americans are really THEM! Such a fantastic, talented, intelligent group of people who have really pushed forward so much in culture/ society. We might have differences but I love all my BLACK people! Nobody else has been through what we have and continue to persevere and push excellence! To all my black people worldwide, CONTINUE TO BE GREAT!!!! Proud of us all 💕
Yes, we do have some great black American entertainers. My question is, why can't we all get along?
Hi Empressive! Thank you for everything you do ❤
Thank you expressive for showing numerous black country artists. Because I’m tired of people acting like Beyonce is doing something that’s never been done before. She’s NOT the first black person to do it. And where is the love and accountability for K Michelle who’s been doing country music for a minute. Damn Beyoncé is not the be all end all.
When anybody said Beyoncé was the 1st at wearing beaded braids ? Erykah is the one who is claming she is the 1st with her arrogant delusionnal self. And K Michelle got two country songs y'all didn't buy. Is she the only black woman singing country ? She's no Linda Martell either foh 😂
I get that but she is the first black woman to get a number 1 though. When K Michelle does it I'll praise her too I'm not a stan.
@@jessielove297 K Michelle doesn't have, and would probably never have, a big enough fan base to get a number one on a country chart. Her talent, work ethic, journey and determination deserves praise without one.
I get what you saying but why yall be so mad when beyonce does it?? & tbh you asking where was the love for k michelle country music, well were was our black folks at supporting, buying, & streaming her music?? It start with us. Where was yall at??? So how about now we changed the goal post & like at it as well since beyonce is putting out her country album it can also shines the light on more black country artists who been doing it so they can get their recognition they rightfully deserve. You should be happy a BLACK woman like beyonce is breaking barriers & the first black woman to get a number one on the country billboard, you should be happy for another fellow black woman. That’s the crab in the bucket mentality OUR people have to wake out of. Let’s support k michelle country album when it comes out
I actually learned a lot from this one. Thank you Empressive!
I thought “Renaissance” was going to be her biggest impact but “Cowboy Carter” is gonna top it. I went to her concert for my birthday and I pray I get to go to her next concert once she announces it
So happy you made a list of the country artist you named 👏👏👏👏👏.

If you want Real Country, google Tony Jackson or Linda Martell.
My grandfather was born in 1929 in rural South Carolina he told me that because of the mockery of the minstrel shows black men didn’t want to be seen as country and began playing jazz music because it made them appear to look more dignified. So that may give some insight on why black musicians left the genre.
Wow!!!! I’m learning a lot about black folks doing different style of country music from you Empressive. Thank you
