Hi Devin. It has turned into night here in Denmark and I watch your lesson before I go to sleep. Can't wait to get up tommorow morning and pick up my guitar and start practicing these bluegrass licks. You are a phenomenal online teacher! Best greetings from Henning
G'day Devin, top tuition, as on your VIDS, easy to follow. For a tone deaf Elder, can do some basic pick/strum and pick a bit, you do good stuff, Mate. My likes, Aust and US traditional and Blue Grass. Only problem, cannot use a pick, always thumb. :)
Thanks for the great lesson! 🙏 quick random question... I just noticed the D-35 I bought this year is spec'd with a two-piece mahogany neck is that normal, something that Martin is doing now to save wood?
You can barely see it and I don't think it really affects the sound. It has a great resonance about it I'm in love haha I just thought they used a solid blank
Thanks! Yep I think you're exactly right...to save wood or because there was a shortage. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing as far as quality goes..I'd say it's still really nice. I love D-35s. I have noticed the Martin quality going down in the past ten years because they're starting to mass produce guitars for Guitar Center but they're still amazing guitars with that classic Martin sound. I don't have a D-35 but it's definitely on my list of guitars to purchase one of these days. Congrats on the new guitar.
Sounds like you're playing the intro to Aqualung. But I guess the difference between rock and blues and country is how you utilize the G scale. Whereas difference between gospel and Blues is who you're singing about... Him or her.
Michael Poland mostly because the key of G is the most popular key for country and bluegrass and that's where the 5th position blues scale is located key of G. Going to branch out more to other keys in future lessons

Pattern country blues?
Great lesson, and a beautiful guitar! Random question though, what kind of cowboy hat is he wearing?? I want one lol
Thanks! It’s a pretty basic hat...Cavender’s store brand from the Cavender’s near my house
Which Martin guitar is this? A D18?
Really close...it's a D-16GT
Just curious why you're playing 5th position blues scale on that part of the guitar. Thanks.
