Everything is so focused on loudness and bass. Those details you're talking about don't get noticed until the initial "wow" factor wears off.

@@NewStuffTV2 - So many people have been dumbed down to think that music is all about rumbling bass which they think should eclipse and even overwhelm the mids and the highs. That, and music isn't good unless it's cranked at such a loud volume, often times making the other details and components of music sound like crap. Keep in mind when people blast these speakers so loud, many times the music quality is compromised and you're not hearing all the details and elements of the song.
Per @ipaddleYOass's comment above - It's not even that people ignore so many details of music. Ignoring means that you were once aware of something and you choose not to acknowledge or pay attention to it anymore. These days many people don't ignore, many people are just friggin' clueless and oblivious to good sound quality and good output that makes all the vocals, instruments and components of a song sound clear, and represents all the aspects of music, not just the bass.
The ULT Field 7 sure sound better plus with having a Mic input for karaoke and lights on the radiators is Amazing!

It better at $150 more MSRP. Seriously though if Sony ditches that hard plastic bullshit their line of speakers would be the best in almost every category. But right now hard to recommend unless you don't travel much. A handle is nice until you drop it and the hard plastic scratches or breaks.
@@Bound4Earth A handle is putting it gently... Even on the promotional material they have a dude carrying it over his shoulder like Hercules... They really should have included a strap with it like the JBL. You gotta go and buy your own strap.
@@Klongu_Da_Bongu It is the main reason I never considered Anker anything. It looks like the cheap plastic they made it out of. Drop it once and it will crack and look even worse. They look like toys for children. At least Sony has good design aesthetics. I have dropped my Xtreme 2/3 a lot with no sign of damage from upwards of 5 feet on hard floors and even concrete.
Just odd to see a portable speaker in this age where durability is not even considered in design. Maybe the solution will be a skin or add on case, because I don't see Sony shifting anytime soon.

I've been using my boombox 2 for years, I still love it. Might have to switch to sony next time i need a new one...
It's the mic input with gain control for me, one minor detail that increases the use cases beyond just music listening.

The sony has the clearer sounding mid range, the clarity on instruments are more pronounced than the jbl
This means that if you are listening to rock , classical music, country, funk and pop , the sony will sound better,
If you listen to rap, r&b , hip hop , the jbl will sound better.
Jbl has the deeper bass, for me personally bass alone is not the most important thing , i actually have a party box 200 and i use that for more bass heavy music
I have an xg500 currently, but if i was looking for a new portable speaker, i would pick the sony ult field 7 over the jbl
You get more features, you can plug in a mic for karaoke, you can plug in a guitar if you have an electric guitar, you have rgb lights that can be customized
The ult field 7 is a swiss army knife for portable speakers , you cant do any of the above with the jbl, you can just play music.
I i had to cough up 500$ its the sony i am getting even though i wont pay 500$ for either of these in reality, i would wait for a sale.

(280 vs 400 GBP)
In this case... JBL has better value.
But with similar price (at other markets) Sony looks like more versatile one.

Came to best buy today to buy boombox 3 and for no reason tried Sony. Didn't even know it's Sony. Never heard absolutely nothing about UTL . After that spent one hour to go back and forth from Sony to JBL . So..was going to buy JBL boombox 3 but bought Sony ULT 7.

But for now my hat's off to Sony great job on the sound improvements and the extra features really make it a more useful and versatile speaker, just like it was with the XG500.

Some time before, I only loved JBL, they sound(ed) good, until I get to hear and test the Sony speakers, one for one, they sound better than JBL, I'm working at the largest Media Shop in Netherlands, everyday I'm testing the Sony speakers against the JBL, man those Sony's has some good SQ, now I'm all over for Sony now!!! JBL is still good for bass, but they lack the SQ, Sony has better sound in everyway!

Both speakers are great and have their own distinctive goals. I have the BB3. I like the sony design and extra bells and whistles. I've owned many Sony speakers. I'm down to my Sony XB43, and think it's fantastic. But all Sony Bluetooth speakers do this thing that downgrades the sound to conserve battery power once it gets below 70%. It is noticeable. I don't know if this is still a feature with sonys new line-up. I've owned many JBL Bluetooth speakers and never detected any variation on sound regardless of battery %. Speaker data doesn't mean one speaker will necessarily sound better than another. But knowing stuff like frequency response can help determine which speaker might be more ideal for certain types of music. My current favorite speaker is the Devialet Mania. The one thing that caused me to consider this pricey little beast was its frequency response that is particularly attractive for the type of low bass music I enjoy. But, I digress...
JBL seems to approach sound from more physical means. Sony utilizes more DSP methods. Both are bad as speakers. Both play louder than you'll typically need. Just my thoughts while watching this review.

Great speakers, both sound really good. Sony managed to keep up with the JBL. One question, I heard the review said the JBL has more bass which is no surprise at all, but did you have the ULT 2 mode on the Sony to compare the full bass capacity?

I am seriously interested in the Sony here. I was liking the JBL, but I think Sony after watching and listening to a few reviews. It has a touch less bass than the JBL, but the Sony just sounds a little cleaner at full volume.
I can wait it out till Cyber Weekend or however long it will be. Hope I can get a sweet speaker for $300 or less at a normal $500 dollar price tag.

It doesn't struggle at all. It's actually very consistent. The BB3 actually reduces the bass at higher volume.

@pedrongoka1759 EXACTLY. These are things you cannot hear over youtube. The real life experience is way better. This is what makes it the better speaker. You literally get everything. Low bass (JBL is a little lower) clean non-aggressive highs and a wide sound stage that makes you feel like you have more speakers.
The Sony sounds more immersive, airy, pronounced and it seems like I hear more bass. The JBL sound smoother. Man I literally just ordered the JBL an hour ago. I’m starting to regret it because man that Sony sounds amazing.

You get more rumble and the low end goes deeper on BB3, but it sounds like super V shaped. Sony sounds more balanced and easy to listen i think. I feel like the sub bass can get too much when indoors with the BB3. I prefer the Sony, but their pricing is always not the best. Let’s compare the ULT field 7 with the BB4.

I had again the same feeling like when I was in the mall with intention to buy that JBL (and ended up didn't buying it), JBL sounds like subwoofer in a metal box placed somewhere in the corner, it has very local metallic-like soud (by feeling). Sony in the other hand has got something they know how to do since Sony Audio Micsosystem was a thing - the wide space and neutrality feeling of the sound.

Isn't there an ULT button on the Sony for that extra bass you are missing? Thought that was the whole point of the ULT line...
No one said the bass is missing. It's all present and it sounds very balanced. The BB3 just focuses on the lower end because of the dedicated subwoofer. Overall, the Field 7 just sounds better with an added sound stage.

The X20 does no sound as good as the BB3 and the Field 7 sounds better than the BB3. I understand the costs, but more of less doesn't give you better... it just gives you more of less
@@NewStuffTV2 I’ll say this much, for indoor use due to its bass performance at volumes of 60% or less, the Sony is a good option.
For the same price or less, 2 WKING paired together in stereo is the better option for outdoor usage, for one main reason,VOLUME. It’s one of the most critical elements of a speaker that must be mentioned, especially when you’re outdoors.
A speaker tends to lose some of its sound characteristics, once introduced to an outdoor or outside environment. Volume & or loudness is very critical in this aspect.

Unless you intend on playing the Ult 7 at above 40% ,do not bother.
I attempted to use mine as a background music source while doing chores in the kitchen and it was lifeless and flat. It also sounded weird and echoed when the radio presenter spoke. Like if he was in the bathroom.
However when I turned the volume above 40%, it turned into a totally different beast and the sound quality was everything you expected.
I got a JBL Boombox 3 and I love it, I really want to get the pair or another Boombox 3 to PartuBoost them but that song ULT Field 7, man, that thing blasted! The trebles are far clear than the Boombox 3, congrats and thanks for doing this comparison for us!

The shoulder strap that you are endorsing doesn't work. It uses velcro fabric to attach around the handles of the Sony but the grip is not strong enough to support the weight of the Sony Ult Field 7

I got a W-KING 20 and boombox 3 and find myself using the wking more than the bb3 because it charges faster with usb-c also it has a beefy plastic hande with strap attachments if you like that, bass is almost the same
I had an xg 500, good speaker but the boombox has a much clearer sound. the treble of the xg is muffled, a real shame. Apparently Sony has finally released a serious competitor.

Thanks for watching! I think it's a really useful feature if you're planning on using the speaker in-house a lot. For me, I don't use that speaker in the house, so the feature is irrelevant.

Definitely JBL as a music producer it has a low middle curve... The Sony seems to have too much mids. And Mids get muddy with alot of songs. So for sound quality I'd choose the JBL. Me I'm more quality of Loudness.
