The panda is adorbs! If I'm travelling there is ALWAYS a pair of vanilla socks. Usually also a shawl and a more complicated sock pattern. And ALWAYS an extra skein of sock yarn wound up and ready to go for emergencies. There may be more, depending on length of trip and what projects I'm currently working on but the listed things are non-negotiable. Another great podcast, y'all!
My travel projects are usually socks or shawls. I have traveled with a sweater, but it was in its beginning stages, so still doable. This summer, I am taking socks and a couple of tanks. Socks are a gift, and the tanks are for me and my daughter.
Baby blanket, I just went to Montreal recently and was trying to narrow down what to knit on the plane, morning, and night. I decided on the Katia Mimosa baby blanket cotton yarn project which 3/4 finished. It was lightweight and don’t require a lot of thinking. I had two other WIPs that was more complicated. Since it was vacation, I want to relax and not stress. Thanks for sharing, happy knitting. Have an amazing vacation in France, Haley. Never been, would love to go one of these days hopefully! ❤❤
My favorite thing I ever traveled with was a Skeinanigan blanket that I made (like Hayley) in sections then crocheted together. I used bamboo needles so they never got taken away.
A truly enjoyable episode!! Nightshift has been in my queue forever. Love Kathleen’s Lazy Nightshift. Maybe that’s the route I will take to finally check it off my list. While I rarely overpack my clothes, shoes and toiletries, I always overpack my knitting projects especially if traveling my car. My all time car travel knit is the body of a top down in the round sweater. I have been known to plan a road trip just to get it done! Obviously I’m not the driver. I also include socks and various other accessory projects. I focus on mindless knits that I tend to set aside when I’m home.
I love this weeks question. I have knit socks all over the world. Like Amanda i used to travel for work (17 years) and socks will never let you down. :)
I travel a lot for work and I always take my Temperature square (making one granny a month), my battenburg blanket box of minis, and whatever my current main project is. It's nice because my husband also works at the same company and will drive. So I can take as much as I want! Oh, and you'd better bet I always look up "yarn shops near me"! Love spending time with you ladies!
Love watching you all and seeing your projects. You inspire me! The last thing I knitted while traveling was the Andrea Mowry’s Free to Fade shawl. That was my first time taking a larger project. In the past, I’ve always worked on dishcloths when traveling. Maybe I’ll get up the courage to try knitting socks! It seems like such a great “on the go” project! Safe travels and happy knitting to all of you!
Length of travel definitely decides how many projects I’m tempted to bring…my projects are sweaters or tops of some variety, easiest if I’ve already made it past sleeve split and am just working round and round in the body…minimum number of projects for any trip is 3 projects, but I’ve brought up to 8 for a two week trip! 😊
When I travel I like to bring two projects, typically small projects like socks, a hat, or blanket squares. I might bring a fingering or lace weight shawl if its in the beginning stages and only consists of garter or stockinette stitch
My husband and I do cycling trips….packing our tent, sleeping bags, clothes and some food….so space is very limited…..BUT…..I never leave home without a pair of socks on the needles….I really enjoy your podcast….very inspiring
Hi girls, thanks for another great episode! When we travel, like to work on mini granny squares Christmas stockings (for gifts)and also bring a long knit scarf project! Happy Knitting!
I usually bring at least two projects on vacation, one easy pattern to knit on the beach and a more involved pattern for the house. I also look up a local knitting store and visit it with the intention of buying a local yarn. 😊
My favorite travel project is socks. I can take a very small supplies pack and maybe 2-3 options for sock yarn (depending on how long the trip is). Then, if I get through all of those, I can try to find sock yarn wherever I am. Kind of like a travel memento and something to wind down at night.
Depending on how long I'm going for determines the size of my travel projects. For quick trips of a few days I'll bring a couple different socks but for longer trips I take a bigger project and a sock. For really mini trips (like the grocery store) I bring a sock 😊 safe travels everyone!!!
I recently went to the UK and I brought along a Musselburgh hat! I made mine in fingering weight and it only took 1-or less balls of yarn - plus, plenty of knitting time. I used interchangeable needles so i only needed to bring 1 extra cord for magic loop when it came to either casting on or off (increases and decreases)! All round great project to have with you on the go! (:
Thank you for this nice podcast and keeping me company, while I was putting in an afterthought heel into my socks, that I knitted during my trip to Berlin last week. For me the perfect train knitting project are self striping Regia socks and sometimes the Pairfect socks from Regia. I‘m just knitting in the round and get some pretty vanilla socks. A bonus is that the yarn is affordable, in case anything would get lost. I‘m sending best wishes from Germany.
I always bring way too many projects when I travel, but I don’t care, it makes me happy. I bring whatever I am working on and cotton for charity dish cloths.
It all depends if I travel by car or by plane. By car, I bring anything and every thing, by plane, I always have a pair of socks and a sweater. These are with me on the plane but in my suitcase, I have all my needles and some back up plan in case I find some nice yarn on the way. Like for in Portugal a few weeks ago. ✈
Last summer I was on a hat kick, so I traveled with those. The summer before was socks all the way. But as most of my travel is by car, I travel with whatever I am working on, as there is room. This summer it will probably be a summer sweater, a shawl, and some socks.
I am actually traveling today to California with my family and I have one sock of a pair of vanilla socks to knit and the body of my totally tank top which is all stockinette. I love vanilla socks on 9” circulars for travel knitting 🧦❤️
When I travel I usually knit dishcloths or baby blankets as they are mindless knitting and don't take up much space. They are they kind of knitting that I can pick up and put down multiple times if necessary....
I always take socks. My favorite pattern is L Lineman’s socks on a plane. I have a full sock drawer. Most of my family is knitworthy, too……😀 love your podcast. Great ideas, and you make me giggle. Hugs, Kathleen. (Nit Donald).
Typically I take socks. My last trip was a combination flight and road trip, I worked on the pressed flower cowl and a dress for my 2 y/o grand daughter.
I like to bring my knitting to make the diagonal dishcloth and I will bring my sock knitting projects! I am new to knitting socks and I love that it’s small enough to take the sock knitting with me! May we all enjoy being able to knit or crochet wherever we may go!
For my last vacation, I brought a single skein cowl project with me called the Honey Cowl. I just started learning socks, so those will come on the next trip!
I go to project when I am flying (or I am otherwise limited in luggage) is an afterthought everything sock on circular needles. Perfectly portable and I don't have to think about any measurements or changes for the length of the trip.
When I travel near home (car travel), I bring whatever I’m working on except blankets - tees, socks, market bags…When I’m traveling far away (airplane travel), I bring lots of socks and a Musselburgh.
My family and I are going on a 6 weeks trip driving across Canada. I'm taking 9 projects plus a few skeins of sock yarn. I have 2 sweaters, 4 cowls, a shawl, fingerless mitts, and a tank top. I'm sure I'll do some shopping along the way as well.
I’m and very fortunate to have a 2nd home 1 and 1/2 hours away so I travel every weekend usually. I take all of my WIPS but only work on a couple depending on our plans.
I usually bring a crochet project such as a baby blanket since it is easier for me in the car and train to stop in the middle of the row. For planes I will bring a knitting project in light colors in case the lighting is poor.
My travel knitting is almost always socks. We are having a family vacation in Nags Head in August. Not sure how many I will finish but I will take at least 3. There are 2 yarn shops in the Outer Banks. You know I will be checking them out.
Travel Projects - my husband always teases me that I spend more time packing my travel projects than I do packing my clothes! I usually take a few - just in case I don’t feel like working on one, or I finish one, or whatever! 😂
I do not travelmuch but I do take knitting to appointments. As it is not an issue of size or space so I take projects that are in a stockinette stage so that it is easy to pick up and put down. I am a monogamous knitter but always have a sock on the needles for a little mindless knitting when I need it.
I bring too many projects! This year, I’m trying to keep the number of projects to 3. Always an easy project for car knitting, a larger project for down times, and always a sock.
I just came back from a month long trip. I took yarn for a toque (beanie) and then bought more yarn for another toque. So I came back with two toques and I finished an ear warmer for a friend. So to answer the question. My take along project is generally a toque. (I was too busy having fun to get too much done on this trip)
I love traveling with sock knitting. Easy to bring and I can usually finish a pair on vacation so I feel like I've accomplished something while vacationing ❤
My travel project depends on my plans and how much focused time I’ll have. For busy trips where I pick up and put down the project, a vanilla sock with speckled or self striping yarn. For a longer trip where I have hours to knit, I try to bring a top down pullover where I can go round and round! Safe travels to you all!
Hi Haley, I’m thinking of doing the Jelly Roll blanket. I like the idea of doing the strips and hooking them together with a crochet hook. Will you be showing us how you do that? I think your idea using a crochet hook will be a lot easier for me than to try knitting them together. Or it’s simple enough that could explain it to us time you do a podcast with your mom.
I pack and travel with whatever my current qips are if I am still working on my 2 shawls they will be packed or may have a baby blanket cast on by then (for husband's coworker). Also like to have a hat on the needles for my travel.
I have a boneyard shawl that I only seem to pick up when I travel, so it’s taking forever to knit. I just started knitting socks which may replace shawls as travel knitting. Maybe that will help my poor boneyard to get finished or maybe I need to accept that shawl may never be finished.
Hi!!! How would I go about crocheting those jelly roll panels? Just the normal like what you would do to steek? Love the new sock yarn and allll the projects. Cute project on Steve Jobs too. Love catching up with everyone. All the best, kimberly
Hi Kimberly! I believe Haley is planning to hold each pair of panels together (wrong sides together) and then single crochet them together through the edges -- we'll have her show us when she's got a couple of panels to join. 😊
Hi Angelina - we've decided not to do Sock Bingo this year - we hope everyone is enjoying the other sock KALs like the Crazy Sock Lady's and KnittyNatty's coming up in a couple of weeks!
I only crochet but love your video. Just subscribed. When I travel I like to take small projects like amigurumi that fit in a smaller bag. Please tell me your name is patterned after Chronicles of Narnia, because our family loves those, both books and movies!
Hi ladies, can you give me more info on the “lazy” Nightshift kits? I’ve never made one so I’m a bit confused as to what makes it lazy. Can you tell me if you still have kits or what yarn you used? Thanks so much!
Hi there - thanks for the question. We call them lazy because they use only 2 balls of yarn, so there is no need to be changing between 6 or more different skeins of yarn as the pattern calls for. The kit include one skein of Haunui (an undyed Noro yarn, in the color of the sheep it comes from) and a skein of Viola (same weight yarn from Noro, but with a color changing progression). We have some kits put together in the store, but you can also "make your own" by selecting one skein of Hanui and one of Viola. We're also happy to suggest combos for you. You can email us at hello@shopyarnia.com with some of your favorite shades and we'll send you some pairings to consider! ~K🧶
Did Hailey (sorry if I mispelled) say she's going to Branson? We go there several times a year and have had Silver Dollar Season tickets for years. I hope she has a great time and if she needs any recommendations, I'm happy to assist. :)

Traveling with socks is so easy. I always take at least two projects that I don’t have to concentrate too much. Haley have a wonderful time in France.
Socks are mr favorite travel project!!!!! My last trip I loved flying with a blanket I was knitting. I loved it kept me warm on the plane.

Hi girls, thanks for another great episode!
When we travel, like to work on mini granny squares Christmas stockings (for gifts)and also bring a long knit scarf project!
Happy Knitting!
My fav travel project is a special single skein fingering weight boomerang shawl, where I just knit garter or stockinette until I run out of yarn.
I usually bring at least two projects on vacation, one easy pattern to knit on the beach and a more involved pattern for the house. I also look up a local knitting store and visit it with the intention of buying a local yarn. 😊

Hats & vanilla socks are my go to travel knitting!😊
My longest trips are to see my family, so not much gets knitted, but socks are always what I take so I can listen and talk while I knit.
Love that!
I like to take a vanilla sock and a sweater to finish with stocking stitch. Love your variety of knits
Sock knitting, Musselburough hat, and half + half triangle wrap would be great traveling knits.
For sure hats. I just got back and took a Oslo hat to work on and it maybe my favorite travel knit.

Lovely ladies, so talented, thanks for sharing 😻🐦
You're so welcome!
My go to travel knitting is socks, I always have one in my bag or car.
But a Sophje Shawl also served me well on a recent trip also!
The Sophie Shawl has become my "take everywhere" project recently! ~K🧶
When I travel I usually knit dishcloths or baby blankets as they are mindless knitting and don't take up much space. They are they kind of knitting that I can pick up and put down multiple times if necessary....

Thanks for sharing!!
We just got home from a trip and I took my standard sock project. We had 17 hours each direction in our vehicle so I got lots of knitting done.
Typically I take socks. My last trip was a combination flight and road trip, I worked on the pressed flower cowl and a dress for my 2 y/o grand daughter.
Granny Squares. I'm bringing my squares while we do our little travels. Quick, easy, no need to keep up with a pattern.
I like to bring my knitting to make the diagonal dishcloth and I will bring my sock knitting projects! I am new to knitting socks and I love that it’s small enough to take the sock knitting with me! May we all enjoy being able to knit or crochet wherever we may go!
I always bring sock. Usually one for the plane and another “just in case” sock in my luggage.
For my last vacation, I brought a single skein cowl project with me called the Honey Cowl. I just started learning socks, so those will come on the next trip!
The Honey Cowl is a great one - it was designed by a friend and business associate of ours! 🧡🧶🧡

When I travel I tend to pack 3 sock projects. I usually finish 2 on the trip then start the last one on the way home.
We hope you have a wonderful and productive trip!
We have a driving trip to Maine from Michigan this fall. Already planning the sock projects I will take. And the yarn stores to visit.
Lovely episode. I’m late watching this. As always I love all the knits!🌸💕
Thank you! 😊
Always travel with one and one just in case! Always a pair of socks. usually a shawl.
Good plan!
Socks! Compact, lightweight and engaging.❤
Not traveling this summer. My daughter is getting married so busy with that but when I do travel, I bring socks or a hat. 😊
I like to travel with socks and sometimes I keep cotton dishcloths on needles for travel.
I’m and very fortunate to have a 2nd home 1 and 1/2 hours away so I travel every weekend usually. I take all of my WIPS but only work on a couple depending on our plans.

Great! Support those LYSes!! 🧡🧡🧡
My travel go to are a few. Garments, socks, & shawls.
Travel project?- always socks! 🙂
great podcast-looking forward coming to your shop in July.
Wonderful! Give us a heads up when you're planning to be there - would love to meet you!
Travel Projects - my husband always teases me that I spend more time packing my travel projects than I do packing my clothes! I usually take a few - just in case I don’t feel like working on one, or I finish one, or whatever! 😂
I have had the same comment from my husband! 😂🧶🧡

I used to travel with a shawl project but have switched to knitting socks.
My favorite favorite travel project is a shawl
I always have socks , mitts or hats when I’m traveling .
I bring too many projects! This year, I’m trying to keep the number of projects to 3. Always an easy project for car knitting, a larger project for down times, and always a sock.
Travel project - Sophie Shawl. Completed a few and don’t have to pay a lot of attention. And I would tuck a sock project in somewhere.
I always have socks on the needles when I am traveling.
Hats Hats hats...small and easy! I will cast on before leaving, especially if I do a tubular cast on...which is always 😂
Love that tubular cast on! But yes, better not to do on the move!
I just came back from a month long trip. I took yarn for a toque (beanie) and then bought more yarn for another toque. So I came back with two toques and I finished an ear warmer for a friend. Socks, I would bring two skeins of sock yarn to do two pair of socks. Easy to pack, no brain strain, one vanilla one patterned for variety
I take socks and ,a cowl or hat… another fun episode…
Hi Haley, I’m thinking of doing the Jelly Roll blanket. I like the idea of doing the strips and hooking them together with a crochet hook. Will you be showing us how you do that? I think your idea using a crochet hook will be a lot easier for me than to try knitting them together. Or it’s simple enough that could explain it to us time you do a podcast with your mom.
Hi Sabrina - We will either have Haley do a separate demo video when she's back, or describe it in detail on a future podcast! ~K🧶

@@ChroniclesofYarnia Thank you!!!!!
Sounds good!!!
Happy travels everyone. I just started knitting socks! So, I will be bringing sock knitting wherever I go. Karin Patience
I’m taking a Musselburgh hat, Anker’s cardigan, a baby sweater and an extra skein for an Oslo hat ( just in case)
Current travel project is Incan Spice lace cowl with Incan Spice lace navy.
Will Sock Bingo be happing this year?
Hi Angelina - we've decided not to do Sock Bingo this year - we hope everyone is enjoying the other sock KALs like the Crazy Sock Lady's and KnittyNatty's coming up in a couple of weeks!
I like to bring easy knitting with me when I travel
Love your podcast and no I am not a swatcher and have paid the price for that a few times
I only crochet but love your video. Just subscribed. When I travel I like to take small projects like amigurumi that fit in a smaller bag. Please tell me your name is patterned after Chronicles of Narnia, because our family loves those, both books and movies!
Hi there - Yes, Narnia was part of the inspiration for our shop name and TH-cam channel name!
Thanks so much, she's in France - she was saying it with a kind of nasal French accent! 😂 🧡
I take my socks and a one ball project
socks… always…sometimes fingerless mitts , like socks….
Socks. I have 5 kids, there is no room for anything else
🧶💕🧶💕🧶💕
