  • how to make virgin coconut oil in your home, coconut oil for thyroid, pcos, skin and hair care. urukku velichenna/ventha velichenna, homemade coconut oil.
    Notes: select mature coconuts. It is best to make in small quantities. Keep the oil away from sunlight.
    If you do not have the cookware I used, then the next best option would be an iron kadai/pan or a steel but make sure the kadai/pan is heavy bottomed.
    Once you switch off the flame, the coconut residue will again cook and color will change, so it is best to remove the oil with a ladle as soon as you turn off the heat. If making in large quantities keep in coloured bottle preferably red colour bottle.
    you can use this oil in salads, curries, turmeric tea etc. Do check the video links listed below to understand more about the health benefits of coconut.

      Yes I agree orignal Virgin oil we should not heat the cocknet. It must dry in sunlight for an period of time then it will automatically form it's oil. This is natural process it tools more time.

      Coconut oil is made from sun-dried coconut or kopra. When the coconut is fresh and not sun-dried it is called virgin coconut oil. It can be made using cold pressed or heat processed methods.
      Coconut oil is used for cooking n as hair oil commonly while virgin coconut oil heat processed has been used by keralites for newborns and kids since ages. For newborn oil massage, while heating ixora flowers are also added.

    Tried making this today.. It took about 2hours to evaporate all water and 1hour to turn it brown finally I can see some oil used 4 big coconut got like 30ml of oil... Instead we can refrigerate the milk and then use the cream part for extraction that will save time and gas

    This process seems time consuming. Instead freezing the milk will separate the water leaving a think layer of the cream. This cream can be heated and oil separates from that. This way a lot of time and gas will be saved.

    • @twix3799
      @twix3799 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

The upper layer will be thick and u can break it and make the coconut oil and the lower layer will be liquid. I made this for my kids to apply on their whole body. This is very easy as it will save a lot time. Do try and see.

    Not by heating bcz heating doesn't make your virgin coconut oil
    So for making let your coconut milk settle in fridge overnight and you'll find thick coat of cream on the top of the container extract that thick cream ,Pat dry that & rest for some time in room temperature so that your cream melted & that's your virgin coconut oil ❤

      @Ibn Al Araby- hi there,
      its a bit late to comment but i came across your query on this comment section of this video only recently.
      Well, i don't know about all the merits and demerits but here is one demerit: the smell and aroma is less as well as the medicinal properties( but it is more than enough to meet the requirements).
      And one merit is it's preservability increases significantly cold press coconut oil will degrade three to four times faster than the method shown here and any microbial activity( bacterial, fungal or viral) is completely obliterated . All you need to do is keep it in a close seal air tight container and it will last for years.

    • @skinnyrecipes
      @skinnyrecipes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Tharini Kl I have tried making it in mud/ clay pan but the coconut residue sticks to the pan and another thing is once the coconut milk is heated it just spills out, had to turn of the heat a couple of times. I hve tried in iron kadai and it is okay! I make this oil often and the best is the uruli I showed in the video. I keep it on low flame on one burner while I do my other cooking and related chores. Hope this helps :)

    Virgin coconut oil is NEVER heated.
    What you're doing is not extracting VIRGIN coconut oil.
    Rather, with your process, you are extracting REFINED oil.

Only because time consuming also the coconut sold in the UK I believe is transported from abroad and have been exposed to radiation so probably they have lost all the goodness. I'm only presuming. But it was wonderful to watch and learn. One day will never know I'd love to try making coconut oil. Thank you so much for your videos. Very educational very helpful. Thank you. God bless you 😘

      +Maria Jardim thanks so much for being here! Its not that difficult to make at home in small quantities, I keep it simmering on one stove, while I cook other things! You can use an iron pan/skillet instead. Or simply use more fresh coconut in your meals, just do not buy coconut flour/chips etc (coconut flour is actually defatted). You can make coconut milk at home and use them in your oats porridge etc. Much Love!

    I am having so many coconuts in my garden, unfortunately the trees are to high already to reach them and here in Thailand, nobody can climp trees anymore like it was absolutely normal 30 years ago. Nowadays they are having monkey going up and throwing the nuts down or they charge you about 30.-US per tree which is resiculous in my opinion, so i leave the nuts until they fall mostly but then they are perfect for making this oil right?
    I should try it, usually we are drinking the nuts only when they are young

    It will be more easier if we put the cream which WL float on top If keep in fridge for half an hour.otherwise time and gas consuming.
    In olden days the fuel was free bcos it was in home itself like coconut shell and husk and other woods.thanks for showing all things in a traditional way like iron kadai otturuli for which now everybody substitute with toxic nonstick kadai.
    Keep ur tradition so that somebody who likes to follow these type useful hints and also traditional which are somewhat in malayalam we say(Any am ninnu poyi).
