The pill bugs are called Isopods. I'd recommend reading up on them because they actually are good for your soil and only eat decaying matter. They typically hate citrus and love the animal poop and love decaying leaves.
Hi, isopod breeder here. Isopods will 100% eat live plants. They actually have a preference for proteins. Young tender plants are at most risk. The orange peels will keep them away long enough for plants to become established. Then they’ll move back in eating insect eggs and detritus.
I do not know where the fallacy that they only eat decaying matter came from. I have seen them eating small sprouts and strawberries. Particularly when I have an egregious infestation.
Tbh I think you made the best decision for your herd this year. Im so glad you ended up going with Duchess over Kitty. As much of a great doeling as she was, I felt Duchess had the qualities you were looking for most in the improvement in your herd :D
@@Weedemandreap you need a goat measuring rope/tape so you can compare sizes, it would also help you to know the numbers for stuff like the utters and what not
While they do eat decaying plants, in high numbers they eat live plants as well and it’s been a problem for us in past years. I am not trying to kill them, just deter them from my plants while young :) Here’s an article on why they can be harmful in high numbers: www.planetnatural.com/pest-problem-solver/lawn-pests/sowbug-pillbug-control/
Wow congrats Duchess the new chamoise on the herd replacing Prim and hoping a decent udder we will see in near future. Thank you weed em and reap for giving us always the enjoyable and inspiring content that we keep watching time to time. God bless us all💕🙏
Chamoise Patterned Duchess Gonna Fill The Place of Prim and The Beloved Penny ( ❤😢🕊 R.i.p ) , Hopefully Duchess Is The Perfect Goat..Wait Wait Scratch That MORE THEN PERFECT
Can we have an updated farm tour? Your second farm tour was your first video that I ever watched way back in 2018. It’s one of my favorite videos of yours. Since then, you’ve made a lot of upgrades on your farm. 😊❤
The shorter new haircut really suits you Danelle! I think you made the right decision with duchess, she's so wide and long bodied! lots of potential with her. I live In the uk, and this channel has been my comfort channel for around 4 1/2 years! Funnily enough your voice is so soothing!
I'm so in love with Twila, she's so pretty. And so is Duchess - I can't help but smile to see she's staying! I love Wynona's udder, to be honest. Maybe it's just the softness of it that gets me, but it's really nice looking to me. I know there will be a Reba daughter eventually, and I can't wait for her!! Happy with little Wednesday, too, River is a gorgeous little doe. And I'm really curious about Tilly's connections to the past goats, I guess I missed that part of her for all these years!
Did I hear you call one of your baby goats Twila? And did you name her after me? If you did, I am so honored my goodness. I’ve been watching you guys for years now and that’s just a real treat if you did name the goat after me. If not, that’s OK I’m gonna still keep watching you.💜😊🐐
I mix coffee grounds in with the soil with each flower I plant. I don’t’t drink coffee anymore, but I just brew a few pots and I end up with all the grounds I need!🌷🪻🌻🌾
Yes, I was stoked to see you uploaded! I agree with you on Winona's screams and yells🐐🤯. It would be unnerving if you had things to do and it wasn't yet milking time. And yes Danelle she is super smart and knows just when to scream😂Bless your heart❤
While it is hard to see all the cute babies go off to new homes, you have put so much thought and effort into improving your herd that it will be very exciting to see how your choices work out! Plus, adorable little Wednesday is my fav so far this year, so I look forward to watching her develop. Such a cutie!
I am really enjoying your new editing style. It makes watching your videos that much more fun. And thank you for sharing some of your garden secrets. I learn so much from you. ❤
So much great baby goat content! Fun gardening fact, the stems of tomato plants do indeed grow more roots all along them if you bury them deep, but they dont form from the little hairs.
the fuzzy things are tricomes and do not turn into roots, the bumps are what actually turn into roots on tomato plants. same results just a little off on specifics.
When i plant my tomatoes, I put some crushed/powdered egg shells from my neighbor's free-range chickens and cinnamon powder in the whole before I plant and then sprinkle some more cinnamon on top of soil to keep bugs of all kinds away. My tomatoes grow huge and abundant each year
You know I have wondered about your neighbors especially when they been kind of loud in the background. 😕 So it is good to hear that it's not really a problem. And that most are easy going as far as sound.😄 Good luck on getting them weaned off of the grain.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
My dream is to someday purchase one baby from your farm and one from Blue Cactus Dairy Goats 🥰 We don’t have the space/ finances to have goats yet but someday it’ll happen and I’ll literally cry for days when it does 😭
Those babies are so stinking cute! I'm reliving my dairy past through you and believe me I miss it so much. It's hard work and very tiring to hand milk four high producers by hand twice a day and hold down a full time job and raise three growing boys. It was totally worth it though and if I could go back I'd do it all again. Try to decide which babies to keep and which ones to let go is no easy task either. Always wanting to improve the genetics in the herd hard decisions have to be made.
When the train was there a train outside my house was also going through so I had double trains. I lived how all the goats ran to you when they heard the train. I just started watching you this year and I’m addicted. Love you guys!
So cute. These little darlings are adorable. I am so sorry you are going through this grain feeding problem. Maybe you can slowly reduce what they get. Oh, Smudge is so cute. Tomatoes should be delicious. Love watching those babies run and hop around.❤️❤️ thank you for showing us the ones you will keep. A nice choice and a hard one. Congrats on your descision, Danielle❤️🥰👍
Just found your site. Fun! You do great content. I have 3 bottle babies. 2 are grown now but have a new baby. All pets. The Pygmy 1 year old is very vocal. If anything is moved or changed, she voices her opinion (MAAAAAAA!) for 2 days. Our Pygmy/Nigerian is very quiet (Mmmmmm!). Our little baby (Pygmy) is very vocal and LOUD! Squeals like a pig. She's talking back to my phone as your video plays. Great job!!!! Thank you!
Willow will always be my favourite but the love I have for Daphne…. If I was in the US I would absolutely be on that adoption list to have one of her babies.
I’m glad you’re keeping Kevin, too! I told you I’d have an awful time deciding who stays and who goes, so I admire you for being able to do that. I love all of your goats. But, Luna is still my favorite! ❤️🐐
From what I know the isopods or rolly pollys aerate the soil and eat decaying matter in the soil, leaving them alone can help prevent root rot in your plants or problems like fungus under the roots!
@@Weedemandreap thank you! Also I'm 15 and I've been watching yalls small farm since I was about 5 and I'm honored that you responded and with such awesome information! Thank you!! 🐐 ❤️
It is nice of you to keep educating the viewers! I have been involved in 4 H ( animals ) for 34 years, and I know several who will feed grain to their goats. Especially corn, it makes me sick for the goats, alpacas, and rabbits. Cause they are suffering from the grain ( fat ) that they put on. Thank you so much! There are a few that I would grow out to see the potential. However, I understand that you can not keep that many.
From what I understand roly pollies (and isopod) eat dead or decaying plants..I have them in my bioactive terrarium for my leopard gecko as a clean up crew
I know that you hear them every day and learn the difference between the goats' sounds, but I couldn't tell much of a difference LOL. Also your impression of her was way off too 😂 she was way more "warbley" than screamy.
I am excited to see if cricket is an improvement c: time will tell. If Twila is anything like her half-sister she will have a beautiful utter! And i am excited to see how duchess and Wednesday look when the get older.
You're lucky, the noises my mini nubian Bertha produces are on par with a full sized dairy cow. The second she knows I'm awake she starts bellowing 😵💫🫠
@Weedemandreap Thank you 🫡 I've been wondering how it works. While I don't have or plan to have goats, I've learned a lot about their body conformation, traits to look for and what to avoid, and just generally being entertained , but your guys' channel is my favorite and I'm always excited for each week's upload. I hope you all are doing well. 🩷
I'm glad you're keeping Kevin!
😂😂😂 at first i was like “wait, when did they name a goat after Kevin?” Then i realized 😭
😅 glad he’s still with us!
If you ever want to get rid of Kevin I am sure some ladies on here will take him.😊
Yeah he's a keeper👍🏼😄
No doubt about it, Kevin is the best!

The way the babies ran when the train blew the horn was the cutest!! “Abort! Abort! Danger detected!!”
The grin that hit my face when I saw you had uploaded was crazy! this account brings me so much joy, and the goats are so sweet!
Same I sometimes scream when they post ❤
The pill bugs are called Isopods. I'd recommend reading up on them because they actually are good for your soil and only eat decaying matter. They typically hate citrus and love the animal poop and love decaying leaves.
Well said
A lot of people use them in reptile habitats for that reason.. they help maintain the enclosures by eating poop and other stuff

Isopods, pill bugs, or roly polies are usually considered friends not foes, they break down decaying plant matter and help improve soil.

We call them slaters or woodlouse in New Zealand. They will likely be going after your mulch.
Woodlouse here in UK too x
The Taylor swift thing 🤣 I have a goat who made the most perfect noise. It was just like the “AHHH” in the song. It’s PERFECT!
The subtle flirt over Kevin's guns was adorable 😂😂

You should try feeding them black sunflower seeds instead of grain! It’s l lot less addicting but they still love it! 😊
We mix the grain and seeds, but I should try just the seeds and see how they do:)
Not a bad idea

This was the funniest video ever!!😂I loved your goat scream impressions! Priceless!!
