      Is there a way to get administrative access to firefox. It seems there are more complicated safe guards to get administrative access. It's been a long time since I ran MX. So I can't be too particular, with my problems.
      Also curious about proton and Vulcan.

    When configuring your machine, I highly recommend to use snapshot and put the *iso on a bootable USB. So you will be able to recover with exact the settings as you wish. BIG TIME SAVER!!!!!

    • @noismsorschisms3739
      @noismsorschisms3739 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Try creating an MX-Snapshot (EXCLUDE as much of your home directories as you can to keep your snapshot size low - easily done in the gui), then use MX-Live-USB-Maker and use a USB SSD instead of a flash drive. Settings should be "full-featured..." and for Personal use. Then boot from the SSD via USB (2/3 - whatever) on your PC -or- any PC (32 vs 64 matters!) . When booting, choose "Persist All" and "Save". You will have everything included in the snapshot and you WILL BE AMAZED at the speed EVEN on USB 2.0. If you have an Nvidia card, you will need to include "xorg=nvidia" on the boot screen following the "splash...." options. NO OTHER DISTRO CAN DO THIS! After logging in, you could use the "Install" icon to install it to the hard drive.

    • @noismsorschisms3739

      @marthale7 But can you boot from your cloned drive on another PC or even a Mac?

    • @noismsorschisms3739
      @noismsorschisms3739 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @marthale7 The beauty of having your tailored system on a usb flash drive is the ability to run it live on any PC, Mac whose BIOS will let you boot from usb and optionally let you install it to a hard drive on that device. I've had great luck with this. On a Mac, well not so much, but I haven't given up on this - I think I did something wrong. Bottom line, you can take your MX-linux customized USB, and execute it on any conforming PC (remember about 32-bit vs. 64-bit).

    It's a pretty good tutorial. I had forgotten about dockbarx. One thing you didn't mention which I think is totally awesome after you make all the changes to the install is to do a "snapshot" and make your own modified version. Burn it to a USB stick. Now you can install to other machines and all the changes are already done... or share with others... it's the bomb :-)

    This video gave me 2 new things to do. I also install "Gnome Software Center", uninstall "Libre office" and install Softmaker FreeOffice instead, I uninstall the games, uninstall Flash, uninstall Thunderbird, as well as several other things.
    I install Nemo file manager (I use Thunar AND Nemo equally as much), Brave browser, Chromium browser, Tor browser, I install SMPlayer (I know I'm weird, I like that ugly retro look!)
    I uninstall and install a few more programs, make a few more tweaks, setup a 2nd panel at the top of my screen with icons to programs and hard drives I use often, as well as to folders with programs I use often.
    I absolutely LOVE how MX Linux makes all of this so simple to do! No other distro I've tried allows me the kinds of freedoms and abilities to do a variety of things as MX Linux does!

      Thanks for the excellent write up. Just curious why freeoffice over libreoffice

    • @mikestrickland2755
      @mikestrickland2755 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@damianranko9740 Thanks for the compliment. I try to be as clear as I can. :)
      FreeOffice loads way faster than Libre, it's faster in general (to me anyway), it's smaller, and it looks & feels a lot like MS Office right out of the box. I'm a new Linux user (switched in April of this year), and I used "FreeOffice" in Windows for years. So of course, there is the "familiarity" factor as well. It's available in the "MX Package Installer" under "Office."
      The one thing that annoys me about FreeOffice in Linux though, is that I'm forced to install "PlanMaker" and "Presentations" and I never use them. I just want "TextMaker." But even though this is the case, the whole suite is still smaller than Libre's suite, and possibly even Libre's word processor. But I could be totally wrong on that.
      If I try to uninstall the other 2 programs, TextMaker will not work. It's all or nothing. >:(

    • @mikestrickland2755
      @mikestrickland2755 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@oliverstone631 Open "Synaptic Package Manager" and type nemo, it should be the 1st on the list. To the right it should say "File manager and graphical shell for Cinnamon." Right click on it and select "Mark for installation" next, from the top menu bar click "Settings" scroll down to "Preferences" left click, now in this window check the box that says "Consider recommended packages as dependencies" Click "apply" then "Ok" next, on the menu bar on the top click the icon that says "Apply" and this should install nemo.
      If you are on Facebook, I recommend joining the MX Linux Facebook group. There are lots of nice & helpful people there.

    Great video, I'd already done the ones I wanted. Watched to see if you came up with something different. I kept one game for when I'm rendering a video. I reduced the grub screen to 2 seconds which speeds boot up, but leaves me a couple seconds to hit the keyboard IF I decided I want to later.
    I made the panel transparent so my wallpaper shows through. and the icons looks like they are floating now.
    Instead of theme choices, I click the individual items and make each icon special, for example I use the gargoyle-house for the whisker menu icon.
    I love a clean screen and just toggle conky so nothing is on the screen except the apps being run.
    Thanks for the suggestions and showing the howto on each one.

    Hello, great video again as usual, so thanks!
    I'm building my dream Linux game PC based on another video of yours, and I was wondering if you'd recommend MX Linux for gaming. If so, should I choose xfce, kde or fluxbox? If not, then which other Linux repo(s) would you recommend?
    I've been using Ubuntu for many years now and it seems pretty dependable. But if there is another Linux version out there specifically geared towards gaming which would increase my gaming pleasure, then of course I would like to use that one instead.

    Could you make a video about the Temps and Battery Life 9n various Linux Distros, please....
    In my experience the best temps and battery life is offered by Manjaro marginally followed by Ubuntu. All other distros(Zorin, LinuxMint, Pop-OS!, etc.) had atleast 10°C higher at idle. The worst was Deepin.
    P.S.: I've installed TLP in all the distros which didn't come pre-installed with it.

    I love MX Linux. Been using it since 19.1 I think. But I use it with the Cinnamon Desktop, installed from the MX Test Repo. Requires a Terminal that will run on Cinnamon, since XFCE Terminal won't, so I snatched up the plain old Gnome Terminal. Other than that, no problems. Linux Mint Cinnamon was the OS that finally pulled me permanently over to Linux a few years ago, so I just prefer Cinnamon.

    Not sure if anyone else ran into this issue but when I installed dockbarx my MX Updater and blueman-applet icons disappeared from the notifications section. Found that uninstalling ayatana-indicator-application resolved the issue.
    It will remove dockbarx but keeps dockbarx-common and xfce-dockbarx-plugin. Seems to still be working like I would expect and my notification icons are back.

      If you only want MX Linux, there is no need to uninstall any other OS. Just use the installer, and click the option to take over the whole sidk.
      If you want to keep Ubuntu and add MX Linux, boot MX Linux live, and look at the instructions in the User Manual.

      @@leadlearner6391 No; just tell the installer to use that partition. It will format it automatically.

      I think if you right click the internet logo next to the gem icon by the system clock, then press edit connections and press the plus button when you have wifi selected, you should be able to add a new connection.

    I just dumped MX and jumped on to Fedora.... MX had too many adjustments and it was too hard to find what I was looking for... Fedora with DNF, side loaded RPM's and the Gnome GUI's makes more sense.

      Hi you might have solved it already but the folder needs to be named .themes and not .theme or it wont show in the list of themes

    При установке MX Linux можно пропустить установку root-пароля и тогда пароль пользователя автоматически будет выступать в роли root, как это сделано в Ubuntu.

    CLIP board and pasting does not work very well with MX LINUX....I switched to Debian....not sure what the attraction to this OS is...

    • @chrispop99

      MX Linux uses Debian, and the developers have made no changes to the way copy/paste works, so I can't understand your comment.
