Brilliant!!! This has me and all my friends in the background!! Thanks for the memory. Glad we all bullied them into doing this, if a little guilty at the time.
I just discovered the song and I was thinking exactly the same. Apparently, good bands will always have that live version of a good song, that will be much better than album version.
i come back to this video every once in a while,,,,,,, never fails to blow me away! i love seeing their younger selves. thanks for uploading this, for real!
I hope they'll perform again on the sandy beach of Minehead, for the second Fans edition! Man, only have to wait for 3 weeks :) looking forward to it again!
@mMmmc0ffee Never edited. There is a similar video out there as recorded by the professionals with their boom and high-tech camera. Mine is from my piddly little digital still camera. Still, no chattering, just waves.
aww this is just magic...I wish they'd done this at The Fans Strike Back...down the beach again. a number of people at the front for the performance at said festival did ask...
It is recorded by Daniel Rossen (as an unreleased solo track), but you're right, it is an adaptation of a traditional American folk song that Grizzly Bear perform.
After a little looking into the origin of the song it looks like Odetta is the singer famous for it, but really it's a traditional American folk song, probably of British origin.
@jrs89 it's not pointless to dress however you want to, or enjoy the bands you want to, or hang around the people you want to. and i'd actually say this video shows that everyone really doesn't end up doing the same thing.
Hello from 2021 - still loving this video through lockdown etc. Beautiful.
This handheld "camera phone" video is perhaps the best ever recorded. I have watched it every year for the last 10 years. it continues holds up.

Almost... where is Jesus? Hmm..
What a great crowd! No-one was talking or anything!
Very rare and special.
Daniel has the voice of an honest troubadour. And Ed's voice is just heartbreakingly beautiful. Great contrast and great combination all at once.
A magical moment
Superb. Wonderful Harmonies.
I come back to this video all the time. Good to see my comment again. What a beautiful song and how time flies.

17 years ago?! I can’t be this old now
I just met these guys tonight. They are no doubt the sweetest and most humbling people to grace this earth.
One of my favorite songs. Makes me cry tears of awe and happiness
omg, why so talented? every time i listen to them makes me think that - yes, they are, by far, my favorite band.
I thought the album version of this was good but this is so so much better. Those harmonies are perfect
I just discovered the song and I was thinking exactly the same. Apparently, good bands will always have that live version of a good song, that will be much better than album version.
They bring some sort of peace to me in very unsettling times. ❤️
I saw Grizzly Bear at the Music Hall of Williamsburg a few weeks ago. That concert changed my life.
Wow-great stuff, wish I was there. This band are going to be massive in 09.
for real
This is what it's all about. Right here.
Holly shit, 16 years ago
They're just as good as the recorded version while singing live . Ugh, it's sad how the best singers are never noticed. The need more publicity!
Dana Focardi
More than 200k views. That's pretty good for this kind of band
@@timourluisier2858 they deserve millions of view.. they are one of best bands of our times.
They’ve grown quite a bit! 2 000 000 streams a month on spotify itself :)
I love the way the camera goes away by the end showing the beautiful view. Nice shot camera man
Destined to ride the tides of harmony and follow the currents of melody.

I feel that in a previous life, the story of this lyrics must have applied to me, because this sweet, damn song grips me every time.
My plan in life is to listen to this band until the end of time...
I'm obsessed. I've listened to it every day since I discovered it. Goregeous melody
i saw them in DC, and after seeing them i realize just how incredible their harmonies are.
This is such a gem.
i like your brother. he sings great!
I have came back to this year after year
Amazing. The best part is when they all start harmonizing with eachother.
I hope they'll perform again on the sandy beach of Minehead, for the second Fans edition! Man, only have to wait for 3 weeks :) looking forward to it again!
