Im no writing expert, but I think it would be more interesting to give Gen an ark similiar to Tai lung. People already dislike her, So making her become more of a enemy and making Po go through something similiar to shifu would be interesting to see.
KFP3 is a strong contender. It's not a bad movie, it shows Po's character development as he learns to master chi. We also get the FURIOUS FIVE which for some reason KFP4 lacks. Maybe he should wake up after defeating Kai, with Master Oogway's staff on his bedside.

Imagine if Kung Fu Panda 4 opened with Po's Dream sequence from the first film but fully CGI, and it really is just him literally living his dream. But then again, something about that tavern scene in Kfp 4 already reminded me of it so I think it would be too late for Kfp 5 to open like that despite it potentially being a fun callback :/

Tbh I feel giving king fu and more is too much it like Toy Story all over again it was a perfect and happy ending BUT THEN A 4TH MOVIE HAVE TO COME AND BURN EVERYTHING WE LOVE TO THR GROUND
My solution to this is that the WHOLE 4th movie was just a dream, and that not only is Akwafina's character is just a background janitor that Po had a conversation with before going to sleep ala Wizard of Oz (making her almost completely erased in the 5th), but also making it a "sign" that his currently useless staff WILL BE able to do fantastic things once he masters it. I've also hoped that (regardless of if that first idea is implemented) Po basically acts as the Goku of the group, and that the movie focuses mostly on the Furious Five, so when the situation is about to be the end of them Po swoops in and kicks all the villains' asses, otherwise building up excitement by being absent throughout most of the fights.
On my community post I explained an idea I had for the 5th movie. Mainly because I’m worried for the 5th movie. I wouldn’t have ever done it if Kung fu panda 4 was good. Because I would’ve trusted to make something good. But I don’t really now. Especially from the behind the scene scenes.

I'm aware that it's ruined the magic of the franchise and I completely agree, I am also filled with feelings of disappointment with the direction the movie was taken in, but I like to judge KFP4 as a stand alone movie and I find it WAY more enjoyable like that. While it's bad in terms of a trilogy extension I think it's fine and at the very least enjoyable as a stand alone. And as a big KFP fan, I'm at peace with this as long as KFP5 isn't butchered. If it is, I retract my statement and wish to burn these cash grabs at once. 😂
Kung fu panda 5 can be saved if theres more depth to zhen and the chamelon. A crazy plot device could be zhen and the chamelon are villians AGAIN excepect they do something that we've never seen before. Ex: Kai stealing chi and shen with his cannons.

I thought you wanted to double-down on that instead of the opposite. In this case, I fully agree. For me, the lack of a new kind of threat is the main reason I'm pretty disappointed by the movie. Change as a motive was fine but weakly executed. If represented not only by the shape-shifting of the villain or passing in the torch, but also for example by a redemption arc (something that previous villains didn't get), an evolution of Kung Fu itself (like abolishing old traditions), a combination of both or something totally else entirely (since especially with change, you have a lot of freedom to choose a story), the movie could have been pretty awesome. All previous films managed to have their motive be central everywhere.

KFP 5 could be interesting, like the villain should be like smth we have never seen before, like, uh, a kangaroo? since they drown pets for fun and, well zhen would be a nice fit for the one drowned. 4 is an unlucky number in certain eastern countries. Kung Fu Panda 4 seems like it wants to be more simple but the villain and Zhens character development suffers from that. I hope they have someone new for Kung Fu Panda 5.
I can see this trilogy save itself if they, besides changing director, make Zhen just female Tai Lung. I mean, Po choosing one successor for a title that's granted by the universe is pretty much him repeating the same mistakes Shifu made.
Last Year Dreamworks made a WONDERUL Sequel for a Movie not many people cared about: Puss in Boots. But now when It comes to Sequels to Two of their Greatest IPs they Fumbled the bag, Put me on all the Drugs in the world and give me the mission to write a Kung fu Panda and Megamind Sequel? I Probably would have cooked better than they did 😭
This is just my personal opinion, but a way they could save the franchise with 5 is making Tai Lung the protagonist. Give him a redemption arc, atone for his past mistakes, become friends with Po, apologize to the people he hurt, give him and the Furious five moments of clarity, and BOOM! You got a great movie. Hell, for the ending, they could have a scene where Tai Lung is about to go back to the spirit realm, but Oogway tells him to stay with everyone coz he sees how much he cares for them.

All of this mess is because the damn director prioritized the comedy over the characters' development and story... The writers also dropped the ball because the same ones from KFP1-3 were involved in writing this movie. It's really saddening and frustrating as hell because they had a golden horn but they're left with a rope from it... As a KFP fan who grew up with these movies, it was a letdown. Dreamworks should understand the core audience that keeps the franchise alive are those adults who were kids as the films were released. They should target that audience. KFP 2 is considered the best movie of the KFP franchise because it had a very mature plot so adults could enjoy it and there is subtle humor added to it so kids would have fun. Probably that was the time when Dreamworks targeted a mature audience. Here are my other thoughts: It was such "Nothing Burger" movie, it was painful to watch. You may like such "nothing burger" as it has all the ingredients done well but it wouldn't impress you, you'd quickly forget about the restaurant it was sold a day after. You'd go to the restaurant that serves excellent burgers that will blow your mind with wonderful taste (KFP1, KFP2 and KFP3) What a waste of character development, themes, villains, and stakes. Everything was sacrificed for the sake of comedy to the point we could not even learn how the characters think or feel as they kept throwing quips or were used for comedy. So when the serious scene happened I felt absolutely nothing because it was. not. earned. How dare they reuse the scene with Tigress and Po in Gongmen prison and apply it between Po and Zhen. I laughed hard and got angry when I saw that. "You did not earn it at all" I didn't care about Zhen as she has no likeable qualities as a person and should not be a dragon warrior. Li and Ping subplot is a literal filler to replace Furious Five. They have no character development and they are only there for one Deus Ex Machina moment. I could feel the lack of Furious Five oh so much :( If they wanted to save money on voice actors they should have replaced them after 8 years. If they wanted to reduce characters, just send Tigress with Po and Zhen on that mission. Tigress would have balanced the comedy a lot. The movie needed that. We can blame the director Mike Mitchell for taking this franchise that way as the writers have been the same since KPF1. I do not want this director to work on KFP5. He had such control over the story the writers could not salvage it. It is so frustrating because fanfic writers could write a more engaging and mature story that respects the previous 3 movies and characters. The KFP franchise deserves better and tells mature stories that would move adults' hearts and minds, with a bit of comedy here and there. Calling KFP movies "kids' movies" is an insult to animation as a form of art to tell the story. I have no idea how they will address the problem of Zhen needing the character arc to bring her up to the skill of a Dragon Warrior or what they'd do with the Staff. The Staff should be destroyed or lose its power to scale back the power creep and increase the story's stakes (to not repeat the issues that Multiverse brought in Marvel).

I feel like something should be prioritized than others and I feel like comedy should be the last thing that should be prioritized, I almost went into an angry rant about this movie
7:14 when I first saw a trailer I was extremely hyped because I said the villains from the past three movies are returning oh man they can team up and try to take out po this is one aspect I haven’t seen people speak about too much because they were speaking about more of tai lung redemption arc. I wanted to see Li Shan fight lord shen because it just makes the most amount of sense. This is the same Peacock has caused pain. To li away his home he massacred his friends of family. He killed his wife and cause li to lose 20 years with Po due to this massacre separating them that would’ve been a fight. I would love to see because I know that would’ve been emotional fight, which would’ve been cool to see. After watching the movie, I just felt cheated like there are so many opportunities but yet they were very unutilized
Another thing I never didn’t like about this movie and this after I did more research after watching the movie it was the interview with the co Director I really do not like how she was sideline it sounded like she wanted to pay to both the first and second movie but that didn’t happen because of a certain someone. Actually the movie could’ve turned out worse even though it is the worst one hour of the trilogy. It would’ve been way worse. You know the Director was gonna add characters and I’m not joking. If you take the time you’ll find early concept art.
I’m a save you the trouble of what to expect any future kung fu panda project they’re all just gonna be comedies with no emotional value that gives them no soul, and I think they might even be more soulless after the robot releases I’m not so sure if you heard this news after they released the wild robot he’s gonna start outsourcing more of their movies so that means the animation will drastically change if kung fu panda is done by some other other studio, which is just sad to hear anyhow this was a great video. I’m just gonna leave you with this.

they can save the 5th movie by making the 4th one either a huge dream sequence or a story told by po which would make sence since from his prespective everything is overly comedic

KFP 5 could be interesting, like the villain should be like smth we have never seen before, like, uh, a kangaroo? since they drown pets for fun and, well zhen would be a nice fit for the one drowned. Or a panda or smth idk, i felt neutral with this movie (except for the stupid "they didnt wanna teach me cuz i was too small, mantis cough cough).
We should have had a tai lung redemption movie in 4 to build more conflict with the characters of the old movies

4 is an unlucky number in certain eastern countries. Kung Fu Panda 4 seems like it wants to be more simple but the villain and Zhens character development suffers from that. I hope they have someone new for Kung Fu Panda 5.

I can see this trilogy save itself if they, besides changing director, make Zhen just female Tai Lung. I mean, Po choosing one successor for a title that's granted by the universe is pretty much him repeating the same mistakes Shifu made.

This is just my personal opinion, but a way they could save the franchise with 5 is making Tai Lung the protagonist. Give him a redemption arc, atone for his past mistakes, become friends with Po, apologize to the people he hurt, give him and the Furious five moments of clarity, and BOOM! You got a great movie. Hell, for the ending, they could have a scene where Tai Lung is about to go back to the spirit realm, but Oogway tells him to stay with everyone coz he sees how much he cares for them.

This movie is just more Star Wars sequels.
All of this mess is because the damn director prioritized the comedy over the characters' development and story... The writers also dropped the ball because the same ones from KFP1-3 were involved in writing this movie. It's really saddening and frustrating as hell because they had a golden horn but they're left with a rope from it...
As a KFP fan who grew up with these movies, it was a letdown. Dreamworks should understand the core audience that keeps the franchise alive are those adults who were kids as the films were released. They should target that audience. KFP 2 is considered the best movie of the KFP franchise because it had a very mature plot so adults could enjoy it and there is subtle humor added to it so kids would have fun. Probably that was the time when Dreamworks targeted a mature audience.
Here are my other thoughts:
It was such "Nothing Burger" movie, it was painful to watch. You may like such "nothing burger" as it has all the ingredients done well but it wouldn't impress you, you'd quickly forget about the restaurant it was sold a day after. You'd go to the restaurant that serves excellent burgers that will blow your mind with wonderful taste (KFP1, KFP2 and KFP3)
What a waste of character development, themes, villains, and stakes. Everything was sacrificed for the sake of comedy to the point we could not even learn how the characters think or feel as they kept throwing quips or were used for comedy. So when the serious scene happened I felt absolutely nothing because it was. not. earned. How dare they reuse the scene with Tigress and Po in Gongmen prison and apply it between Po and Zhen. I laughed hard and got angry when I saw that. "You did not earn it at all" I didn't care about Zhen as she has no likeable qualities as a person and should not be a dragon warrior.
Li and Ping subplot is a literal filler to replace Furious Five. They have no character development and they are only there for one Deus Ex Machina moment. I could feel the lack of Furious Five oh so much :( If they wanted to save money on voice actors they should have replaced them after 8 years. If they wanted to reduce characters, just send Tigress with Po and Zhen on that mission. Tigress would have balanced the comedy a lot. The movie needed that.
We can blame the director Mike Mitchell for taking this franchise that way as the writers have been the same since KPF1. I do not want this director to work on KFP5. He had such control over the story the writers could not salvage it.
It is so frustrating because fanfic writers could write a more engaging and mature story that respects the previous 3 movies and characters.
The KFP franchise deserves better and tells mature stories that would move adults' hearts and minds, with a bit of comedy here and there. Calling KFP movies "kids' movies" is an insult to animation as a form of art to tell the story.
I have no idea how they will address the problem of Zhen needing the character arc to bring her up to the skill of a Dragon Warrior or what they'd do with the Staff. The Staff should be destroyed or lose its power to scale back the power creep and increase the story's stakes (to not repeat the issues that Multiverse brought in Marvel).
