Nice review. Love the Process that I rode last year and it sounds like Kona is stepping in the right direction. If they only made one carbon I would own it for sure!!! All around badass machine-
Dude, the carbon is coming out soon. Maybe around September?.. www.vitalmtb.com/photos/features/PIT-BITS-2014-Enduro-World-Series-Colorado-Freeride-Festival,7729/Matt-Slavens-Prototype-Kona-Process-153-Carbon,79474/sspomer,2
***** Pike 160MM pike/cane creek DBair shock........XTR brakes..xx1 drivetrain..........ibis 741 carbon wheels....... that would be my build for the carbon process... i better get saving :p
+Devin Ricchuito The Kona is great if you want to haul-butt downhill. Seriously, people race the thing downhill. If you want something that climbs quickly, then this probably isn't the bike you want. It WILL climb, but just don't try to race anyone uphill. haha.
AirNip The Process is getting really great reviews from all the bike press and they are saying it's one of the best bikes on the market. It has totally different geometry to the Abra Cadabra and a totally different linkage system. It will feel like a different bike.
How tall are you and what size do your ride? I'm looking at getting one and I'm 5'11 with a 32" inseam and fall right between medium and large. Gonna test ride one in a few months hopefully.
What size frame is the bike and how tall are you? im 5'8 and cant decide on large or medium. i demoed both and i could ride both with large being more roomy.
telephonic They do make carbon frames, just not on the process. They do a lot of Scandium, a aluminum and scandium alloy that makes the bike stronger, and lighter. To many it looks similar to carbon as in the front there are no welds. I have a scandium kona. It's great. I also have a carbon bike, and I actually like my scandium bike better.
Collecting Heroes Well Kona better hurry up and make a carbon 153...or i will have to decide between the evil 650B uprising or the mondraker dune carbon xr...i am getting a new bike in the next 12 months,,i remember seeing a kona carbon 153 in bikemagazine...that was a prototype at a EWS event in italy.
Yup, just got it a couple of days ago! The local bike shop put the DL components on the orange frame for me. Just took it for the first ride today.. REALLY liking it! I'll put a video together on DL version soon...
Nice. I am thinking of buying a demo from the path. I currently have a 2014 GT Force carbon that I love but need to cash out for wedding funds. Hoping this is not a downgrade. Hahaha...
I figured someone in these comments will know this question I just put a kona 143 on layaway it's my first really nice mountain bike. Does the back suspension have true lockout? Thanks in advance
No, it isn't "true" lockout. It's low speed compression damping. It's nearly a complete lockout, but you will feel a little movement. Best thing to do is demo the bike at your local bike shop if you'd like to get a feel for the bike.
Good review. Perfect with actual riding clips. I like the reviews that don't repeats the same crap written on an ad but actual feedback!

Really good review dude! Thanks for share
+xKITO182x Thanks! No Problemo!
I'd like to see a review of your DL model, planning to buy one in the next few weeks.
Okay, I'll put together a review of the 153DL on Saturday.

I am debating between this bike or a specialized Enduro or Stumpjumper...
Can't make a decision
+Devin Ricchuito Kona 153 hands down. You can't make a better choice. This bike is a beast. Go for it :)
+Devin Ricchuito Whatever bike you buy at this stage in the technology, you can't outride it! Unless you're one of the best riders on this planet.

definitely the kona is you don't like the price point also look at the giant reign 2
Hello, what is the difference between the suspension on that bike and a Kona Abra Cadabra Suspension Bike. Is there a difference in the performance ?

Collecting Heroes Thanks mate, got my self a Giant Reign 2 :D

I'm 5'11" and the large fits me. The large is roomy for me.
when are kona going to do carbon frames.
Who knows... but they're definitely testing one (see link below).

The specs on your GT look pretty nice.. I'm not sure the Kona would be a step up either.. Test ride it around the block at The Path? lol..
Radical bicycle.

What the “DL” mean?
