there are probably more movies where Cruise should have won and didn't that I can't remember off the top of my head, but in each of those movies I mentioned, he absolutely deserves to win. More than likely, they will do to him what they did with Newman and give it to him as a make-up for all the times they screwed him over when he's nearing the end of his career. With his ability to guarantee a film that brings in a minimum of $500 million from worldwide release, it makes it easier for insurance company to sign off an insurance policy on a film that stars Tom Cruise if it is being produced by Tom Cruise.
**In the history of The Academy Awards, every single actor or actress who was nominated for playing a character with a deformity, was a paraplegic, or a quadriplegic WON the Oscar except for Tom Cruise as Marine Ron Kovacs.
