ONe of Bob's beautiful, but grossly overlooked or forgotten melodies. Bob's sense of melody takes a back seat to his lyrics, image, mysteries, etc., but he's a very melodic writer.
Stunning. Top ten lost Dylan classics. Even with out-of-tune guitars, mumble-sung lyrics, and being chemical-fueled, this is a knockout song. And the descending change/chorus is a work of art in itself. "I threw it all away," indeed...
Now she's walking in the morning, Howlin' you come home I'll be on my way, so long, forlorn. You just can't go I will get it if I have to If I have to please come home Try, but I'll be dry, and I crave you If I haunt you back all day Carry my trouble, yes you satisfy my mind. I'll try to tell you, if I can't come in And I must stay true I'll be happy in the morning, I try my best, I will try to help you If I can, and I leave it too But I just can't find you away Won't some time away.
I read Robbie Robertson's book 'Testimony", and Dylan does come off as a nice guy. Very generous, before The Band had any success, when they were all living in Woodstock, and Robbie and his future wife were living together. Dylan (who was already making good money) sold his station wagon to Robbie for $1.00 so he and Dominque would not feel so stuck.
Yes! someone make a coment and it's true. In this footage Dylan starts to sound in his nasal country voice that shows in "Nashville Skyline". Great document.
Beautiful. He also did the hidden gem "What Kind Of Friend Is This." There's a great version of it on the channel "Swingin' Pig" (great channel if you like Dylan).
Love this song to bits - but I’ve been racking my brain for months now as to what the jaunty melody reminds me of. Finally I’ve come up with slight nods to these tunes: 1. ‘Trying To Get To You’ by Elvis Presley 2. ‘I’ve Been Working On The Railroad’ - US Traditional, and.. 3. ‘Show Me The Way To Go Home’ - Traditional UK Pub Song! 🤷♂️ 😂 Actually I reckon, with his comprehensive knowledge of historical folk songs, Bob would probably agree. 🤓
Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson, Robbie looks so young (he was about 23) and cool. I like Dylan's singing here better than in concerts, he voice is softer.
Hello there, thank you for posting this track. It is included inside Bob Dylan's Music Box (search for The Bob Dylan Project) Come and join us inside and listen to every song composed, recorded or performed by Bob Dylan, plus all the great covers streaming on TH-cam, Spotify, Deezer and SoundCloud.
great song. also, haha that last remark telling the cameraman off and the still of his mean face is so funny like a caricature i hope dylan was behind it
what is this video? is there a complete version? i've heard this track with a bit more, says something like "gotta play it twice as fast" and goes back into playing.... Dylan at his best, raw!
thehyperactivesloth I think his song is included on the bootleg series vol. 12 the cutting edge towards the last of the tracks on I'm guessing the last disc. There's more songs from this particular jam session too and they're all included as well
genius but somewhat unfinished ballad. this could have been beautiful in the studio with some discreet brushes on drums and a "4th time around" esque sound. i wish he made and album in between blonde on blonde and basement tapes/john wesley harding - with tell me momma and this song.
He probably would’ve if he hadn’t been caught by Warhol, there’s a conspiracy that he crashed his motorcycle on purpose to get himself out of the game, dunno if it’s true but it makes a lot of sense he was out of it during that time and his kids were busy being born at that point
How beautiful. I almost wish he would have adapted this voice to John Wesley Harding. It would have greatly improved a lot of the songs on there. Not to mention I wish HE RELEASED THIS DAMN SONG.
We don't even know if the cameraman stopped filming or if the uploader decided to cut there. But even if he stopped filming that doesn't have anything to do with laziness. Dylan started suggesting different ways to shoot so he possibly stopped the shot to save film while he discusses with Dylan what he wants from him.
Would love an update to these lyrics. I've been working on it but I am stuck in a few places. The Dylan Chords attempt is way off, I think. Anybody seriously interested in nailing these lyrics down, message me. I will share what I've got.
I think you misunderstood my comment. Someone has posted online the lyrics to this song. I believe that they are not the same lyrics that Mr. Gunn is singing in the video.
Simon from America's Got Talent as well as the people in the audience would have thrown him off the stage. Holly molly. Didn't anyone tell him that the guitar is out of tune?
Never heard him singing like this. That was beautiful.

Listen close to Bob's shading of his voice...very close to the jolt everyone got when 'Nashville Skyline' came out
Fantastic observation. I hear that...
+burman smith Yes definitely. Clearly testing out a new voice.
Actually bob sang like that in his school days and before he came to New York.
Now she's walking in the morning,
Howlin' you come home
I'll be on my way, so long, forlorn.
You just can't go
I will get it if I have to
If I have to please come home

But I just can't find you away
Won't some time away.
Karla Lu thanks for sharing the lyrics

Mickey Chaos just search the title and you mostly directed to dylanchords.info
i'm afraid this is quite inacurate, but a great basis
An unfathomable well of talent and understanding for the human condition.
Makes me realize once again how I fell in love with Bob Dylan's music so many years ago.
I love the end of this clip. He seems like a genuinely nice person!

I wish Bob was singing like that in front of me :)

amazingly amazing!

That's Robbie Robertson from the Band

From The basement tapes. Unfinished with Jim James and Mumford & Sons and others in awe and happily working on..

It's a clip from the documentary called Eat the Document that features his '66 tour.
thanks!

a beautiful song from Bob Dylan.
Great
"We have a bridge for this?"
I don't think so man."
Translation: We were fuuuuuucked when we put this song together.
Terrific song. Did Dylan write it?
He sure did. Never really recorded it in a studio though.
Ritchie Cross I never heard it but now I know Bob Dylan was Elston Gunn
bob was so cool back then ,a one off
Elston Gunn is one of Robert Zimmerman's alias'... in fact "Alias" is one of his alias' too...
That was the name he used when he hung out with Pat Garrett and that kid, Billy....
Eeee...YES...!!!
Technically his name is Bob Dylan he changed it legally
filmed in a hotel room in glasgow! 💙
1:37 Robby Robertson?

Is this from some documentary? Would really love to know the source
Yeah! It's from Eat the Document, which is a documentary about the '66 tour.
I can't figure out the strumming/Picking Bob does can someone please help me?
Neutronax he usually begins the pattern by hitting the base strings once and then hitting the others continually
Varun Mishra so a bit like in "The Times are a changin"? But Faster?

Who's the other musician?
Robbie Robertson, guitarist of The Band (formerly The Hawks) that Dylan toured with.
Thanks :D
the cameraman is very lazy, as soon as Bob told him to move around he shut off the camera.

What song does Robbie start humming at the end? I recognise it but can't place it.

Is that Robbie Robertson here?

What chords do you think it is?
I haven't analyzed these chords yet, but I know the lyrics are off. dylanchords.info/00_misc/on_a_rainy_afternoon.htm
I think you misunderstood my comment. Someone has posted online the lyrics to this song. I believe that they are not the same lyrics that Mr. Gunn is singing in the video.
