Theres a pc mod on nexusmods that increases shell lvl to 7 for all gunlances. If you're a person looking for the best damage between long and wide, don't bother waiting for a long 7 to drop. If you're like me and play both long and wide, you might have to wait til master rank Zorah/Kulve or maybe Alatreon

And WExploit, Wide is great for pokes so you do get some benefit from affinity (unless you're me most of the time doing charged shell combos to chainstun stuff)

The unique solution is to make 1 and only playstyle that merge everything, 5 bullets with wide damage shell and long damage charged shell, then you play the way you want.
I believe the video showed that you can also use the poke shell playstyle which is the wide playstyle, and with the raging brachy armor, pretty sure normal 7 is still up there in damage
This only happens because they made anything related to the "lance" part of gunlance a huge fucking hassle.. Having to tenderize twice, almost every monster is a walking shitzone that moves all over the place screwing up fullburst more often than not, the new stake, while amazing, also undermines any melee value since you just want to get the pew pews for the extra explosions, which also have a very stupid modifier for charged shells. So whenever a new upgrade comes we will just gravitate towards the best way to abuse the shells and wyrmstake blast with it. That being said, in this video, he's mostly using the charged shells in order to trip rathian so it's sorta like a hybrid right now between long and wide, which is a bit better than what we've had so far I guess
im a novice sheller but this whole setup looks good enough for me for fullburst too,I'm never gonna be a speedrunner so this "trash" for me is a high end option that is also flexible and fun

I use both charge blade and gun lance but I dont know why but I fell in love with gunlance, ever since I switch, yeah I never new how to controll the recoil but thanks to this video you earn my sub! 😁
Note of advice, in the set decos screen you can show us all the skills in a set. Doing that is much easier and if you show the deco layout we get all the info we need

Were you or anybody able to check if Safi GL can obtain Wide III? That way you can have that high element poke with Wide 7 damage? Or would that not be feasible as you wouldn't be able to slot in typical wide GL decos in conjuction with typical long decos? The damage from the pokes seem lack luster to the elemental Safi, but I guess what you're trying to point out is Raging brachy can be used as both Long/Wide. Thoughts CaoSlayer? I'm sure everyone wants to dissect the GL God's brain...

Okay so what i get from this is. When the monster is down. Poke,shell,poke,shell. When the monster is up u poke,(charged)shell,poke(charged)shell until its toppled again. Correct

I played them all and in my ideal gun lance world, monster world😬 if you will, long is safer than wide with more committed animations, wide is faster with more stagger and comparable if not higher dps By a small margin for being in the monsters face, and normal has the highest dps by a good margin due to big commitment. The reality? Long: my preferred even before iceborne because it’s an easy build, safe, the Wyrmblast has a very wide and forgiving hit zone all in all making it the easiest turn my brain off play. Wide: pretty good now but you have to have the stake on the right spot and you have to stay on that spot, monsters now are so fast and have shitzones, you have to weaken twice. Normal: all the problems wide has X 2 because of commitment and hardest to build. Summary any lance aspect sucks because shit moves to much and when you do hit it’s not the right spot, and you have to weaken twice for WEX and then impale my blast shot. Make it a one shot WEX goddammit, I’m literally impaling the monster and releasing an explosion.
I can't for the life of me figure out how CaoSlayer calculated 290 charge health damage (I'm assuming from Wide 7). As even in this own video, his charge shells with the Lightbreak GL deals damage in the 140s. After finally building and using the Lightbreaker myself for many hunts (getting similar numbers) and then going back to the Safi Long 6, I'm getting charge shell damage in the 180s in both hunts and the testing grounds. What am I missing in how CaoSlayer calculated the shell damage he referenced in the video?
So I guess I am just one of the few people who don't like the new move. It just seems like a tick so much setup or stunlock or trip locking to make use of the new wyrm stake blast. A lot of the other weapons that use the slinger ammo for their new moves don't have no where near the same amount of setup or maintenance. Not gonna lie. I was a swing lance kinda guy. I loved it. I still use it but I shell every so often. But for the most part I love the fact that the gunlance can seemingly both KO and severing off tails. I love my glorified giant club. But.. yeah I know the wyrm stake blast is " cool " and all. But.. eh.. I don't like it. The monsters move around entirely too damn much. Like Barioth.
honestly i would prefer using short burst with wide its what made love gun lance, if im gonna use charged shots i'd use the long shelling and i was a long shelling hater once without trying it.
I think I would want HB3 and Evade Extender on this set. I wonder if I can make it work with Furious Rajang legs since they come with HB3 and two lvl 4 slots. I saw the maths guys build and there's is basically a no-tenderize all attack build apart from guard 1. I like more mobility rather than guarding tbh. @@caoslayer Yeah that's why they mentioned the crit is enough so you don't need to tenderize for that purpose. My only problem with their set is the lack of HB3 (which can be dealt with by subbing attack) and no Evade Extender.
@@nuke2099 you dont understand. I mean even if clawing would boost your raw damage by 40%, you would lose damage because is a light weapon and requires 13 seconds to tenderize. You do more dps in those 13 seconds that whatever wounding gives you. Is an absolute trap. It is not 'is not required' it is 'avoid going for it'
Been playing gunlance myself far more recently and it's just now fantastic a really good armor set with artillery secret versus one that was not that great and not one but two wide level seven gunlances.playing the weapon I find myself much more of a burst playstyle player but there are not any level 7 normal gun lances there is SafijivaIf you make it one but other than that to my knowledge there is not any level seven shelling normal gunlance So gold rathian still remains Not that there's anything wrong with it and the poison damage is really nice for exhausting the monster so that they stay still and you get the free wyrm stake but I hope that there will soon be a level 7 normal GL.

Any controller gunlance users have any tips to avoid doing running stabs when you only want to do a quick jab? I'm falling in love with this weapon but I just keep screwing that bit up at the worst moments. About two weeks of Gunlance play, and I f&$*ing love this weapon, I'm already more confident with it against many of the fights I simply wouldn't attempt solo before even with my main damage dealer, tank shield spread HBG. I mained SnS for ages, but admittedly kinda sucked (my first solo of shrieking legiana took over 49 mins....) but in just a short time, I'm taking this Brachy GL against tempered ruiner nergi, kirin, and anything else. My next goal is a good Normal GL for a full burst build, as that playstyle seems really fun, but only shooting a Wides 3 shells is rather limp dicked compared to what a well built Normal can do, I'm thinking Stygian zig's.
I don't get why they'd do this. Btw I don't even main gl so biased aside, doesn't this defeat the purpose of long shell type to wide? they could have just added damage to pokes but to use a wide like a long just feels like they threw the concept of different shell types out the window and said screw it doesn't it?
Okay, but when can we get a Normal style gunlance play again? I mean, I'd really like to do more than push 2 buttons in alternating fashion and have the monster constantly tripped, crazy I know. :(
Elemental damage is better than raw on gunlance but since you cant make good use of safi extra skill I cant see a good way to use it. The weapon also lacks slots. The 15% affinity is no good when you can slot an expert+ plus a WE for 20% affinity
Happy to get wide back as a strong playstyle. Then Alatreon swoops in with a Long 7. That would be crazy. On another note, can you get Wide 7 on Safi awakening now?
So what's the most efficient way to play wide GL? Like the best combo to use? Normal shelling I use full burst combo, Long shelling I spam charged shots, so where does wide fit into the picture?
@@caoslayer Awesome choice of music aside, it's a good thing I didn't grind too long to get my preferred Safi Wide GL weapon. This Wide 7 GL seems more powerful than the Safi Wide 6 GL weapon, even if the latter has lots of useful utility skills, ie, Sharpness increase.
Just wondering if crit build for GL is any good for wide or normal because I got a build that’s (critical eye 7, agitator 7, artillery 5, guard 5, guard up, speed sharpening 3, protective polish, health boost 3, capacity boost , crit boost 3 and weakness exploit 3).
CaoSlayer ya I was test with crit eye/ crit boost build without agitator activated in the training area, poke shell was doing a little more damage than pure charge shelling but that stagger damage is insane and what I like about what you have created is you can do both poke shell or long or mix it up in quest.
CaoSlayer I tweaked it and made a 2.0 version a more aggressive build (the one above) I dropped focus because i feel like I can still get of the charge shells when I want the difference with it on isn’t too big and I’m mostly poke shelling with this build (which still staggers a lot and makes monster stand still to get in my charged shots) plus its a full crit build and works with normal shelling with safi
@@alexzander7143 Yes, attack skills have a lower impact on your total dps than the rest of weapons. Crit boost was just a 15%. Im farming brachy for the pants now to make the comparison

wide GL strikes again !! if i can remember on the old games, Normal for Burst, Long for WF, and Wide for Charged, thats how it should be.
Long and Wide switched perks in this game; Long is the shotgun, Wide is the regular shell/wyvern's fire type. A very easy thing to miss.

It might just be better to go for Art 5 at this point. Those shells are hitting for far more than optimized elemental pokes at this point.

Using clutch claw in gunlance, any kind is a big trap

How do you know how many staggers damage is needed for a monster to fall ? (Sorry, i'm french... je suis monté etc...)

Any controller gunlance users have any tips to avoid doing running stabs when you only want to do a quick jab? I'm falling in love with this weapon but I just keep screwing that bit up at the worst moments.
About two weeks of Gunlance play, and I f&$*ing love this weapon, I'm already more confident with it against many of the fights I simply wouldn't attempt solo before even with my main damage dealer, tank shield spread HBG. I mained SnS for ages, but admittedly kinda sucked (my first solo of shrieking legiana took over 49 mins....) but in just a short time, I'm taking this Brachy GL against tempered ruiner nergi, kirin, and anything else. My next goal is a good Normal GL for a full burst build, as that playstyle seems really fun, but only shooting a Wides 3 shells is rather limp dicked compared to what a well built Normal can do, I'm thinking Stygian zig's.

I don't get why they'd do this. Btw I don't even main gl so biased aside, doesn't this defeat the purpose of long shell type to wide? they could have just added damage to pokes but to use a wide like a long just feels like they threw the concept of different shell types out the window and said screw it doesn't it?
When do u usually do charged shelling on GL wide? I'm not used too using it too much except for long GL.
I use them on legs or heads that cause knockdowns.
When the monster is down I go for a wyrmstake to the head

Okay, but when can we get a Normal style gunlance play again? I mean, I'd really like to do more than push 2 buttons in alternating fashion and have the monster constantly tripped, crazy I know. :(
I mean, Normal 7 is there. Does the best full burst, can shell poke when not full bursting.
What do you think about rajang's wide 7? Rajang's gunlances are the best looking. It also has more sharpness and 15% affinity
Elemental damage is better than raw on gunlance but since you cant make good use of safi extra skill I cant see a good way to use it.
The weapon also lacks slots. The 15% affinity is no good when you can slot an expert+ plus a WE for 20% affinity

Happy to get wide back as a strong playstyle. Then Alatreon swoops in with a Long 7. That would be crazy.
On another note, can you get Wide 7 on Safi awakening now?

So what's the most efficient way to play wide GL? Like the best combo to use? Normal shelling I use full burst combo, Long shelling I spam charged shots, so where does wide fit into the picture?
The standard is poke shell
But if the monster has bad enough hitzones, changes to charged shells.
I'm going to work in the thresholds

@@caoslayer Awesome choice of music aside, it's a good thing I didn't grind too long to get my preferred Safi Wide GL weapon. This Wide 7 GL seems more powerful than the Safi Wide 6 GL weapon, even if the latter has lots of useful utility skills, ie, Sharpness increase.
I went with Furious Rajang legs and just went full ham with max agitator and atk
How is it a tie?! Long does 152 per charged shell has a capacity of 4 and better range while wide does 145 has 3 shells and shit range.
You are missing WSB explosion that is 106 in long and 140 in wide and the fact wide charged shells do 433 stagger vs 366 a 19% more

Just wondering if crit build for GL is any good for wide or normal because I got a build that’s (critical eye 7, agitator 7, artillery 5, guard 5, guard up, speed sharpening 3, protective polish, health boost 3, capacity boost , crit boost 3 and weakness exploit 3).
This afternoon I will grind some more reactors and start working in how much a real increase of damage gives each skill
CaoSlayer ya I was test with crit eye/ crit boost build without agitator activated in the training area, poke shell was doing a little more damage than pure charge shelling but that stagger damage is insane and what I like about what you have created is you can do both poke shell or long or mix it up in quest.
CaoSlayer I tweaked it and made a 2.0 version a more aggressive build (the one above) I dropped focus because i feel like I can still get of the charge shells when I want the difference with it on isn’t too big and I’m mostly poke shelling with this build (which still staggers a lot and makes monster stand still to get in my charged shots) plus its a full crit build and works with normal shelling with safi
@@alexzander7143 Yes, attack skills have a lower impact on your total dps than the rest of weapons. Crit boost was just a 15%.
