Yeah I don’t think anyone would mind if they dropped 4.0 with roughly a 500 player shard split between Pyro and Stanton.
No doubt...that would be 10x more than I had seen most of the time I have played per server.
That's the easiest part, the more they can push this tech the smoother it will be, and a sh*tload of NPCs working as intended.

I dont expect 2000 being regular but they definitely are trying to push the server as a test. It is a high goal so it is very promising.
Thanks for the update Phase!! Master Modes master modes master modes......thinking about this for the last couple of weeks I honestly think we have been missing the mark on what it was meant for. I believe that once Capital Ships and or Larger Ships get involved with battles in space you will see why things in MM is actually the way it was designed for. Balancing large, medium ship turrets with light, medium and heavy fighters and the ammo speeds for all of them including shields, armour....man what a mix of computations that has to be done in order to balance things out.
Someone finally gets it. It's both for large fleet battles and for creating more minute-to-minute gameplay with engineering. Plus, with MM, I found that when you get soft'd in atmosphere your ship is slow enough to survive the crash, which is something CIG has said they wanted for a while now.

CIG NEVER SAID 2000!!!. Someone in the community asked if they would push it to 2000 and CIG responded lets work on 1000 first, his clickbait thumbnail is what causes these misinformation problems in the community and he needs to stop it.

@@rooster1012if they can get 1000 players working smooth that would definitely be impressive. They would need to have more servers though. Server for each planet, server for each moon, server for open space. Thats how I see it.
2000 is huge. I don't expect them to have the game ever running with that many players but it's great to see them stress testing such a massive milestone to truely see the capability of the static server meshing. It's a great step in the right direction 🎉
Looking forward to CitizenCon. Last year I watched it live instead of just the YT posts and it was so much more fun. Really looking forward to hearing the music re-recorded with a live orchestra. It's mind-blowing that the music last year was "just a preview." MORE BAGPIPES!
We are going to miss the perfect launch SQ42 on ‘24. For the rest I have the same feeling about the SQ42 release. On the adjustment of ships speed and weapon controlled by pilots. We will see after 4.0 and everything is always subject to changes.

CIG will sell anything to make money. We were told that the F8 wasnt going to be available pre-SQ42, it was to be an optional reward if you met certain conditions on an in game (SQ42) mission. We see how that went

I think 6 servers / 500 between both systems would be great for 4.0, but only if they can maintain a locked 30 sFPS. Server performance uber alles.
CIG wants larger servers for cost effectiveness tho, so I get it.

2,000 players?! WOW. Yes it's a stress test, & not a live player target, but think about it! Elite Dangerous can only do 32 players for an entire GALAXY. This? 63 times that amount!
That number feels right for am MMO shard though. Though Star Citizen's play area is also still way smaller than they seemed to intend for now. Still curious to see how it goes.

2000 plays will be nuts, nobody is gunna be leaving the starting home locations lol, unless this test includes ATC fixes and more hanger gateways, especially XL Hanger gateways.
Beta testing is about pushing the limits.
Alpha testing is about trying to break everything.

Bigger player counts are sure necessary to go along with their plans to have (dozens??) of different planetary systems. So I'd say we are all glad CiG is already working on it!

@@jonath0n The 30 solar systems was a stretch goal ..then the next stretch goals were 40, 50 then 100 solar systems. Back when those stretch goals were made - a 'Solar system' was just going to be a skybox players load into like Arena Commander or Starfield. The 100 solar system count and landable planets where we can exit our ship and walk around in 1st person view - NONE of that was part of the original plan for SC.. they were all stretch goals.
Once the decided to physicalize the solar system(s) - they didnt reduce the solar system count - they went to work on the planet tech and server meshing tools to make large player counts and multiple physicalized star system with actual travel across space - instead of passing procedurally generated spheres by a stationary ship model to make it appear its moving foreward through space possible. (Like Starfield, Elite Dangerous, No Mans Sky, Everspace..etc)

I really hope server meshing shows better results soon.
If they're going to increase the share sizes they need to increase the randomness of the contracts.
Currently youre looking at a crash site on each planet - which never changes, or bunkers which never move.
The chances of two players overlapping are already to high as we battle over the 3 locations per system that have bad guys.

2k player is going to be a mad house haha. But I totally get the slowing down of ship acceleration. You can almost blackout when using the boost in a C2 in QT.
I'm guessing that "FM" could be "Flight Managment", "Flight Manager", "Flight Maneuvering" or something similar? ;-)

2000 is insane... Id have to see performance. Maybe dynamic i can see that happening. But not static... I guess we will find out and see.

I dont love the idea of slowing the ships down, but Im not going to judge it until I try it out. They must have a specific vision if they are ignoring such a vocal part of the community, so I'd like to see where it's going before joining in on the hate train
I hope CIG can find the PERFECT balance between player count and server performance, and launch 4.0 with that.

@Venhili yeah, same, high player count isn't going to magically make the game better, if anything, it'll make it worse
@@Venhili the last server test - most i was in that were 500 players and below - it was pegged to 30 server fps. Missions were not enabled so i flew down to a caterpillar wreck on the last test - and i had to get back on my ship and fight from the air
@@lights4bre890 I was in that test, it was pretty good, once they can get missions enabled for sm tests and we can really see the mesh under load with game logic, they can start to really fine tune things
when they can scale the areas down they can pump the numbers up higher
I want slower ships because it helps my style of gameplay, to give me the edge over other ships during combat..

Good. Going by the stats, there weren't many of them. This September has been CIG's best September yet in terms of revenue and engagement, so those people who complained did absolutely nothing in terms of sales or player counts.

200, 500, 5k wouldn't bother me. as long as its fluid. Right now in PU server has a hard time keeping up with 100 :(
hopefully all the codebase refactoring going on in 3.24.2 and 4.0 will go a long way toward improving long term general stability and meshing. fingers crossed. Expect immediate failure and eventual success maybe.
I'm thinking they want to do more than just pyro. Can do that with small numbers.

If they even have stable one thousand players, they imho will have to slow down expansions of that number so content is sufficient - it's one thing to have the player count it's another to keep them happy.
Furthermore without org tools in game that's a lot of disjointed players
2000 is a pretty high player count. They ain't playin around.

Im sure its just a test to see how some of the improvements they made fare under load - so single server and cranking up the count will give them a nice snapshot on what isolated server performance looks like.. we will get many more tests with different configurations as they dial in what will be the best to use for 4.0

2000 will break them; too many entities in the spawn areas, and no one server is prepared to handle more than 150 or so players at a time without cracking; server meshing probably won't help that much. Unless they start doing instanced zones, I expect that this high a population just won't work. They also need to find a way to increase the bandwidth of the rmq; even now, it seems like it's a bottleneck.

Right now I doubt you will get 2000 players on a server. Most servers I am on lately have between 35-50 people...
Why 2k? There are not like 1k players at the same time logged in the US servers...
