@AstronomicalJelly we have frequent black outs in my country, so wax candles are the norm. The reality of the rest of the world not using them as much is kinda shocking
@@AstronomicalJelly Depending on the length of time of the blackout, it might be best to use candles first and reserve your phone battery. To avoid the ink droplet from bleeding thru the pages, use a corner of a paper towel or tissue, dont dab it. Just gently hover the tissue corner above the ink and have the ink be absorbed. That will remove the lump of ink from bleeding through if u remove as much fluid as possible from the droplet
I’m a big fan of horror games and movies and I love the kind of horror that uses a lot of gore. I just like seeing the special effects used and what people are able to think up. Something like Brain Dead/Dead Alive is a good example. Idk just interesting to hear a different perspective
@@AdamSwyvern101 I love survival horror. Some of my favorites are Resident Evil games, Dead Space, The Last Of Us and Silent Hill. But by far my favorite game of all time is Bloodborne. Bloodborne has everything I like, beasts, witches, eldritch horrors, etc. It is perfection.
I used this kind of pen, (idk the name because english is not my native) and I love using it 'til this day! I love the kind of looks you can achive so. Hint to Emily: You have so many ink droplets because you dip the pen too deep in the ink, the little metal thing on the front that holds the ink can only hold so much. If you dip it half way or a little less then it should prevent such accidents. BTW, really glad you chose this medium and I hope you'll get better in the future!
Thats a good tip! In English, it's called a "dip pen" or a "fountain pen". Although fountain pen usually refers to pens with an internal ink reservoir.
I actually prefer using dip and fountain pens to ball points, I used to have very messy hand writing because I just couldn't control the shape with a modern pen, theres more friction and control with a nib. I got made fun of in class for being the only student with a dip pen, but my handwriting finally became legible
Tip from a comic artist: if you want to control the amount of ink you're using for brush or dip pen, use a shot glass. Use a dropper to put some ink in the glass, then you can better see how much ink you're putting on your nib or brush and use more or less as needed. If you dip straight into the ink bottle its too dark to properly see how much ink you're getting (and its easier to make a mess and get ink on your pen handle). Also keeping a paper towel and scrap paper to test your pen on really helps to gauge if you have too much ink or not before you start inking. I hope this helps. Keep up the great work you guys!

Trunk or treating has definitely taken a negative toll on trick or treating but it still exists in some neighborhoods
Yep, definitely depends. Like in the area where I live, there's not many kids around (even though a school is in walking distance) so we don't experience kids knocking on the doors during Halloween. Especially since it's usually freezing cold or pouring rain on that day 😅

_"Why did I scream?"_ It was an earthquake Emily! I think we can forgive you for screaming a little bit! xD (seriously though I'm glad you and Daidus are okay, we don't get earthquakes in my part of the world, so I cant imagine how scared you must feel whenever it happens)
I feel that maybe emily feels that the challenge is going bad for her because the topics tend to be out of her comfort zone, so i feel if she pushes herself a little more she will eventually appreciate more her inktober entries, which i love!
The inking tool Emily is using is called Crow Quill Pen or a Crow Quill Nib. They're usually meant for calligraphy and fine detailing. From my own admittedly limited experience the best way to prevent the ink droplet spills is to get in the habit of using a blotter, which can be as simple as scrap paper or a folded paper towel. You dip the pen, tap it a bit on the blotter to absorb the excess ink that might be on the tip, then start drawing. It's not always necessary, but it just takes a bunch of practice to get a feel for how much ink is too much--and even then it's easy to get it wrong.
Honestly, the drops from the pen are so FRUSTRATING, but usually, it's indicating that you've dipped to deep Tapping it in the well before use helps for the most part (these pens are sadist and is why investing in white ink saves A LOT of illustrations)
When I use a dip pen I usually tap the pen against the ink well so that it's not overloaded with ink, it's less likely to drip if you do that. When it drips you could still soak it up with a tissue so that it doesn't bleed through several pages.
I like the difference between how Emily and daidus do art. Emily's really character focus, loves having a person or an animal at the center while daidus is a bit more experimental and has a bunch of different styles. You never have an idea of what he's gonna draw
