Well the president was portrayed by wonder woman herself from the 70"s that's Lynda Carter. Her spinning around like supergirl did this episode was her signature move to change into her costume

The actors for Lucy, Max and Cat left the show due to the second season and the rest of the show being filmed in Vancouver instead of Los Angeles. And also Supergirl changed production from CBS to CW.

Lena Luthor started carrying the show on her back the minute she first appeared.
Oh the power Katie McGrath has

Mon-El! Love the banter between him and Kara; just hilarious; those one liners get me every time. Both he and Maggie are great additions this episode. Every time I see Chris Wood I can’t help but see Kai Parker first :P and yes; Lena is absolutely gorgeous. I knew her first from Merlin.

At this point in time, the show was moved from CBS (I think ) to the CW, so that may be the different feel you're referring too.

And filming moved from LA to Vancouver, which is why Callista Flockhart left.

I don’t know if you picked up on the other jet joke but it’s cause she played Wonder Woman who has the invisible jet 19:10

Just looking to see if anyone already comments on Lynda Carter being the 1970's Wonder Woman.

When they were defeating the fire girl when Kara circled around her fast that put the fire out because fire can’t light without oxygen and when she spun around fast she removed the oxygen from inside so the fire went out

Consider this a soft reboot. As others noted when it switched to CBS to CW the budget got slashed and it lost multiple major characters from season 1.

I think the reason why season 2 might feel different from season 1 is because this is when the CW fully got ownership of the show or whatever. Season 1 was produced by another network which name I don’t remember but after that it was handed over to the CW

      CBS

They were still technically owned by the same network. Vicom is the parent network of both CBS and CW. When Supergirl was first pitch the wanted it on the main network CBS after some new deals they wanted Supergirl to be with the other Arrowverse show on the CW. Season one of Supergirl was shot in California. To bring down cost of the show with the other shows it moved to being shot in Cananda just like the Aarow and The Flash.

That's also why the actress playing Cat Grant left the show. She refused to move away from California to shoot the show.
