- Capturing drives and preamps for the @M-VAVE Tank-G is a lot of fun. Sharing them is even more fun, so for the 4/20 Holidaze, I have 11 captures for you in the tradition of Pluck, Pluck, Give.
With some similar features as the Boss IR-2: preamp/cabinet simulation, options to add your own IR files, but no effects loop, the Tank-G is a worthy competitor. For half the price of an IR2, it's quite a nice option!!! Grab these and make your Tank-G AAAAAlmost as good as the IR-2.

The sound in this video sounds like the IR is not on. It's just a very harsh sounding guitar tone. The exact same tone I get with any of my amp in a box plugged in directly before adding the IR. I know this unit doesn't sound like that because another video's it actually sounds like an amplifier but in this it sounds like just the preamp with no IR.
@@yervah9647 I am using the very untweaked preamp files right from the capture. A lot of people ask about the IR on the video. I capture them without an ir, so you can use whichever one you would like.

I've been looking into one of these for a easy grab'n'go, but correct me if I'm wrong, but updating only works on a pc which is a bummer since I have a Mac. I guess I'm probably only able to edit presets on my phone unfortunately.
Yeah, you need to use a PC. I have been a Mac guy for a while and grabbed a cheap PC locally to do a bunch of things for this unit. I don't like windows, but it seems a lot of these types of pieces of gear only work well with it. You can edit with a mac, it works well for that. But you can't capture and I have only been able to update with my PC.

Am I doing anything wrong? Imported one of the captures via Bluetooth and couldn't edit the amp eq, gain, volume... Maybe it will work properly importing via pc? Can somebody tell me before I spend more time trying? Thanks in advance
Hey man, pc seems to be the most stable. And also, how are you importing them? The newest M-EFCS software will allow you to import “tweaked” files. I put a 9 band equalizer before the Tank G and it burnt up. Won't be doing that again.
@@RkicF8 oh man, did you have too much output from the EQ hitting the Tank? Or was it the battery issue from the V1 units?
@@DoubleDguitar It was an Ibanez pedal and I had it at half volume, but I run my marshall stack at 5. I use a Boss pedal power supply. I'm thinking I ran the amp too loud maybe, not really sure what happened.

You’re welcome! All are done without an IR, so you can use the IR slot in the Tank G. It gives you much more options. Check the links on the description for some really good free ones.

@@DoubleDguitar I haven’t even got my Tank G yet! I ordered one, based on your video first “ training” video as it seems like an absolute bargain, especially with the option to go battery powered. The stock sounds seem very over processed but with new options to swap out IRs and now tweakable preamps, this looks like a real winner! Thanks again for sharing your time, expertise - and those preamps!

FWIW the is hammer stuff is totally worth the tiny asking price, I’ve used their IR’s for years, and there is a noticeable quality difference.

You got it, check out 4:20 in the video, it has a quick run through on how I set the EQ points. Two videos ago I got a good bit more in depth. Check out the Wimpy to Pimpy one. But also, when you "SEND" it to the linked Tank, it allows you to tweak the EQ points, range of the controls and things like that before you "SAVE" it to the Tank. So I advise keeping the Tank set up with the IR slot on, and set to one you are familiar with. Then tune the EQ points by ear for what you like to hear. You can sweep through them change what you want, then hit the save and assign it to a preamp slot. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

@@gazjo85 hey man, if you mean when you download them and try them yourself, yes I didn’t capture a cabinet while doing the Boss or the Tonex captures so that you can use the Tank G’s IR slot to add your own. I have the one I used in the folder marked IR from the video in the link in the description.

Sorry im confused, so when youre profiling an analog pedal it seems you loose the ampsim so itll just be pedal -> cabsim,doesnt that affect the sound badly if youre running through FRFR or headphones?
You can use an analog drive pedal as a drive, and then later add the amp sim slot in the MCEFS software. I didn’t capture this pedal with the cabinets on, so you can use the Tank G IR slot in the editing software. When I use an frfr, and use a pedal as a preamp or any preamp, I use the cab sim to help get a real sounding rig. Hope this helps.
@@DoubleDguitar i think i get the gist of it, thank you so much, it gets confusing when you treat each buttons as an individual pedal box, but i cant just ignore the portability and small footprint these new gear offers, no more bulky amps and 10ft wide pedal boards that the wife accidentally steps on,
@@overcast2018 ok cool, and yeah. It can do a lot of things, so deciding how to set up patches can be confusing at first. I have my first four banks of patches as Preamp and IR style for direct recording, then the last 5 banks are drives with no IR, to use with an amp.
What is your diezel vh4 alternative from boss IR2? Thank you sir.
Hmm, I think the closest to that would be either the Brown setting or their High Gain, but with the gain at 50-60% and really find your mid range sweet spot. Then maybe have a comp or boost in front for optional extra focus. I really like the High Gain setting the most. I hope this helps and is what you are going for. The Rectifier one may get you a little closer, but the high end on it may not be quite there for a Diezel sound.
I looked on Amazon. The Tank G on Amazon is Purple yours is blue. Is the purple one different?
The purple one is from Playwell, should be the same thing. I got mine from Ali Express.

This is really terrible: just bought one, got amazing tones and in the first use in a rehearsal I learned it has a huge lag to change presets (impossible to use 2 tones in the same song, unless you change it in pauses of your playing). I'm really really sad about this latency problem.
Have you done the firmware update? It helped mine a lot. But agreed, my first video on this unit was mostly complaining that it wasn’t really ready for release. But they have updated it and many people say they don’t have any of the silence that happens when swapping. I generally use it as a core sound for a song, with a drive in front of it and another verb after for options.
While testinng your profiles did save them in tank g without a selected ir of yours? Looks like sincoann is not allowing me to save your am2s without selecting a ir ...
You can add the IR in the Tank G later in the MCEFS editor. I didn’t sample these with the Boss IR section on, so you can have more options.
Also, are you using their new v1.02 version? I wonder if that is the issue.

Why does the sound not change even if I click send and save?
Are you tweaking in the Ann app? You have to import it and then send it to the Tank G. Then tweak, you will only be able to really hit the top and bottom part of the eq for tweaking. Then save it to the Tank. Once it is saved, the controls will be available on the tank. Make sure you are in the manual mode, the knobs are all inactive on the patch mode.
i think yours is v1 tank g i think theres new v2 i dont know what are the differences but m vave recently increased the price of it
Yeah, this is a V1 for sure. I did the battery cover check and made sure it was safe. V2 has an M-Vave decal on the fron. Thanks for checking out the video, and bummer about the price raise.

How’s the noise. Seems in other video it’s v pronounced
It depends on the capture and preamp. The gate helps a lot, but it’s not perfect. I tried to keep it dialed back, for a more natural sound that didn’t choke out sustained notes. I will say that the noise floor seems a little better after this latest update.
